PREWORKOUT ROUTINES YOU SHOULD FOLLOW TO GET THE MOST OUR OF YOUR TRAINING SESSIONS

Regardless of your age, staying fit and healthy is extremely important. This means getting the most out of purposeful training, to keep your mind and body active and strong. While a structured exercise can be useful for losing weight and trimming your body, you should never make a mistake of trying to do too much without getting a pre-workout session.

Primarily, a pre-workout refers to an exercise one has to perform before they proceed to any strenuous physical activity. It can help prepare your muscles to be stretched or your body to be primed before a total workout.

If you’re looking to maximize your training, below are the pre-workout routines you should follow from the get-go:

  1. Get Enough Sleep The Night Before Your Training Sessions

Similar to other aspects of your life, getting enough sleep is also essential when doing a workout. When you have a good sleep at night, you’re able to provide your body and brain enough energy once you wake up. In other words, sleep can be regarded as a form of recovery. Therefore, if you’re planning a total workout the next day, make sure you’ve adequately slept. If you have enough sleep, you have high energy and good focus during your workout. 2. Eat Healthy Foods Before The Workout

●      Aerobics – This warm-up requires a bit of sweat. When you perform some aerobics, it means spending at least five minutes on a stationary bike, treadmill, and the like.

●      Warm Up through Movements – Prepare the muscles you’re going to use for the heavy workout by warming up through movement. This means performing some compound lightweight or bodyweight movements to make your shoulders, wrists, and knees warm and ready.

THE REBIRTH OF AMERICA'S PLAYGROUND: HOW ATLANTIC CITY IS COMING BACK STRONG IN 2020

There are beach towns and then there is the quintessential beach town. 

The quintessential beach city, to be exact. 

Since the first tourist train arrived on July 5, 1854, Atlantic City, New Jersey has served as the Mid-Atlantic region’s crown jewel of oceanside amusement. Situated an hour outside of Philadelphia and two hours from New York City, It’s always been a perfect reverse bedroom community for big city leisure seekers.

Nowadays, some 27 million annual visitors flock to the resort and entertainment hub. Some come for the sun and sand. Others come for the gaming thrills.  

Six years ago, however, the future of Atlantic City was in serious peril.

A Casino-Sized Collapse

Atlantic City is a place of firsts. 

The world’s first boardwalk opened here in 1870, leading to the nickname “America’s Playground”. The city was the birthplace of saltwater taffy 13 years later. Streets like Baltic Avenue and St. James Place inspired the classic board game Monopoly. 

Atlantic City became the first US city outside of Las Vegas to welcome casinos in 1978.

In 2014, Atlantic City’s casinos experienced their worst economic year in the 36-year history of the industry. Five of the city’s 12 casinos shuttered in a two-year period as tourism and revenue dwindled, resulting in the loss of 11,000 jobs.  

The downturn sent ripples through Atlantic City as restaurants, spas, shops, and entertainment venues connected to the casinos also closed. Development projects ground to a halt. 

Skeptics saw the events of 2014-2016 as a curtain call for the community as we know it. But Atlantic City is a phoenix, rising time and again throughout its history from crushing circumstances. 

Now, recent developments in the casino, higher education, and residential sectors illustrate how the city is bouncing back in a big way in 2020.

Gaming Rebounds

Two casino resort openings in June 2018 signaled a strong rebound for Atlantic City’s gaming industry. 

Following a $500-million facelift, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City took over the building formerly occupied by Trump Taj Mahal. The modernly-appointed facility boasts 2,000 guest rooms, 150,000 square feet of meeting space, and a live entertainment venue. 

Ocean Casino Resort moved into the previous site of Revel Casino Hotel Atlantic City and the city’s most recent casino. Designed to rival the posh resort casinos of Las Vegas, Revel opened to fanfare in 2012. It operated just over two years before a pair of bankruptcies led to a swift demise. 

Ocean Casino resort is home to 130,000 square feet of gaming space, 1,300 upscale guest rooms, over 15 signature restaurants, and a variety of entertainment shows.  

Atlantic City casinos are also diversifying their offerings to attract visitors back to America’s Playground. 

For example, a recent influx in New Jersey and Pennsylvania of online sportsbooks offering NFL betting and other sports is forcing casinos to offer similar options. The casinos responded by opening on-premise sportsbooks that partner with online counterparts to create integrated betting experiences.

School is in Session

Stockton University’s new Atlantic City campus marks another success story in the rebuild.

Opened for fall 2018, Stockton occupies a three-story building for 1,800 students at the former location of Atlantic City High School at the city’s southern edge. A 553-bed dorm facility for students stands across Atlantic Avenue at a site previously occupied by Mayfair Apartments and President Motor Lodge.

