PROPER GROOMING TIPS FOR MEN

January 22, 2020

Let’s face it, the beauty industry nowadays isn’t just targeting ladies any longer – gentlemen have as much right to feel clean and look impeccable! Gone are the days of skipped showers and untrimmed beards, the man of the 21st century knows the importance of following certain beauty rituals in order to showcase the best version of himself, and with no shame.

In that spirit of rekindled love for hygiene, we’ve gathered some essential tips and tricks for guys to properly groom and freshen themselves up. From hair to skin and nails, it’s crucial to adopt a routine that will guarantee you looking sharp everyday.

We’ve also included some products and commodities you’ll certainly find useful to have in your bathroom.

Visit your barber, regularly

Unless you’re going for a negligé bad boy look, one of the first things you should consider to improve your daily appearance is to pay your barber a visit on a regular basis. Regardless of its length or how much of it you have on your head, your hair needs a cut from time to time in order to stay sharp-looking. Let your barber give you recommendations on which hairstyle best suits you.

Choose the right hair products

Even with that, it’s essential to choose the right toiletries to have your hair looking and feeling healthy. Skip the cheap shampoo and select a product that’s appropriate to your hair type: straight, curly, prone to breakage or dandruff, etc. With an effective shampoo, your hair is bound to look thick and lustrous. Remember that synthetic gels, sprays and other hair pastes aren’t fashionable anymore. Keep it organic.

Keep your bathroom organized

Start thinking of your bathroom as your temple of beauty. As any sacred place, it must be well-equipped and organized for you to be able to prepare conveniently in the morning. This is why you should invest in keeping your space neat; there are several brand options, including this one here, which will help you in compartmentalizing your toiletries for easier and better access, along with some friendly grooming tips. A must for those looking to optimize their time in the bathroom.

Pamper your beard

Beards are a renewed trend in male grooming. A modern man does not have a beard, in fact, he wears it. As with anything that adorns your face, it should be kept trimmed and hydrated to avoid getting that caveman allure. Purchasing a beard kit that includes trimmer, scissors and oil is a fantastic idea to stay on top of your facial bush. You’ll find plenty of these kits available online.

Keep it short

Speaking of bushes, it’s important for any well-groomed man to keep his private parts from looking like a wild jungle. Pubes aren’t sexy anymore. Yes, we’re talking about both the pillar and the stones. Depending on your skin sensitivity, you’ll want to opt for either depilatory cream, trimmer or the good old razor (careful with that last one!). So start being proactive, and don’t just wait for a date night with your girlfriend to mow the lawn.

Adopt a healthy skin care routine

Know that the first step towards glowing skin is hydration and a balanced diet. Limit sweets, fast foods and saturated fat contents. This will prevent acne, rashes and other nuisances.

Next, consider a few things:

  • You need a face wash to cleanse your face, no more than twice a day. Popular options include water-based solutions or foams, depending on skin type (normal, dry, oily, combination).

  • Invest in a quality moisturizer to hydrate your face and body, particularly in winter if your skin is prone to dryness.

  • A weekly scrub is a great ritual to eliminate dead skin cells and feel refreshed. Look for ones with active ingredients such as charcoal.

The importance of nails

people-2583493_1280.jpg

Now, we’re not suggesting you get a monthly mani-pedi (although, why not), yet it’s important to cut your fingernails and toenails on a regular basis. Along with your facial hair, nails are a prime and immediate indicator of your level of overall hygiene to strangers; failing to take care of them will result in bad, long-lasting first impressions. Again, proactive.

Fragrances: Less is more

While we all love getting compliments on how good we smell, it’s best to use deodorants and perfumes sparingly. Keep in mind that spraying yourself to death is not an alternative to your daily shower.

All things considered, gentlemen’s style is as much about fashion as it is about grooming these days. Any modern man should adopt these recommendations in order to look impeccable and to feel immaculate. Don’t just up your game to impress the ladies, do it for a healthier and finer lifestyle.

THREE SECRETS OF YOUNGER LOOKING MEN

December 14, 2019

Why do some men the same age appear so different? Some guys seem to have all the luck when it comes to aging well, while others can appear old before their time. However, it’s not all down to luck or good genes, and there are steps that any man can take to turn back the hands of time.

If you’re approaching a crossroads in life, perhaps after a divorce or when facing a career change, it makes sense to think about your appearance as your shop window. If you want a potential employer or partner to invest in you, then it’s time to ensure that you’re looking attractive, groomed and worth a second glance. Here are some ways that you can invest in appearing or coming across as a younger version of yourself.

Posture

The way a man stands says a lot about his self-confidence, energy levels and youthfulness. Standing tall is important at any age, but poor posture can add an entire decade onto a man in his 50’s and beyond. Talk to your doctor about posture, as this can also affect your spine in later life. You may need specialist help to realign your back, or it might just be a case of remembering to stand and sit with a straighter back until it becomes a habit. This is one completely free way to improve how you come across in person, and it might even prevent future medical problems.

