We made our way to the East Village to enjoy Northern Italian cuisine at Salumeria Rosi which launched in the UWS in 2008 and recently reopened in the East Village after 20 months of construction.
Upon stepping into this eatery, it has a mix of a cafe feel as well as a cozy restaurant. Owner, Andrew Loscalzo grew up in English pubs which served as an inspiration for this location. He wanted to create an envirnoment where people can come for a coffee, stay for lunch and then enjoy an afternoon aperitif. At 5pm, the lights come down, the candles come out and you may just stay for dinner as well.
For breakfast, there are a number of authentically Italian choices, but 3 to keep an eye out for are imported Sfogliatella from the famed Napolitan Pistecceria, Sal de Riso, and there is a choice of Stuffed Butter Croissants with Prosciutto or Mortadella. Their most popular item for this time of day is their Pressed Butter Croissants topped with dill crème fraiche, lox and lemon zest.
The perfect caffeine pairings take place at the espresso bar where they encourage “no espresso to go.” That means enjoying the espresso as much as the coffee. With a number of options, they suggest their Iced Lattes as well as their house Nutella Cappuccino.
For lunch or dinner, 3 Antipasta dishes that we have our eye on is their Burrata and Apricots as well as their Carciofi Fritti and their Alla Giudia style with Cacio e Pepe Cream.
For pasta options, we suggest their Cacio Pepe which we enjoyed. Their housemade Spaghetti alle Vongole is their most premiere dish. They import the vongole direct from Italy. The most popular pasta their signature Rigatoni Alla Salumeria which is their housemade rigatoni mixed with sauce, imported cured meats, and plum tomatoes, topped with Pecorino Romano.
For dessert, keep in mind their Torta Di Ricotta, Pistachio Panna Cotta, and Delizia al Limone (lemon cake).
We enjoyed their Hugo Spritz which was refreshing! They pride themselves on having a fantastic house wine selection as they believe guests should always have something very good to drink when choosing house wine. They have an Enzoni which is a grape twist of a classic Negroni. Their most popular drink over the years has always been their Aperol Gimlet.
For those looking for their next Brunch destination, Andrew wants us to know that it is all about eggs, eggs, and more eggs! If you are looking for something else or to add to this - they have Pancakes made with ricotta. Both their full menu and brunch menu are available during brunch hours.
