5 TIPS TO SET A MONTHLY BUDGET

Now that you’re in the midst of recovering from activities that involve the holidays, it’s time for us to get back on track from fitness, work mode and our finances! We know that when it comes to the past few weeks, we have probably splurged quite a bit on creating functions at our home to spend time with our friends, family and co-workers, purchasing gifts for a number of people in our lives, as well as buying things for ourselves to wear to a number of functions. Simply put, although these expenses are definitely work the experience, we have a fresh year ahead to make sure that we are making the plans that we need to in order to take care of our expenditures, plan for the future as well as the unexpected. We have 5 tips that we suggest to make sure that you are mindful of this and can do so in a comfortable way!

TIP 1: Get the Facts and Make a Plan Of Your Personal Expenses

In order to understand your finances, you need to be able to know what you make each month (depending on your job whether you freelance etc you may have multiple sources of income that flow through at various intervals), your monthly expenses, what you’re putting into long term savings (think retirement) and short term savings (think planning for a trip, wedding etc) and more. The best way to put all of this down is to download a monthly budget template to keep track of everything and to understand how you spend and save each month. This will ensure that you’re aware of your progress and what you need to do. It also allows you to adjust as needed!

TIP 2: If You’re Living with a Spouse of Significant Other Have a Financial Conversation

When it comes to taking care of your bills, you need to understand expenses that are solely your responsibility, your spouse/significant other or roommate and those that are shared. Conversations of this nature allows everyone to be on the same page of the financial plan and ensures that there are no surprises. This is a great time to talk about expenses for the household, insurance, car related expenditures, travel and more. These conversations will make talking about money easier to have and assist in making decisions that may include moving, changing jobs and more.

TIP 3: Create a Series of Goals That You Are Looking to Tackle

We all have goals within our life plan. Whether it’s getting a raise at a job, begin working on a side hustle that could eventually become a full-time job or purchasing a large expenditure. Listing these items will allow you to see what adjustments you may need to make in order to maintain those expenses that are ongoing versus these additional items. Once again, sharing these interests with those in your household are an essential for everyone to participate in making these goals happen or being aware of why money you’re earmarking for these areas are not available to the household at large.

TIP 4: Additional Funds

There are times throughout the year that you may receive a raise, a commission, a tax refund or others funds that are not regular. It’s easy to think about placing them on a splurge worthy gift; however, take a moment to think about whether this can be placed on a larger bill like a credit card or student loans which could make monthly payments smaller. Perhaps you can spend half on something that you want that’s not a necessity and leave the other portion to go towards expenses. Having an open conversation will allow you to make a decision that works for you and/or your household.

TIP 5: Evaluate Your Plan

We’re a huge believer that when you make a plan, you need to assess it every 3 months. Maybe you have had a shift in your salary or you have had a change in terms of additional/less obligations. A budget is meant to allow you to live comfortably and to take care of what you need to do each month. It is flexible in the sense that it changes based on your lifestyle. Imagine having the same monthly budget for the last 5 years, but not making allowances for factors that have changed. Every 3 months, check in with what your monthly budget is and what your goals are, if there is a change in the funds you have access to whether increased/decreased and what this means by all those that contribute to your household. This evaluation is easier to assess by using your monthly budget template as a way to track, adjust and to implement your strategy.

HOW TO TOW A WATER SKI BEHIND A BOAT: THE COMPLETE GUIDE

In recent years, the popularity of water skiing has been declining. In fact, only 3.57 million people participated in water skiing in 2017, while 2007 saw almost 6 million participates. 

If you've had the pleasure of enjoying water skiing before, you know that the sport is truly unique. There's nothing quite like waking up at dawn to get the opportunity to ski on water as still as glass. Or the exhilaration that comes with successfully barefooting for the first time. 

If you've never water skied before, you're truly missing out. But, it's not too late! 

Keep reading to learn how to tow a water skier behind the boat.

Have the Proper Equipment

The first step to being able to water ski is having all the necessary equipment. 

Most importantly, you'll need a boat that gets enough speed to ski behind. There are boats specifically made for skiing, but if you're a newbie, any speed boat can do. Then, you also need skis and a ski rope. 

From there, you'll need to look for ski bars for boats or a water skiing pole. These attach to your boat, and you use a ski pylon to attach the ski rope to the pole or bar. 