The campus was made possible by investments from the Atlantic County Improvement Authority, New Jersey state authorities, and the university. 

It also marks a special homecoming--Stockton’s first classes were held in Atlantic City’s Mayfair Hotel before the main campus in nearby Galloway Township launched in 1971. 

Residential Rejuvenation

Residential construction was one of the hardest-hit sectors in 2014. A new redevelopment zone of multi-family housing in the Marina District indicates the slump is over. 

A plan announced in July 2019 paves the way for MGM Resorts International and Boraie Development to build 200 luxury condo units on a 14-acre waterfront site adjacent to the Golden Nugget Casino Hotel. 

Developers hope the project attracts affluent buyers from New York City and Philadelphia interested in purchasing leisure beach property. According to MGM attorney Jack Plackter, the project is a first for Atlantic City. 

“The second home market is an opportunity the city has never been able to take advantage of”, Plackter explained.

TOP WAYS TO AVOID BOREDOM WHILE WORKING OUT

While some people love working out and can let exercise take over their entire consciousness, most of us need a distraction to keep us entertained and avoid ennui.

If you are looking for fresh ways to keep your mind occupied during your next workout, here are some suggestions to put into practice.

Play a game

If you are exercising at home or at the gym, it is not unreasonable to assume that you will both have access to a smartphone and also have a place to put it so that it is within easy reach while you are working out. With a suitable setup, you can easily play a host of mobile games, many of which are designed for simple touch-screen interactions and do not require you to do anything too complex with your fingers while the rest of your body is occupied.

For example, you could pick up a turn-based title like Blizzard’s popular card game-battler Hearthstone, which will give you plenty of time to get in a few reps while your enemy is planning their next move. You could also play slots on sites like Casumo, giving you access to thousands of options for reel-spinning action.

Basically the only rule about gaming while working out is that you should avoid anything which requires too much concentration or is reliant on split-second responses, as this will only get in the way of your exercise.

Listen to a podcast

Podcasts can be better than music as a workout accompaniment, because if they are engaging enough then you will be entirely focused on what the hosts and guests are saying, rather than worrying about how tired you are getting or how much further you have to go.

In terms of the podcasts you pick, the world is very much your oyster, with over a million shows available to download and stream today. Big-hitters that are specifically themed around exercise and healthy living include Run, Selfie, Repeat, The Rambling Runner and TED Talks Health. Comedy phenomenons that will leave you in stitches rather than giving you a stitch include My Dad Wrote A Porno and Comedy Bang Bang. If you want a podcast to expand your mind, then try out NPR’s Hidden Brain or Waking Up with Sam Harris.

If you want to be really smart about it, picking a podcast that suits the intended length of your workout can be a good move, as it will give you an endpoint to strive towards.

Change your routine

One of the things which is most likely to cause boredom during a workout is if you are repeating the same old sets of exercises and generally falling into the usual rut that you have established for yourself.

A sensible way to overcome this is to always try to do something different whenever you are getting your heart rate up, while also remembering to track your progress over time so that you can actually see how far you have come for all the effort that you have put in.

There are tons of workout apps that can not only monitor your performance and reveal improvements that you have made, but also provide you with the suggestions you need to spice up your exercising and help you to take a break from a routine that has become boring.

Of course you can also get advice and guidance from a personal trainer if you are out of ideas, or choose to take up a team sport as your preferred form of exercise, as this can be more mentally engaging than training solo. Whatever you do, do not neglect your brain while your muscles are getting all the attention.

When playing any sport, you have to get properly equipped and prepared. Unlike popular opinions, this is not only a matter of looking good while exercising and training. It is a matter of staying safe, protected, and on top of the game at all times. The right gear influences not only keeps you free of injuries, but also your overall skills and technique.

We all know that certain activities can get rough and tough sometimes, especially when it comes to team sports. People assume that you don’t need any special gear for your morning run, but what I have found out by reading a large number of reviews on different gear is that every physical activity requires some sort of equipment, as this page shows us.

Why Do Athletes Need Special Equipment?

If you believe that certain types of equipment exist only for athletes to show them off and that they don’t have any special purposes, then you must be new to sports. Every experienced sportsperson knows that proper equipment is essential for various reasons. Before I get to telling you what reading reviews about specific athletic gear has thought me, I want to be sure that you know the overall purpose of all the equipment.

When you start doing your research and reading all the necessary reviews, you will see that with each and every sport comes a list of essential equipment. A football coach will require you to get different things than a basketball coach. Even if you simply want to start going to the gym, you’ll find that you cannot do it without proper gear.

