THE HOLIDAY SEASON MEANS TAKING TIME FOR YOU

This time of year is the perfect storm of more events and activities on our calendars than what usually takes place! It’s about wrapping up the end of the year as well as setting ourselves up for success for the next. It’s also a time when we’re out with friends, family, and co-workers and every meal is a holiday experience! We’re also staying organized as we shop for gifts, take care of last minute things that pop up and ensure that we’re engaging in and/or adding to our holiday traditions! In the midst of so much activity, it’s essential to still take time for yourself in a number of ways. Even when you know you’re engaging in all of this activity because you do enjoy it, it can still be exhausting and checking in with yourself and your needs is essential!

Make sure that your schedule in terms of personal needs includes that you continue to workout. Whether you have a fitness studio that you attend throughout the week or you do it at home with On Demand programs. It’s even more important during this time of year that you stick to it. Not only do you receive the benefits of maintaining your goals, but it allows you to clear your mind so that you can keep in mind all the things that you are focused on accomplishing. Whatever time of day you take that time, you know that you are giving yourself the quality time and effort that is essential to you.

Every good workout needs to be accompanied by appropriate recovery! Stretching and foam rolling is a great way to ensure that you have prepared your body to continue on its path so that you reduce potential injuries and that you’re ready to put it through the paces that you need to go about your schedule. This should be done not only when you did a workout that really put you through the paces, it’s another great way to stay in touch with your body and to know what it needs and feels.

We think it’s essential to incorporate meditation and/or breath work to enhance the mind/body connection. Taking those moments to stay present in the moment and to ensure that you’re thinking through things and have the proper perspective so that you can be your most optimized. There are so many apps where you can find the practice that make sense to you and works with your schedule.

Finally, fueling the body is an important way to set yourself up for success in not only providing the nutrients that you need, but also to have items that taste great and optimize your efforts.