The most important piece of equipment to never forget is your life jacket. Even if you're an expert swimmer, every skier needs a life vest. 

If you're also interested in learning how to tow a tube behind a boat, much of the same equipment can be reused for this purpose. For example, you can easily use a ski pylon for tubing. Find out more about some of the other fun boating activities you can do with the right equipment. 

Make Sure There are Enough People

When packing your tubing boat for a water skiing trek, you also need to have at least three people. You need one driver, one skier, and one observer. 

The observer is the role that often gets overlooked, but it's arguably the most important role. As the observer, this person sits behind the driver and watches the skier. They are able to make sure the skier is still upright and relay any messages given from the skier via hand signals to the driver. 

Learn the Different Starts

Now that you have the right equipment and enough people, you're ready to hit the water. But how?

There are two main ways to start a water skiing attempt — a dock start and a deep water start. 

For a dock start, you stand on your skis with the rope in your hands on a dock or dry ground. The driver of the boat then speeds up the boat until you are dragged from the dock or dry ground onto the top of the water. From there, you're skiing! 

A deep water start is when you get into the water and put your skis on while floating. When you get positioned with the rope, the driver accelerates, and the momentum should bring you up out of the water and skiing. 

Become the Best Water Skier with a Little Practice 

With these tips, you are now ready to hit the water.

Start with getting the right necessary equipment and finding a few friends to ski with you. Then, learn the different starts. From there, the secret to becoming the best water skier is a lot of falling and getting back up again.

You might need to be diligent about contacting them several times over the next few weeks in order to make sure that your claim is being processed.

More often than not, we spend our days working to the very limit of our capabilities. The demands of being in the workforce are, as necessary as it may be, the biggest time constraint we have. Let’s say we take an eight hour day. Assuming we sleep anywhere from six to eight hours a night, work takes up almost a third of our lives, and more than half of our waking hours. That may as well be three-fifths of our perceived lifetime. With that in mind, it may be difficult figuring out what one would do during their free time. It’s almost a foreign concept that we pack with so many wants and goals. We often overlook the primary purpose of having free time: to rest and relax. So in the spirit of leisure and the enrichment of life, here are some of the best ways you can spend your free time at home. 

Learn About Wine!

Wine is a very layered and tiered subject. On one level, it’s all about enjoyment and celebration. It’s a drink. No more, and no less. On another level, it’s a massive industry that is focused on various markets and their perceived quality standard in each. And then you get to tasting and collecting. This is where wine turns into a blend of art and science. People spend their entire lives becoming high level sommeliers, cultured and experienced in every standard, the market offers, pitching the best in each sector. Now, you don’t have to be the best of the best, but gaining a bit of knowledge about wine is a great hobby to engage in. For starters, it’s fun. Wine tasting can’t be fun. To enjoy wine like the pros, you can pick a top rated wine aerator and pick up on the hints, flavors, and tannins that wine connoisseurs rave about. But in the end, it’s all about having fun. We all think we’ve done everything we can do and that the ends don't justify the means. Well, that’s simply not true. That’s a perceived truth, not an objective one. The truth is that fitness is whatever you want it to be. It’s just the movement. You can set your own home workout routine with just your body weight and some space. Some people choose yoga—a mentally taxing and static endurance-heavy practice, to get their workout in. Not the biggest calorie burner, but there is a spiritual angle that people use to stay motivated. Others choose high intensity interval training. Choose a full body movement (like squat jumps or burpees) and to it to maximum effort within a period of time. Set a time and rest, and repeat it again. Get it to a pace where you can do it for about a half hour. Or, you can do any combination of body weight workouts. The fitness world is your oyster. 

Start A Podcast!

If you’ve got a skill or a base of knowledge that you’re passionate about, why not start a blog or a podcast? You can curate the information you put out and become part of a global community of content providers. You can do purely audio or both audio and video. The basis behind it is that whatever you’re into, someone else is into it, too. There’s nothing new under the sun, only interesting takes from individuals. The wonderful part of putting it out in the world is finding out how many people share your passion. There is, of course, a bit of a downside. We’re still dealing with the internet, so there are trolls and negative people that can potentially sabotage your desire to keep going. Don’t let them. Remember, you’re out there potentially reaching a billion people. Someone will find your content and agree. Those are your people. Cater to them and reward them with more content. It’s that simple. The best part is, if you’ve got a smartphone, you can start from there. You don’t need any special equipment. And if you get a following, who knows, you might even be able to sell ad space and such. 