Listen to what these reviews are saying. They definitely aren’t trying to make you buy some unnecessary things just so that you spend money. It’s not like your money is going in their pockets, and they don’t have any hidden agendas. The reason every review insists on proper equipment is because it will enhance your performance, enable you to progress more quickly, and protect you in the process.

Injuries are very common among athletes, and I have no doubt that you want to avoid them if you can. The best way to avoid them is to start playing it safe from the beginning, and playing it safe means gearing up. This is especially important if you are a parent of a child who is starting to play a sport. You don’t want them to lose motivation because they keep getting injured. You don’t want them to get injured at all.

What Are The Must Haves According To Reviews?

Now that I have explained why equipment is necessary, it’s time tell you about the most essential things you will need to have when engaging in any sport whatsoever. These came out as winners since almost all the reviews I have read listed them as essentials. Keep in mind that the list I will give you below is not complete, but it is a good place to start. If, later on, you get really serious about a certain sport, the best thing to do is deepen your research and read many different reviews on all the equipment you will need for that sport.

Most importantly, this is a budget-friendly list, which means that you won’t have to spend a fortune in order to get prepared. Naturally, some investment is necessary, but what multiple reviews have taught me is that you never start with the most expensive stuff. Once again, if you begin thinking about doing something professionally, you will need to make bigger investments.

Helmets

It’s not by accident that helmets are usually found on top of the list of every review I have read so far. Almost all sports carry a risk of head injury. Even though most people see this piece of equipment as optional, if you want to reduce the risk of dangerous concussions and similar head injuries, you will have to think about protecting yourself with a helmet. When it comes to children, this becomes even more important, since those childhood concussions can leave some serious consequences.

While every sport requires different pieces of equipment, as Sports Gratitude explains, a helmet should be a top priority for most of them. Cycling, skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, and many more activities call for wearing a helmet. Disregarding it is not only irresponsible, but also dangerous, especially if you are a beginner. If all the people reviewing sports gear have decided to put helmets on top of the list, it must mean something.

Safety Pads And Guards

The next thing that reviews have showed me is that pads are always essential, and especially so if you are engaging in contact sports, including football, lacrosse, hockey, and more. Individual sports also require the use of safety pads and guards. That means that you shouldn’t think about buying them only if you are practicing a team sport. Generally, any physical activity will be much safer with these.

The type of pads you will get, however, does depend on the sport. You cannot cover your whole body with these protective pieces. There are shin, neck, chest, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, thighs and knee pads. In order to make sure that you are buying the right type for you, I suggest you find reviews focusing on specific sports and specific pads.

Proper Footwear

Superstitions are part of our lives, and we all know one ore more, maybe even had them once. The reason is that we give so much power to our mind. Thus, we are letting a random belief based on luck or other forces – either irrational, supernatural or unscientific – let us guide to success or protect us from evil happenings.

You may not believe it, but the tarot reading is very popular these days among superstitious people. In fact, for centuries this has been a very popular and powerful mean of fortune-telling. Nowadays, it is practiced widely in the United States and Canada.

Many athletes are also superstitious. Some perform rituals before the game or during it – either in individual or team sports -, and even have lucky objects. There are countless stories, some of them unbelievable, of rituals and superstitions in sports.

Performing a ritual is part of the athlete’s belief that a behavior or action may influence their performance. And there are a lot of athletes who are convinced that these rituals are improving their performance, so they perpetuate them.

There are different rituals. The most commons are related to an object – wearing certain clothes, or consuming certain foods or drinks. The way they perform in the warm-up or the music they listen in the hours before the game or match are also part of the rituals.

Superstitions are a different thing. Some athletes tend to connect good or bad performance to a cause, so superstitions arise after reviewing the facts in the period before the event. This way, they begin to act following certain patterns which they think influence the performance, and recreate those circumstances.

The most important part of the rituals and superstitions for an athlete is the fact that they impact the belief system. In this way it is improved their psychological state during the games in terms of control and confidence. In fact, sports psychology says that, if you believe that doing a specific action will improve the performance, that is likely to happen.

Bottom line, hard training, raw talent, performing under stress, a balanced life and a balanced diet are a huge part of an athlete success, but some big stars need that extra something to get to the success.

Here are the most superstitious athletes:

1.     Turk Wendell

The former American baseball player has many superstitions. He leaps over the baselines when walking to the mound, chews black licorice while pitching, and brushes his teeth between innings. He also wanted to honor his uniform number 99, by asking an offer of $9,999,999.99 from the New York Mets, back in 2000.

