When you think about R&B you always come to Boyz II Men who had one hit after another with their cool sound, great sense of style and music videos that you remember when thinking about their songs. Although they are a phenomenal music group, we had the chance to hear about a project one of the founding members and Grammy winning artist, Nathan Morris is doing with the DIY Network in his new show, a four part series premiering on Oct 6th – Hit Properties with Nathan Morris. We had a moment to chat with him while he talked about the legacy of his group, his interest in real estate, how this show differs from a number of flipping programs and what we can find him doing when he is not touring and flipping houses!
ATHLEISURE MAG: Before we get into your new show on DIY Network, we know you kicked off this year’s NFL season with Boyz II Men at Lincoln Financial Field. We’ve been a fan of the group since Cooleyhighharmony. How have you guys continued to be an amazing group that has produced a number of hits, videos and more?
NATHAN MORRIS: I just feel that we are truly blessed to still be able to do what we love, to see our fans and for them to still find that after 27 years, our music is still relevant to them. Our fans are from all over the world and they give us so much love. When you hear fans say that the first song they slow danced to was, “I’ll Make Love to You” or they had a Boyz II Men baby – to know that we have been a part of people’s important moments is crazy!
AM: You guys have a residency at The Mirage in Las Vegas – how is it to prepare for these shows and is there a place that you have yet to perform that you would still like to do?
NM: We love that our fans know that 22 weekends out of the year, they can come see us at The Mirage – we have done this for the past 3 years. We know a number of our fans who have really enjoyed our music over the years may have never seen us in concert - so this is the venue to do it! We just signed an additional 3 years there.
I’d love to see us performing throughout South America and we’d love to be able to have the chance to go to the Middle East and to perform in Duabi. We’d also love to go to Africa as well.
AM: Clearly, we know you’ve been a powerhouse in the music business but how did this translate to real estate?
NM: I’ve had the pleasure of investing in some serious real estate deals on the business side and on the personal side, I’ve done some construction, renovation and designing.
AM: Tell us about your new show Hit Properties with Nathan Morris?
NM: I’m really excited about this show. I know that there are a lot of shows about flipping houses, but we really go in there to show you what it’s like. I take this old mansion in Orlando and I Nate-a-cize it – I love luxurious upgrades and I really like smart home upgrades, remote controlled toilettes and WiFi enabled lighting. In addition to showing the work of taking this 8,200 sq feet mansion from a decrepit place to a glamourous one, we also have humor in this show and you see my right hand man, Bryant Gipson working right along side with me as he has done in other projects that we have partnered on together.
AM: Why did you focus on Orlando?
NM: Mainly, the weather is ideal there as you can pretty much work year around and it just made sense to do it there.
AM: What do people who want to get into the flipping industry need to know about the business?
NM: If you’re a person who can’t be flexible and only has a plan if everything goes right – then this is not for you! You also have to remember that when you're flipping a house, you're not building it for you. You want to put finishes and touches that someone buying it could see for themselves. If you make it with amenities that you personally want, you may find that they are too much to your taste and not universal.
AM: What are areas that you suggest a flipper should focus on when doing a home?
NM: I believe that the kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms are essential. I spend the most time in these areas of my home after my bedroom. These are areas where you want to be able to relax. I don’t like small spaces so you’ll see in the show that I increased one of the rooms by 15 to 20 feet in order to be more spacious and inviting.
Make sure to check out this season this season of Hit Properties with Nathan Morris on DIY Network which debuts on Oct 6th at 10:30pm EST.

Drafting a franchise quarterback is what many underachieving teams hope for each season. In 2018, the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl with backup Nick Foles guiding them. However, for most of the regular season, it was their No. 2 pick from the 2016 NFL Draft Carson Wentz who led the way. His team ranked atop the NFL power rankings during the campaign and enters this latest season as No. 1 on a number of lists. It's no surprise that teams were seeking quarterbacks this past summer. They could do so again next draft and Missouri's Drew Lock is a potential top pick at the spot.