Free time is best spent either doing nothing or doing something to better yourself. The latter may take time, but it will never feel like work. You're doing it for you, not some boss. So when you get the chance to finally breathe from your job, choose one of the above options. You will not regret it.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR KOMODO ISLAND TRIP

Komodo Island is one of the best-kept secrets in Indonesia. If you love engaging in adventure-filled activities, Komodo Island should be in your bucket list. Here, you will get an opportunity to explore wonderful beaches, color-filled exotic corals, and lush hills. 

If you are considering embarking on a Labuan Bajo to Komodo trip, these tips will ease the planning process. 

Plan Your Route

Komodo Island is situated along the minor Sunda Islands and lies east from Bali and Java. You can access the island through Bali or Jakarta via an international flight. Once you are in either city, board a domestic flight from Labuan Bajo to Komodo, an airport known as Komodo Airport in Flores, which also happens to be the center for Komodo tours.

Flying from Jakarta to Labuan Bajo will take you approximately 2.5 hours. If you choose to fly from Bali, the trip will take one hour. A multiple-day boat trip from Lombok is also quite popular among backpackers. 

Pick the Best Time of the Year

While you can explore Komodo Island any time of the year, it’s advisable to understand what to expect at different times of the year. For instance, the land is calm and green between April and June. the sea is also clear during that time.

You are likely to spot different wildlife such as whale sharks, mantas, and sperm whales between September and November. Between July and August is high season. This means that many visitors will be flocking the Island.

For the best experience, try to avoid visiting during peak season. However, if you have to visit, book your accommodation areas early in advance. The monsoon season happens between January and February and many tours don’t operate then. 

Have an Itinerary

There are many beautiful things to see in Komodo Island. These range from underwater coral gardens, to green scenic hills. The beaches are alluring and you will want to visit the popular Pink beach.

There are other small exotic islands dispersed around the mainland too. Creating an itinerary will help you make the most out of your Labuan Bajo to Komodo trip. You will have an easier time however if you are using the services of a tour company. 

Choose a Tour Company

Numerous tour companies operate in Komodo Island. Research their services and understand what they offer beforehand. Each tour company is unique and comes with different advantages. Some companies offer a wide range of packages complete with varying highlights.

Remember, you can select a tour or boat service on arrival. However, you may end up being overcharged or with substandard services. Enjoy exclusive and good quality services by placing early bookings. 

Pack Appropriate Clothes

To get the most out of your Labuan Bajo to Komodo trip, you will need to trek for long distances. Pick the right clothes such as cotton-based ones that can easily absorb sweat, and comfortable shoes.

Mountain sandals will be ideal. Remember, there are picturesque beaches in Komodo Island and dynamic marine biodiversity. Pack your swimsuit and take a dip in the sea for effective exploration.

The weather on small islands can be unbearably hot. Remember to pack your sunscreen and make sure it has the highest SPF. wear a hat while exploring the Island in the open. A good quality camera is a must-have tool when you travel to Komodo Island.

5 SIGNS YOU MAY HAVE ILLNESS ANXIETY DISORDER AND HOW TO OVERCOME IT

It is hard not to suffer from illness anxiety disorder also referred to as health anxiety when each click of the mouse leads you to a news story about an illness or an alarming new study. With continuous medical research and findings, this can perpetuate health anxiety. Never before have laypeople had so much health information at their fingertips 24/7. What happens when this becomes an obsession and one is routinely convinced he/she is suffering from the “disease du jour?” We turned to Board Certified NYC Internist and Gastroenterologist Dr. Niket Sonpal and  New York-based Neuropsychologist, Dr. Sanam Hafeez, for a better understanding of the signs and treatment for health anxiety.

According to Dr. Sonpal, the following are signs that you may be too worried about your health and wellness:

Frequent Doctor Visits

Dr. Sonpal recalls the same patient coming in regularly asking him to “check this lump on my neck,” “is the color of my tongue normal?” “Listen to my heart, I think it beats too fast…  Those with health anxiety are consumed by the uncertainty of medicine and fearful that the disease is, in fact, inside them. If you find yourself “visiting” doctors regularly and you are found to be healthy, you may have health anxiety that requires the attention of a therapist not a physician.