Your skin

The skin on your face has been exposed to sun, wind and pollution for your entire life. While women tend to protect their skin from their 20’s with a barrier of moisturiser and even sunscreen, men tend not to bother until it’s almost too late. If you’ve neglected your skin, it’s possible to literally peel away the years with a chemical peel, which will remove things like surface sun damage, old acne scars and even fine wrinkles. The depth of peel is up to you, with the more intense peels requiring several weeks of downtime while your old skin comes away and your fresher, newer face is revealed underneath. If that’s too extreme, milder peels can retexture and refine your skin over the course of several months.

Sort your hair out

If you’ve had the same hairstyle for over 10 years, it might be time for a restyle. Hair loss is a major age giveaway, and even very elderly men look more youthful and sprightly with hair than without it.

Could you change your hairstyle? How about using a subtle dye, or a thickening product to bulk it up? Perhaps you’d like to consider a hair transplant as an investment in your future.

WHAT SUPPLEMENTS ARE GOOD FOR YOUR PROSTATE?

August 28, 2019

In achieving great overall health and wellness, you must be consistent in taking care of your body and its different parts and organs to ensure that they function harmoniously. This includes your reproductive organs, as they are vital to both your physical and holistic health.

In light of this, one of the leading cancers common in American men is prostate cancer, next to skin cancer. An estimated 30,000 men have died from prostate cancer this year, making it the second cause of cancer death in the United States, after lung cancer. Because of this, men should endeavor to always keep their prostate in good condition.

What Can Men Do For Their Prostate?

As men age, their prostate relatively increases from being the size of a walnut to the size of an apricot as they reach 60 years of age. This enlargement is called benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), though it remains unclear why this happens. Other common prostate problems that occur amongst men are chronic prostatitis, acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis, and prostate cancer. Symptoms of prostate gland enlargement include:

●      Frequent and painful urination

●      Blood in urine or semen

●      Urinary incontinence

●      Frequent pain in the lower back, upper thighs, hips, and rectal area

●      Painful ejaculation

To prevent symptoms from worsening, men can practice various healthy habits to keep their prostate in good condition. One of these is having healthy eating patterns by consuming fruits and vegetables with deep and bright colors, healthy fats, and high-protein meals in the right portions. Together with the proper diet, men can boost their prostate health through taking vitamins and supplements, like the Prostagenix, which promotes prostate health and combats BPH. To shed light on the matter, you can take dietary prostate supplements, all of which have varying effects, according to your physician’s prescription. Here are some of them:

Pygeum

Extracted from the bark of African cherry trees, pygeum is known for its wide array of health benefits, including remedies for BPH, cure for prostate cancer, and treatment for prostatitis symptoms. Since prostate issues are usually linked with prostate enlargement, pygeum can help in shrinking the prostate and prevent or slow down its further enlargement. In this way, pygeum can relieve various symptoms such as poor, painful, and frequent urination, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Pygeum extracts usually come into two classifications: Pygeum africanum and Prunus africana. Physicians generally recommended 75 mg to 200 mg of pygeum each day to be a safe amount. Pygeum supplements usually exist in capsule and tablet forms, which can be taken orally. However, side effects like nausea and abdominal pain might occur.

Beta-sitosterol

Beta-sitosterols, which are steroids found in most plants, are a chemical substance resembling the structure of cholesterol. It is found in nutritious foods like soybeans, peanuts, wheat germs, rice bran, and corn oils. Aside from its health benefits that deal with heart diseases, the immune system, allergies, the common cold, asthma, and more, beta-sitosterols are also found to benefit the prostate. Similar to pygeum extracts, beta-sitosterols can alleviate the benign enlargement of the prostate and prevent the exacerbation of prostate cancer. In women, this substance is also used for menopausal symptoms. Beta-sitosterols also aid in boosting sexual activity and hormonal regulation.

Beta-sitosterols are also recommended to be consumed orally, and it’s also safe when applied to the skin. However, taking beta-sitosterol supplements can cause inconvenient side effects such as gas, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, and nausea, but these can be manageable. These supplements come in the form of tablets and capsules, and are affordable.

Saw Palmetto

The saw palmetto or American dwarf palm tree yields ripe fruits known as the saw palmetto, which are highly significant in the field of health and medicine. This is commonly used in preventing the symptoms of BPH. It doesn’t actually shrink the size of the prostate, but it shrinks the inner lining on the tubes carrying urine. Through this treatment, painful urination can be lessened as there’s decreased pressure on the ureters.

However, because it is a folk remedy, saw palmetto may not be as effective as other supplements and medications for BPH. Even though its effects in the body occur slowly, saw palmetto can otherwise help in the prostate’s post-surgery conditions. Taking 320 mg of saw palmetto everyday for two months before a prostate surgery is known to be helpful during the actual operation. It can lessen the time spent on the surgery, the risk of issues developing during the surgery, and diminished blood loss.