The Walter Football website gives the latest analysis of various NFL draft prospects through their college careers. In addition, the website gives scouting reports and mock drafts to help fans get an understanding of where prospects rank. Drew Lock is a player that scouts have their eyes on thanks to his SEC record of 44 touchdown passes in a season. Lock is a 6-foot-3, 226-pound star who has passed for 3,964 yards and 44 touchdowns during his collegiate career. However, Lock's personality brings a question mark.
The scouts have given positive marks to Lock in terms of his throwing arm calling it a "rifle." They've also said he's a good athlete with a skill set similar to former NFL QB Jay Cutler. His personality brings the questions as he's been compared to the New York Giants' Eli Manning. That's not a bad comparison, though, as Manning is a two-time Super Bowl winner. Still, some scouts feel Lock's personality may not fit what some NFL coaches and general managers want in their locker room.
It's noted that Lock is "quiet" and maybe "a little nerdy," so he may be lacking the commanding presence that other QBs have. However, he's got the football I.Q. needed to succeed on the field as he can learn fast and pick up new things. A lot of teams will value that sort of approach and may not mind his personality as long as he's helping them succeed.
On Charlie Campbell's latest Walter Football 2019 NFL mock draft, he has Lock going at No. 25 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Campbell mentions that Blake Bortles isn't necessarily tied to the Jags for "many years to come" so they could be "looking for an upgrade." Lock could provide them with that upgrade if they're willing to gamble on him not necessarily being a vocal team leader. He's got a full college season to continue to show off his skills and impress scouts, but the personality aspect may still hamper his draft options.
Right now, Oregon's Justin Herbert is listed at No. 4 overall in Campbell's draft and would go to the Miami Dolphins as a replacement for Ryan Tannehill. Auburn's Jarrett Stidham is ranked No. 10 for the Giants to replace Eli Manning. The two-time Super Bowl champion will eventually be on the way out despite a great run with his team. It's likely that both Herbert and Stidham have stronger on-field or locker room leader type personalities when compared to Lock. That's not to say Lock isn't skilled, though.
Eli Manning and the Tennessee Titans' Marcus Mariota are considered quiet personalities, but both are highly-skilled QBs and valuable to their teams. In current NFL power rankings, these teams are just below the middle of the list, but should they surge this season, expect them to rise. That could make a decent case for taking a chance on a personality like Missouri's Drew Lock in next summer's NFL Draft.

We're coming back to another season where we will be attending a number of weddings during the fall. There are a number of things to consider as a guest from gift giving, attending events and more. Regardless of the type of wedding you're attending there is still an etiquette to be aware of. We sat down with Lizzie Post, great-great granddaughter to the iconic Emily Post, to find out what we need to know about wedding season as guests as well as those that are in the bridal party. In addition, she shares some great ideas on the rules of attending a wedding even in an age of social media where we're eager to post our best wishes to the happy couple.
ATHLEISURE MAG: Can you tell our readers a bit about your background and your connection to Emily Post?
LIZZIE POST: I have been working at The Emily Post Institute (the business Emily founded in 1946 to allow her work to carry on through her family) for the past 11 years and Emily was my great-great-grandmother.
AM: What would you define as expected elements at a wedding whether for a casual or a glam affair?
LP: No matter how you get married, there are usually two people making a promise and some form of a celebration. Whether that’s a big party or the couple driving around to their friends and family and showing the marriage certificate from the courthouse, it matters not. What matters is that two people have made a commitment to one another and how they want to share and celebrate that is up to them.
That being said, most people have an exchange of vows followed by a party and that party has a typical routine of a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. (Speeches and toasts, first dances, bouquet tosses, and cake cutting are all typical elements, but not mandatory by any etiquette standard. Cutting the cake does carry with it the traditional rule that once the cake is cut, guests may leave. If you leave this element out of a wedding it's nice to have
something in its place to let guests know it’s okay to leave. (Though, most guests will simply do so once they are ready to end the night.)
AM: What are people doing now to add their own touch?