Incessantly Online

From a medical standpoint, Google can be a great tool if used correctly.  “For those with health anxiety, Google is like crack-cocaine,” says Dr. Sonpal.   There is always a disease or a symptom listed online that they can correlate to themselves. Health anxiety sufferers tend to be more obsessive and convince themselves that if they feel something or see something on their body, it is always the worst-case scenario.

Avoidance

As a result of the overwhelming fear of getting an illness, individuals suffering from health anxiety may avoid certain places or activities that could potentially pose a health risk. A study conducted by Harvard Medical School states that an “avoidant group was found to have higher levels of symptom severity, functional impairment, and anxiety, as well as lower quality of life.” From these results, we can link avoidance to some of the characteristics of illness anxiety patients. If it’s flu season, the health anxiety patient may avoid airplanes, movie theatres or other enclosed crowded public areas where they feel germs are more likely to spread. This gives them a false sense of security from illness.

Repetitive Body Checks

Most individuals might not notice a bruise on their leg that occurred from a minor fall a few days earlier. Still, individuals with health anxiety analyze their entire body for signs of illness. The constant body checks often result in the mind being more likely to notice subtle changes that many people would not see. Another effect of health anxiety can be seen in obsessing over a specific organ in the body and repeatedly demanding that area be checked. 

Total Avoidance of Doctors

Juxtaposed to the patient who visits doctors all the time, is the person who is so deathly afraid of finding out something is wrong, that they skip important medical visits like yearly physicals, mammograms, gynecology visits, dental visits etc. For this group of people, this is dangerous.  By the time something is caught, it can be at an advanced stage.

Dr. Sanam  Hafeez provides insight on how to manage  and what steps to take to move forward: 

Find a Physician Who Understands That You This Anxiety:

Find a physician who you can confide in, and confess, “I have health anxiety.” This will enable the physician to treat you more effectively from a physical and mental health standpoint.

Stop Googling

In the age of health blogs, DIYS, and self-diagnosis tutorials, the internet is filled with erroneous information that can add to medical anxiety. Staying offline provides individuals with the ability to prevent the constant checking and worrying that increases their anxiety.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

C.B.T. breaks down unrealistic or unhelpful thoughts and encourages patients to replace them with more rational ideas. They can then learn to cope more realistically with anxiety-provoking situations. The therapy has been shown to remain effective in reducing symptoms of health anxiety for at least a year, and if needed, its benefit can be reinforced by a brief refresher.

Meditation

For individuals who want to try to manage their health anxiety on their own, meditation is advised. Health anxiety tends to stem from the lack of control over your body, which can lead to obsession over our health. Meditation allows individuals to connect with themselves while being able to manage their stress. This relaxation technique helps ease overall anxiety and additionally provides better coping mechanisms for improving your overall functioning.

HOW TO FIND A STUDIO FOR YOGA IN PHILADELPHIA

If you’re a yoga lover, then you know just how beneficial it is for your body. If you’re new to it, you can read more about the benefits of yoga here. And while doing yoga doesn’t require you to have a studio, it’s a lot more fun to do it than when you are alone.

Whether you’re new to yoga, just moved to Philadelphia or simply looking for a new studio, you’ll have plenty of options. But the problem is, how do you pick the right one?

A studio needs to feel comfortable and supportive, like home.

If you’re confused, here’s a simple list of factors to consider when picking a yoga studio.

Experiment

Most studios in Philadelphia will offer a trial run. So, you can just go in and try it out before making a final decision.

This will allow you to get a feel of how everything is going and what the studio is like before you have to commit. This is affordable for you and you might experience different yoga disciplines before you decide where to go.

They will also share their beliefs and opinions in these biographies, so you can see that too and it can help you decide.

It’s very important to have a good connection with an instructor, maybe even more so than with a studio itself. If the studio offers it, try to work with all of the instructors before you make a decision. Once you find an instructor you like, you can easily follow them to any studio they move to, and it can be easier for you to feel comfortable.

Look at Reviews

The internet can offer you many things, and among them are reviews that can help you make a decision about which studio to go to. Social media, websites, review websites and so on can contain some of the most useful information for you in your studio search.  