Conclusion

As most people often forget its importance, the prostate gland is an essential organ in the male reproductive system that is responsible for various components of the semen. Through taking these dietary supplements, men can contribute to their prostate health and slow down the impending symptoms and occurrences of prostate issues.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PROBIOTICS FOR MEN?

December 12, 2018

What Are The Benefits of Probiotics For Men?

We hear so much about probiotics and healthy eating, but do you have any idea what probiotics are, and why you should be taking them?

The health and wellness industry is always introducing new products onto the market, but probiotics have certainly stuck around for a good few years now. There is a good reason for that - probiotics have been proven to have a range of benefits for overall health and wellness, especially for the gut. Of course, further studies will need to continue, in order to ascertain whether there are any possible side effects, and the extent of the benefits too.

For now however, we simply know that probiotics are beneficial, but what are they?

Probiotics are actually bacteria and yeasts. Whilst that might sound troubling, it’s actually a good thing! Probiotics are healthy bacteria. Your body needs both good and bad bacteria to create a natural, harmonious balance. The good bacteria helps to stop the bad bacteria from running riot and causing disturbances, and also ensures smooth running of your overall digestive system.

As a man, why should you consider taking these healthy bacteria as part of your daily routine? Let’s check out some of the benefits of probiotics for men.

Probiotics Help to Treat And Prevent Diarrhoea, Caused by Antibiotics

If you are prescribed antibiotics by your doctor, you are at risk of developing diarrhoea, caused by that medication. Probiotics can help to prevent this from occurring in the first place, if you’ve been taking supplements for a while already, and can treat it if you’ve suddenly developed it. We all know how annoying and inconvenient diarrhoea can be!

Probiotics Help to Lower Cholesterol Levels

Do you have an unhealthy diet? Or, do you have a family history of heart issues and high cholesterol? According to Staci Gulbin RD, probiotics could help to lower your cholesterol levels, and therefore lower your risk of developing serious heart-related conditions in the future. Of course, you’ll need to take probiotics in conjunction with a healthy diet too.

Probiotics May Help to Reduce Anxiety And Depression

There is some suggestion that taking a regular probiotic supplement could lower your risk of developing anxiety and depression, and could also help to reduce the effects if you do suffer with it already. There are two main strains which are associated with this benefit, namely B. Longum, and Helveticus.

Probiotics Help With a Variety of Digestive System Conditions

The stressful and busy lives we lead these days can cause stomach upsets and conditions, such as diverticular disease and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). If you suffer from a gut issue, taking a regular probiotic could help to relieve your symptoms and cut down on the chances of a flare up from occurring. Soothing IBS symptoms is one of the most well-known benefits of probiotics overall.

Probiotics Boost Your Immune System

Giving your good bacteria amount a boost means a better immune systems. Studies have shown that those two take a regular probiotic supplement, or those who get a good amount of natural probiotics in their diet, fall foul of the common cold much less frequently as a result. This is useful for anyone who seems to be prone to catching every virus doing the rounds during the winter months, for sure!

Probiotics May Help You Lose Belly Fat

There are certain probiotic strains which are thought to help with weight loss, particularly around the belly area. L. Gasseri is one of those strains, as well as B. Lactis too. Obviously this needs to be taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise, but the probiotic supplement could help you to target where you want to lose the weight from, more effectively than otherwise.

Probiotics Help to Cut Down on Ulcer Development

There is one particular type of bad bacteria which has been considered conductive to ulcer development, i.e. Helicobacter Pylori. By taking a regular probiotic, you are giving your body more of the good bacteria to fight this strain, and several studies have shown that by doing this, you reduce the chances of a H. Pylori infection, and therefore cut down your chances of developing an ulcer, when you lead a healthy lifestyle overall.

Probiotics Help With Gut Health Overall

Overall, probiotics are beneficial for your gut, and this ensures that you have less stomach upsets and more regular days when you don’t have bloating, excess gas, or any other gastric disturbances which cause upset and distress. Again, we live busy and stressful lives and all of this can contribute to a lifestyle of grabbing the quickest meal possible at the end of the day, perhaps not chewing your food enough and causing indigestion. When you follow a healthy diet and lifestyle and incorporate probiotics into it, you will find that your gut health is optimum as a result.

By choosing to incorporate probiotics into your life, you need to decide whether to go down the natural route, i.e. within your diet, or by taking a supplement. You won’t struggle to find a wide range of different supplements on the market, with tablets, capsules, and yoghurt drinks available. If you choose to up your probiotics content in your diet, you need to focus your attention towards live yoghurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kale, fermented foods, kombucha, miso, dark chocolate, traditional buttermilk, and other foods which are known to be high in natural probiotic content.

Many people find it difficult to get their full amount of probiotics from diet alone, which is why supplements are so popular these days. Remember to show around for the best supplement for you, and to always seek the advice of your doctor before you start taking any new kind of supplement, which you haven’t taken before. There isn’t a lot of evidence to suggest major side effects of probiotics, but at the same time, not a huge amount of studies have been done into this either. A quick chat with your doctor will give you the information you need, to be able to decide whether probiotics are the best choice for you or not.