LP: Pretty much any and everything! Whether that’s a grand entrance to the ceremony, or labeling the tables at the reception (themes include: superheros, cocktails, authors, movies, destinations, foods, books, bands…) you name it and a couple can personalize it to their style and needs for their big day. One piece of advice: Ask yourself if this element of your wedding is necessary to you feeling married on your big day. It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole when planning a wedding and feeling like every decision has to represent you and your partner and be an amazing expression of the two of you. It doesn’t. Pick and choose what will really make you feel married and let the rest of it (maybe that’s napkin colors, or the variety of appetizers, or the size of the lights hanging in the garden bar area) just be whatever works.
AM: What are great wedding gifts to give?
LP: So many ideas! Mainly, keep the couple and their interests in mind. I partnered with Marshalls this wedding season because I absolutely love getting inspired to give a wedding gift off the registry. (I usually look at the registry to get an idea of color or style.) At Marshalls I often put together a basket of things for the couple. If they like to cook, some cookware and specialty ingredients or a set of serving ware (platters, trays, plates, bowls – choose what works! - and serving utensils) and one of my favorite recipes written out on a nice card – which you can also find at Marshalls! They have great stationery for thank you notes too! Picking out the items is fun – and I'm always pleasantly surprised by what I find!
AM: Times change but what wedding etiquette stands the test of time from the bridal side and the attendee side?
LP: The couple should always spend a moment with each guest. Whether it’s a receiving line, or visiting tables during the meal, or just making the rounds and being diligent about it, it’s important that the couple gets to connect with each guest and thank them for coming.
For guests, RSVPing appropriately is one of the most important things. RSVP. Period. Whether you are attending or not you must let your host know. Most hosts are trying to figure out headcounts for vendors and it’s crucial to get the right number both for financial and logistical reasons. Guests should never add plus ones or extra guests (children included) to their RSVP unless those people have been specifically indicated on the invitation. (“Ms. Christine Williams and Mr. Kamal Metta & Family” means the kids are invited. “Ms. Christine Williams and Mr. Kamal Metta” with no indication of family are being invited as a couple not as a family.)
AM: Are there new rules regarding etiquette?
LP: No, there really aren’t many “new rules” in wedding etiquette. While it’s not a rule, one thing that is emerging is phone-free weddings and not posting tons of wedding pictures before the happy couple has a chance to.
AM: Tell us about your partnership with Marshalls and how this is fitting for wedding gifting?
LP: I have been very excited to partner with Marshalls this wedding season because it is one of my go-to places for wedding gifts. Everything is always new and fresh when I go in and with all the different departments it’s easy to find something special for the couple that I’m excited to give. One of my favorite gifts this summer has been luggage and travel accessories! Everyone thinks to give to the honeyfund, but luggage ends up being a real lifesaver when it comes time to pack!
AM: Does Marshalls have a registry and if not how can brides be kept in the loop on items that they can cross off their list?
LP: Marshalls does not have a registry, but it’s perfectly appropriate to shop off registry (the registry is there as a suggestion and to help guests who might have a hard time thinking of a gift). This is one of those awkward etiquette places where practicality tries not to step on the toes of surprise. If you don’t send the gift immediately, you can always let someone close to the bride know that the item has been purchased at another store and therefore to remove it from the registry. It’s a little awkward telling the couple themselves and then not sending the gift until after the wedding (or bringing it to the wedding). Instead it’s fine to the let the mother of the bride (or the appropriate alternative) or a member of the bridal party know, and ask that they let the bride and groom know the item has been taken care of.
If you send the gift immediately after purchasing, then the couple will receive it and know to cross it off the registry list. You can add a note with a gift receipt if you’d like letting them know it was purchased off registry, that way they know to remove the item from the registry.
Don’t worry too much about repeated gifts, the couple will likely have to deal with a few returns anyway.

Unless you have been in seclusion, Crazy Rich Asians was released the middle of this month and has become a blockbuster movie, that not only showcases the representation of Asians in mainstream film, luxury and a number of storylines from dating, shopping and meeting your loved ones parents!