Facebook can be a good resource as you can reach out to your friends or groups related to yoga. Then you can look up the page of that studio and see their reviews there. You can do a similar thing on Instagram - plus, you can meet a bunch of people interested in yoga.

Another useful resource is Yoga Finder which can help you find all of the yoga classes and studios you need. And of course, they can help you find a studio in Philadelphia that you like. 

Use an App

Apps are amazing for finding classes nearby. For instance, Lymber is an app that can help you book a class in all sorts of gyms and studios, especially yoga studios. There is an app called the ClassPass which can help you get into some of the best classes if you have a membership.

Of course, there are many other apps that can help you, but these two are great, and they can point you to some of the best studios in Philadelphia.

Bulletin Boards

A good way to find Philadelphia yoga studios is to take a look at bulletin boards. Yes, these still exist, and you can find them in cafes, in shops, bookstores and so on. Most yoga studios and instructors like to have their numbers here, so it’s a good way to find what you’re looking for. You may also meet some great people on the way. 

If you follow these handy tips, you’ll have no problem finding great studios in Philadelphia. Just make sure that you remain open-minded. Every studio has its own style and you never know what can fit you until you try.

LUXURIOUS RENTAL COMMUNITIES - THE LATEST BUILDING TREND YOU SHOULD CONSIDER

More than 100 million Americans rent their homes, according to City Lab. Renting was once just for individuals who didn’t have a down payment or couldn’t secure a mortgage, but a growing trend has emerged. Due to an increasing number of Americans choosing to become a ‘lifestyle renter’, locations up and down the U.S. have started building luxurious rent-only communities in order to meet demand.

Transforming the property market

Colorado, Arizona, and Texas have all risen to the challenge of building rent-only communities. NexMetro Communities says they have built 2,800 rental properties in communities across all three of these areas so far, and work continues. In Austin, three active rental communities designed especially for the older population have recently appeared. However, the biggest trend among rent-only communities at present is family homes. Research shows that families are after houses rather than apartments, and want their homes to ooze luxury. As such, property developers in the area looking to expand their portfolio into the rent-only market can rest assured knowing that Austin home builders are capable of creating on-trend, opulent homes that will spark the interest of lifestyle renters. Features such as contemporary layouts and generous outdoor areas are advised in these community homes because they give renters the luxury lifestyle they want.

Luxury living

Luxury homes in the U.S. cost an average of $1.55 million, according to Redfin. But these communities are providing renters with luxury at a fraction of the cost. For example, Pradera, the 250 luxury unit that recently went up in San Antonio, has a pool, dog park and wash area, and community entertaining space. Whereas Colorado’s Commerce City’s development provides renters with a firepit, outdoor gas grill, shared pool, and shared hot tub. With these kinds of features on offer, it’s easy to see why these communities are growing in popularity.

A long-standing trend?

Research shows that over the past 60 years, house prices have surged by 112%. In comparison, wages have gone up by 50% during this period. As such, individuals are seeking out more affordable homes in a bid to cut costs. However, it remains to be seen whether this trend is one that younger generations will stick with. For years, homeownership has been the ultimate ‘American dream’, so there’s the possibility that these individuals are using rental communities as a stop-gap and to build equity before finally stepping foot on the property ladder.

Rental communities are the latest building trend to hit America. Multiple developers have seen the nation’s need for affordable family housing with added luxury and have stepped up to the plate to offer housing in close-knit communities that cater to the requirements of all.

A GUIDE TO THE BIGGEST TENNIS TOURNAMENTS IN 2020

With the completion of the US Open back in November, the major tennis tournaments of 2019 have now all been contested.

It’s been a thrilling year for the women’s game, with four different winners of the Grand Slam tournaments. Two of those winners also lifted titles on US soil before their big wins elsewhere.

We bring you a guide to six of the competitions to keep an eye on in 2020.

Australian Open

The Australian Open will take place between January 20 and the February 2 at Melbourne Park. It’s the first of the big tennis tournaments of the year and a great way to start the calendar.

The reigning men’s champion is Novak Djokovic, with Naomi Osaka the current women’s singles champion. She was seeded fourth last year, beating eighth seed Petra Kvitová in the final 7-6, 5-7, 6-4.

Sporting News reports that Osaka hasn’t enjoyed her tennis since that win and she’ll be keen to return to form in 2020.

Indian Wells Masters

The Indian Wells Masters takes place in spring, running from March 9-22 in 2020.

It’s a Premier Mandatory event on the women’s circuit and is held right here in the US. Bianca Andreescu, the current world number five, won the title in 2019 and will be looking for another strong showing in this important event.

The last female US winner of the competition was Serena Williams in 2001, although she did make the final in 2016 only to lose to Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

Miami Open

The world’s major players will be staying in the US in March for another Premier Mandatory event on the women’s calendar, the Miami Open. It kicks off immediately after the Indian Wells Masters, running from March 23 to April 5.

Current World number one Ashleigh Barty lifted the title last year, beating Czech Karolína Plíšková 7-6,6-3 in the final. Sloane Stephens, the last US winner in 2018, will be hoping her form improves in this Grand Slam warm up. She lifted the US Open in 2017, but hasn’t managed to repeat the feat since.

French Open

The French Open is played over two weeks at the end of May and beginning of June at the famous Roland Garros Stadium. A report by Stadium Business explains how in March 2019 they unveiled Court Simonne-Mathieu at the venue which they say is the most beautiful tennis venue in the world.

Rafael Nadal became the men’s champion in 2019, whilst Ashleigh Barty, the current world number one, is the reigning women’s champion. She dispatched unseeded Czech Markéta Vondroušová in the final 6-1, 6-3 and France 24 detail that in doing so became the first Australian to win a French Open title since 1973.

Wimbledon

Wimbledon fortnight takes place in late June and early July, running from June 29 to July 12 in 2020. Our article reveals Serena Williams only came back to tennis in 2018 after the birth of her daughter, but she reached the final in Wimbledon last year, losing to seventh seed Simona Halep 6-2, 6-2.

US Open


From August 31 through until September 13, the eyes of the tennis world will be on the US for the last of the major Grand Slam tournaments.

Rafael Nadal is the reigning men’s champion, with Canadian Bianca Andreescu taking the women’s singles last time out against Serena in the final.

There was some domestic joy for the US in the last tournament, Bethanie Mattek-Sands lifted the mixed doubles title with Great British player Jamie Murray.

WILL SERENA WILLIAMS LIFT INTO THE AIR ANOTHER GRAND SLAM TROPHY?

We certainly hope so and the fact that she’s made four finals in the last seven suggests her answer to that question is “yes.” But the goal to tie Margaret Court’s Grand Slam record of 24 wins, as of late, to be elusive for the Greatest Of All Time.

And many sports commentators and tennis pundits are beginning to express doubts she’ll break the record. In the same breath, though, they also say that whether she does or doesn’t tie Court, she is still the GOAT.

Williams’ latest attempt to win No. 24 was thwarted at the U.S. Open by 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu (3-6, 5-7). Oh, Canada!

For Williams, who has been stuck on 23 Grand Slam wins since January 2017, it was her fourth loss in a row in a grand slam tournament final.

The other three were 2019 Wimbledon to Simona Halep (2-6, 2-6); 2018 U.S. Open to Naomi Osaka (2-6, 4-6); and 2018 Wimbledon to Angelique Kerber (3-6, 3-6).

Two years after the birth of her and husband Alexis Ohanian’s daughter Alexis Olympia, which was followed by multiple complications, Williams is reaching the pinnacle of grand slam tournaments – she just hasn’t been able to slam the door on the grand slam goal.

Williams hasn’t made excuses but has been honest that coming back after the C-section birth, the blood clots, a pulmonary embolism, surgery to repair her C-section incision and a hematoma, hasn’t been easy. These complications, which put her in bed for more than six weeks, could have killed her.

That’s a lot of stress on anyone, even as a pillar of power that Williams effectively shows repeatedly on the court.

When she lost to Kerber in the 2018 Wimbledon finals, 10 months after giving birth, she emotionally told the crowd: “To all the moms out there, I was playing for you today. And I tried.”

Her return to tennis has been fraught with controversy and open frustration. Among them, her compression catsuit that helped with blood clots that have since been banned at the French Open.

Add to that Williams’ vocal dispute with the ref who gave her three code violations at the 2018 U.S. Open which unfortunately overshadowed Osaka’s historic victory in the final.