We're introduced to Rachel and Nick, who have been dating for a while. This summer he wants to take her to his home in Singapore for a friend’s wedding as well as to meet his family. The couple has no worries about spending the summer traveling together. His family, who are “crazy rich” (ridiculously beyond rich) are concerned that Nick is going to propose to someone who they have not vetted and is not from a “good” family.
It's clear that the movie does justice to the book. For those that have seen the film and have yet to read the novel which is a trilogy, it's time to go back and pick up where it all began and then continue on to the other novels: China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People's Problems.

Are you a pet lover? Have you ever wanted to experience the adventure together with your pet?
Ireland is a good country for you and your adored pet to get on a road trip. If this is the first time that you’re planning a trip together with your pet then you might need some extra preparation, check the tips below to see if you got everything covered:
1) Get Insured. Just so you can put your mind at ease and enjoy the rest of your trip with your buddy, get insured! Better be safe than sorry, as they say. You can get car insurance for assistance during unexpected scenarios such as engine breakdown or vehicular accidents. Additionally, you can get travel insurance for you and your pet as well so that you fully covered in case something happens to you.
2) Visit Pet-Friendly Destinations. Your pet surely enjoys seeing you having fun with all the destinations you’re going to. But, wouldn’t it be better if you look at your pet having the time of his life with pet-friendly places? There are beaches in Ireland which welcome animals as guests, such as the Curracloe Beach, Cwm Yr Eglwys Beach and Courtown Beach. Your pet will surely enjoy walking on the beach and lounging around while watching people and other pets too.
3) Bring Pet Equipment. Did you think that humans are the only ones who need gears? Your pet needs gear as well! Equip him with a sturdy leash and a poop bag if you can to reduce the waste as you travel. A sturdy leash will keep him in control and close to you. Bring your pet’s favorite toys to keep calm him and keep him pre-occupied in the case the throws tantrums during the trip.
4) Stay in a Pet-Friendly Route. If your pet gets scared by darkness or an environment filled with forests, it’s best to drive along the road and in the open so that your pet won’t get easily scared as he watches his surroundings change. Seeing the sky and the ground will probably give your pet some familiarity and joy as he sits by your side in the passenger’s seat.
5) Train Your Pet Prior Your Trip. By bringing your pet on a road trip, you are letting him mingle with other people and other animals. If your pet is not used to this kind of environment, it might cause a problem. Your pet might probably curl up and be sad for the rest of the day or throw tantrums.
Furthermore, he might misbehave in public places. It’s best to accustom your pet in a public environment as well as train him to behave in a good manner to avoid any problems. That will also increase your pet’s excitement and chances of getting some treats from you and from the new friends you’ll make as you go with your journey.
Before heading to any road trip in Ireland, get car insurance that’s cheap and got you covered in case of emergencies and unexpected scenarios! You can easily get a quotation from AA Ireland. Getting car insurance ensures not only for your car’s safety but for you and your pet’s as well.
A few weeks ago, we met Chef Seamus Mullen at the Olive Oils from Spain where he kicked off the Olive Oil World Tour. Known for Spanish cooking and his love of olive oil, we talked with this restaurateur of Whirlybird + Greens and El Colmado and author of Real Food Heals. He shared why olive oil is so important to him, being a fitness enthusiast and his commitment to giving back via Chefs Cycle to ensure that he fights child hunger.
ATHLEISURE MAG: Tell us about how you got into cooking and decided this was a field that you wanted to work in.
CHEF SEAMUS MULLEN: Growing up on a farm I was always around really good ingredients, in fact both of my grandmothers were excellent cooks and I started cooking at a really young age with them. When I got into high school and needed a Summer job to earn money, I started working in a pizzeria and that was really the beginning of being around food for me professionally. After college, I threw myself into professional cooking and I’ve been doing it ever since.
AM: We love olive oil - tell us about how you embraced it from a cooking perspective?
CSM: Olive oil was something that we always had in the house, growing up, but we only used it for vinaigrettes. When I was 17 I went to Spain for a year abroad and lived with a Spanish family that was totally food-obsessed. Being in the kitchen with my host mother really turned me on to how fundamentally important olive oil is to Spanish cuisine and I totally fell in love.
AM: How did you connect with Olive Oils from Spain?