With every finals’ loss, whispers have turned to open talk about the record possibly being out of reach for Williams:

●      “(This is) probably the first time I've had a question mark in my mind" about Williams getting to 24 Grand Slam wins. – David Law, co-host of The Tennis Podcast

●      “I can’t imagine her playing past next year,” seven-time grand slam winner John McEnroe said after the U.S. Open loss.

●      Bryan Armen Graham, a columnist for the Guardian wrote that “Serena is not going to break this record.”

Williams has said nothing about retirement but did discuss her frustration about her play in the U.S. Open final calling it “inexcusable.” She also praised Andreescu and said, “She deserved this championship.”

It was obvious another grand slam loss was weighing on her. "I'm not necessarily chasing a record. I'm just trying to win Grand Slams," she told reporters.

She recognized her failings and knows she still has a way to go and vows to continue the fight.

"I believe I could have played better. I believe I could have done more. I believe I could have just been more Serena today," she said. "I honestly don't think Serena showed up. I have to kind of figure out how to get her to show up in Grand Slam finals.

"All of it honestly, truly is super frustrating," she said "I'm so close, so close, so close, yet so far away.

"I don't know what to say. I guess I got to keep going if I want to be a professional tennis player. And I just got to just keep fighting through it."

THE BIGGEST SPORTING EVENTS OF 2019 (PAST AND PRESENT)

Sports fans across the world never need to wait too long for a thrilling event, as there are many superb tournaments, championships and races on the calendar throughout the year.

If you are always looking forward to the next big game, or want to cheer on the underdog, there will be an excellent sporting competition to watch on the small screen. Check out the biggest sporting events of 2019 – past and present.

Super Bowl LIII

One sporting event most Americans refuse to miss is the Super Bowl, which is an annual National Football League (NFL) championship game. It is the culmination of an adrenaline-fueled season, which starts in late summer and ends in early February. Unsurprisingly, the New England Patriots enjoyed victory once again at Super Bowl LIII on 3rd February, beating the Los Angeles Rams 13-3.

The Six Nations

Rugby fans anxiously await the launch of the Six Nations, which is an annual rugby union competition between England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy and France. This year, Wales proved to be unstoppable, as they expertly beat all five nations, which was their first Grand Slam since 1912. You can guarantee the losing countries will be seeking their revenge come 2020.

The Masters

It’s fair to say this year’s Masters was exciting, with Tiger Woods proving he’s not out of the game just yet – even though many critics didn’t project he would win the tournament. The golfing icon came back in style this April, claiming the 15th major in his sporting career. Was it a fluke? It’s doubtful; as golf fans will know, The Masters is the most challenging major in the sport.

The Grand National

The Grand National has been held annually at Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, England, since 1839, with horses jumping over 30 fences throughout the 4-mile and 2½ furlong race. The only horse to have won the handicap steeplechase three times was Red Rum; however, this year’s champion, Tiger Roll, could potentially match the same record in 2020, as it was the first to cross the finish line for the second year running in April.

The Premier League

It doesn’t matter if you live in the United Kingdom or the United States, it is impossible not to become wrapped up in the Premier League, which is the English soccer league system. The 2018/2019 season did not disappoint, with football fans across the world arguing whether Liverpool FC or Manchester City would take home the cup, as the team were neck-in-neck from August through to May. Unfortunately, the dream was not to be for LFC, who lost by one point to Manchester City.

FA Cup Final

Lovers of English football also anxiously await the FA Cup Final every year, which this year was between Manchester City and Watford FC on May 18th. While Watford FC did well to end up in the final, it seems there was no stopping City who stormed to victory by winning 6-0 and securing a domestic Treble.

The Championships, Wimbledon

The next big event on the sporting calendar has to be The Championships, Wimbledon, which will start from June 1st to July 14th 2019. It is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the sport, as the finest players have been taking to the court since 1877. It is also the only tennis major that is played on grass.

Will Novak Djokovic and Angelique Kerber do it again? Or will the likes of Kevin Anderson and Serena Williams win the £34 million prize money? Only time will tell.

The UEFA Champions League Final

While the UEFA Champions League Final is an international sporting event, it will be an all-English final in 2019. Despite Liverpool FC losing out to Manchester City in the Premier League, they still have a chance of securing victory at the UEFA Champions League Final.

After surprisingly thrashing Barcelona in the semi-finals, they are set to go up against Tottenham Hotspur FC on June 1st. Will LFC win their sixth Champions League Cup, or will Tottenham repeat their historic 1963 victory?

US Open - Golf

If you’re missing all the action from The Masters, you will definitely want to tune in to the US Open from June 13th to 16th 2019. The annual national golf championship will be held at Pebble Beach, California, and it is the second of four major golf championships throughout the year.

Tiger Woods will more than likely be eager to prove that The Masters was more than just a fluke, but he will face tough competition from Brooks Koepka, the world’s top ranked player, as well as Dustin Johnson, who is the world number two.

NBA Finals

The NBA playoffs have been keeping basketball fans on the edge of their seats since April 13. However, the NBA finals will conclude the season this June. It looks likely that the Golden State Warriors will meet the Cleveland Cavaliers in the final, as they have done every year since June 2015 and this year is shaping up to be no different.

Tour de France

You can tune in to the Tour de France from July 6th, which is when the finest men’s cyclists in the sport will embark on the multi-stage bicycle race; it is primarily located in France but will briefly pass through other nearby countries. It features 21 day-long stages, which are held over 23 days, and will this year mark the 100th anniversary of the event.

US Open – Tennis

The United States Open Tennis Championships, also known as the US Open, is the modern equivalent of the oldest American tennis championship, the US National Championship. While it might lack the prestige of Wimbledon, it is one of the most respected tournaments in the sport. It will this year begin on August 26th and will come to a close on September 8th. While lifting the trophy might be prize enough, the winners of both the men’s and women’s singles will each walk away with $3.7 million.

2019 has already got off to an exciting start and it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon, as there are plenty of exciting annual events to look forward to on the calendar that you will not want to miss.

6 TIPS TO BECOME A BETTER GOLFER PLAYER IN NO TIME

Golf is more than just roaming and hitting on the course- it is counted among those few sports that demand serious effort and dedication. Unlike the status quo symbol of a "rich man's game" that it carries, golfing has a fan base comprising of all backgrounds. This is why every year more and more people test their lucks and spend hours on the course, perfecting their craft.

However, dedication might take you somewhere but in order to establish yourself as a true contender, you must exercise tips and tricks that are there in the game. Luckily for you, if you are just starting out,here are some tips that will help improve your game:

Learning the Right Alignments

How can you expect to hit the target without being in line with it? Consequently, when it comes to golf, what you need to do is assess your alignment before taking your stance. This practice is vital, especially in case you are trying to lower your handicap, and the most simple way of doing this involves taking in perspective the target and aligning the clubhead behind the ball in the same direction.

Avoiding Changing Stances Often

Changing your stance is probably the most common and criminal mistake as it does your game absolutely no good. For starters, you might believe that the length of the shot or the club you are using might require you to chance your stance but all these factors have no link to it. Therefore, keeping up a steady traditional stance and allowing room for minor adjustments can ensure maximum accuracy.

Gripping for the Right Shot

A harder grip won't ensure the ball will go flying to the flags, therefore don't give into that impulse. There are techniques that you can ensure have a solid grip rather than a stiff grip and those are what you need to consider while making a move. The best gripping technique involves the club being positioned in between the thumb and the index finger such that they form a "V" facing towards the right shoulder, and with both hands gripping the club at different points.

Understanding Speed

In order to make the right shots, you need to have the right speed. In order to ace your golf game, you need to have higher club head and ball speeds. This perfect speed combo will cover more distance for you, which means reaching the target in lesser shots. In order to understand the relation between speed and power, you must practice drills that will not only help increase your speed, but control it as well.

Use the Wind as an Ally

If you want to completely destroy your game points, then you might as well play against the wind. In order to achieve the desired distance, learn to use the wind as your ally. On those particularly windy days, make an easier swing instead of making a harder one, in order to make the most of downwind swinging. A pro-tip is to emphasize more on hitting the ball, rather than swinging it in order to delay your impact.

You can use all the techniques, tips and tricks but none would help if your equipment is faulty or not appropriate. What golf club you think is the best one, might not do you any good on longer lengths. The right kind of golf club can only be determined with practice, but for a broader definition something that supports your personal shot tendencies, complies with the wind condition all while accommodating the lengths is good to go.