CSM: I’ve spent a fair amount of my career in Spain and I think it would be fair to say that Olive oil is really the foundation of Spanish cuisine. My early love for the olive oils of Spain has stayed with me throughout my career and I really can’t imagine cooking without it.
AM: What are the benefits of utilizing olive oil for health reasons?
CSM: There are so many health benefits of cooking with olive oil, from its anti-oxidant properties, to its naturally anti-inflammatory qualities, it’s a fundamental ingredient in the healthy kitchen. As an oil that is high in monounsaturated fat, olive oil helps the body produce healthy cholesterol. And most importantly, it’s incredibly delicious!
AM: Tell us about your restaurant in NYC and what are some of your favorite dishes that are perfect for the summer.
CSM: Summer in NYC is all about the produce. We get some remarkable fruits and vegetables this time of year. Lately I’ve really been into a very simple salad of sliced peaches with herbs, fresh ricotta cheese, a sprinkle of sea salt and a healthy dose of extra virgin olive oil from Spain.
AM: We have done various interviews with Chefs Cycle and know that you participated in this - how important is it for you to be involved in philanthropic/wellness events of this nature?
CSM: I think it’s really important to give back. As a chef, our job is to feed people and with 1 in 3 kids facing food insecurity in the US I feel compelled to work to fix what is a solvable problem. It also has the added benefit of getting chefs out and moving and healthier!
AM: What is it about cycling that you enjoy and what other workouts do you enjoy doing in addition to this?
CSM: Cycling has been a part of my life for a really long time and there’s so much I love about it. First and foremost, riding a bike is fun! It’s also a great way to get around, in fact I go pretty much every where in the city by bicycle. If I’m riding my mountain bike, it’s my meditation, I’m focused just on the moment, taking the woods, the trees, the outdoors. On the road bike it tends to be a bit more social, riding with friends, taking a break from the hectic pace of the city. And, of course, it’s the best way to see another country! I love cycling in Europe, riding through vineyards and olive orchards.
AM: If we were planning a culinary trip to Spain - where are 3 regions that we should go to and where/what should we eat?
CSM: I would definitely go to Catalunya, and not just Barcelona, but check out La Costa Brava, some of the most beautiful coastline in the world and delicious, delicious food.
Then head up into the Pyrenees for a completely different experience, it’s very alpine, the mountains are gorgeous and the food is hearty and delicious. And then I’d head down to the coast and take a trip west. Skip the Basque Country (because everyone knows how great the food is there) and head to Galicia for the best seafood in all of Spain.
AM: You made a simple dressing that was olive oil based, can you share this recipe with us?
CSM: I always make my dressings in this ration: 1/3 vinegar to 2/3 Olive oil. For this vinaigrette I whisked together 1/3 cup of sherry or red wine vinegar with the juice and zest of 1 lemon. Added a drizzle of honey, 1 clove of garlic grated on a micro plane, some sea salt and pepper. Then drizzle in 2/3 cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Spain and you’ve got a delicious vinaigrette that is perfect on a simple salad or drizzled over some grilled vegetables.

In this month's Something You Should Know, we're focusing on Diabetes Awareness and how one of NASCAR's stars, Ryan Reed has navigated this disease and continues to advance in his sport, work with his doctor and to loop in his racing team.
ATHLEISURE MAG: We grew up watching motorsports and primarily Formula 1 as our Co-Founder is from Indianapolis and upon entering college, began enjoying watching NASCAR. How did you get into racing?
RYAN REED: My dad raced in NASCAR. I grew up in California which was kind of difference because racing wasn’t as popular there as it is in other parts of the country. There was still quite a bit of racing and of course, I loved it – love being at the track and being like dad. I started racing go carts and by the time I was 10 or 11, it was a lot more than just a hobby and it was something that I wanted to pursue as a career and to be a professional race car driver. I kind of kept climbing through racing and finally got to where I am today, which is a dream come true, being able to race fulltime in NASCAR.
AM: Can you tell us about the cars that race in NASCAR for those that may not be familar with the sport?
RR: In NASCAR, we have big heavy cars with not a lot of tire. So basically, we have a lot of horse power in our stock cars that don’t handle as good so our cornering speeds aren’t as high and our straight line speed is just as high because we don’t have a lot of force.
AM: What your next race?
RR: I have been racing fulltime in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a number of years now so we’re a little past the half way point, about 2/3 with playoffs starting soon. So I'm getting ready for our playoffs to start and our post season. I'm getting ready for our Championship. Our season is far from over as we’re in the back half of it, but it’s in full swing right now and about to get even busier as our playoffs get here.
AM: How many hours do you spend when you’re training in the car versus fitness training outside of the car?
RR: I’d say on an average week, I don't really have that because each track is so different that a test session isn’t really applicable unless you go to that track and test it out. We do have like a Fri practice for a couple of hours, we qualify and then we race. It’s very important because it’s very limited time and our preparation before we get to the track whether the team side is preparing cars and running simulation and we have a lot of technology to set our race cars up and computer based information and as drivers, being in the gym as much as possible is about strength training and a lot of endurance training. Obviously, our races are 2.5 hours long and sometimes longer and having endurance based training is really important for us. We also have simulators that are like a video game, but a lot more advanced than that so that we can practice our craft. That’s something that has come along in the past 5-10 years that has helped everyone to get more seat time during the week.
AM: When were you diagnosed with diabetes?
RR: For me being diagnosed at 17 in 2011, so 7 years ago, I was a little different and it took me a little longer to get back in the car because when I was diagnosed, I was told that I would never race again. I had to find an endocrinologist that works with a lot of other athletes. She was the one that turned things around for me. She showed me a couple of things that I could still follow my dreams and how important it is to work with my doctor. Even today, she is a crucial part in my diabetes management and for sure, a critical part in getting me out there every weekend on the race track.
AM: What makes diabetes a challenge for someone that is participating in this sport?
RR: There is a lot going on that people don’t understand and for us, we have to deal with something that not many drivers have to deal with which is a changing blood sugar level. It’s all about preparation. Know you diet, know your body – use a Continuos Glucose Monitoring System that we can track where our blood sugar is going before the race and during the race as it mounted in the race car and we have a drink bottle with what we need in there if we need to use that. There are all kinds of things that we have that we can use to make sure everything is safe and that we’re as prepared as possible for the race ahead of us.
AM: Do you have to educate your crews that you work with and how does that work?
RR: I have worked with the same race team for 5 years now. My doctor spent a lot of time as I entered the world of NASCAR with Roush Fenway to get with the team and to work closely with NASCAR’s medical team to get them comfortable with what I was doing to get prepared to get in the race car each week. What I was doing while I was in the car to manage the diabetes and to work with the race team and the whole team knows what’s going on and knows a lot more about diabetes now than what they did before I came on. I think that all of that just shows how important my doctor is to my success and to my diabetes management.
AM: You have partnered with Eli Lilly for awhile now to share their Diabetes inititiave - what is that like?
RR: It’s been a cool program to be with as I won at Daytona and wore the Eli Lilly colors. A few years later, I was in the #teamdiabetes stories and people responded well to it. As a race car driver living this high intensity lifestyle that might be a little bit different then what people expect us to be doing and sharing it through the program is great.
AM: What should we keep an eye out for with this initiative?
RR: Eli Lilly will release a cool 5 part series on NASCAR’s YouTube channel and gives people a feel for my story. The Road to Road America is what it is called and you can find out more at DriveDownA1C.com.

We happened to be on our IG feed and saw Sol De Janeiro’s most excited video! We have been fans of all the products for years and we religiously use their Bum Bum Cream which makes your skin feel so soft, has a bit of shimmer and of course, the smell is amazing with the mixture of Cupuacu, Acai and Coconut Oil. We’re obsessed with the scents of Pistachio and Salted Caramel which just a yummie combination.
The large Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream that we have come to love has just gotten better with their newest size and limited edition - dropping today, you can get the supersize version for $75 which is 500/ml. It’s kind of like Christmas coming early and your skin will thank you for it!