2.     Lyoto Machida

The Brazilian MMA fighter says that he drinks his own urine every day, after removing the toxins. He has 26 wins and 9 losses, and claims that his father, a karate master, used the same superstition. The Brazilian thinks that the urine is a natural medicine that cleans the body.

3.     Sergio Goycochea

The former Argentine soccer goalkeeper claimed that his very good record at saving penalties comes from urinating on the field. Goycochea mentioned that nobody complained about his superstition.

4.     Serena Williams

The greatest tennis player in the history of the WTA has many superstitions. Some of them is wearing the same pair of socks while winning in a tournament and wearing the shower sandals to the matches.

5.     Michael Jordan

The greatest of all time in basketball also had a superstition during the games. Michael Jordan wore his University of North Carolina uniform under his Chicago Bulls uniform at every game.

WHAT ALTERNATIVE PAIN REMEDIES CAN YOU USE WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK?

When people think of pain relief, they often think of over-the-counter anti-pain medications, like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. However, there are actually other alternative pain remedies you can use that won’t cost you an arm or a leg. Some of these may even be found within your own fridge and pantry.

Here are some of these alternatives you can use:

1)    Kratom

The Kratom is a Southeast Asian tree from the evergreen family. The tree is a cousin of the coffee plant. Its pain-relieving property is actually found in the tree’s leaves.

This product is said to help alleviate pain and helps with anxiety, panic attacks, and helps suppress appetite as well.

In addition to that, these are the medical conditions that Kratom is used for:

●      Pain

●      High blood pressure

●      Diarrhea

●      Diabetes

●      Depression

●      Cough

Raw Kratom leaves are chewed or brewed as a tea to serve as a euphoriant and to improve physical endurance. Kratom is also taken to improve sexual performance and protect the patient from the effects of opiate withdrawal. The reason why Kratom for pain is effective is because of the chemical mitragynine.

You can also take this substance to reduce inflammation due to exercise and to help hasten your recovery. Sliced ginger root can be boiled into a tea or added in your dishes as an additional ingredient.

You may find it interesting that turmeric, which is a close relative of ginger root, is also considered a good anti-inflammatory. So, you may try using either ginger or turmeric or even both at the same time when they’re boiled into a tea. If you find the tea a tad strong, you may add some sugar or honey to improve the taste.

6)    Cloves

This is another pain reliever you can find in the vegetable or herbs and seasoning section of your local supermarket. It’s usually used to help with toothaches and possible other pain-related ailments.

WELCOME TO WINGED FOOT - GOLF'S ULTIMATE TEST

There is a very real sense that the U.S. Open is the hardest golf tournament to win anywhere on the planet.

It is hosted by those crafty devils at the USGA, who handpick only the toughest courses around to ensure that the test for the sport’s best players is suitably challenging. This is not a place for newcomers to golf to be learning their craft.

The Masters is played at the same course, Augusta National, every year, which tends to make life easier for those returning on an annual basis, while the British Open is largely defined by the weather on those coastal Links courses – if it’s benign, typically these layouts are considerably easier to manage.

But the US Open is routinely played out on courses that are tough in all sorts of weather and, this year Winged Foot GC in Mamaroneck, New York looks set to follow in that fine tradition. It is one of the few golf courses to feature on the National Register of Historic Places, and has so far hosted six majors, two women’s U.S. Opens, a U.S. Senior Open and the grind that is the U.S. Amateur. The 2006 U.S Open produced one of the most amazing finishes in major history, too. The east coast is blessed with a number of top tracks, including PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, but Winged Foot is arguably the jewel in the crown.

The scene is set for a fascinating renewal in 2020 then, and the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed will be among the favorites to lift the trophy in the U.S. Open 2020 betting odds from Betway in which Brooks Koepka is the +800 market leader. The tournament will be broadcast live on ESPN in the USA and other networks around the world, and here's what spectators – and the players – can expect from the devilish Winged Foot.

Carnage on the Eighteenth

When analyzing a golf tournament and trying to predict what will unfold, it is always smart to take a look back at what has happened at a specific course in the past. And on that front, players looking back to the 2006 U.S. Open could be forgiven for fearing the worst.

The Australian, Geoff Ogilvy, took the spoils in the end with a score of +5, which remains as one of the highest winning marks in a major to this day. It could have been so different but for the 72nd hole mayhem that saw three contenders for the crown – Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Colin Montgomerie – all have their dreams shattered.

Mickelson led the way heading into the final round on the Sunday, but a shaky start to his 18 saw Ogilvy capture the lead. As the drama unfolded, all four of the players already mentioned had a chance to win, and as they played out the 72nd hole – which is known, a touch masochistically, as "Revelations" – each challenger fell away under the intense spotlight.

Montgomerie had a chance to apply some pressure at the final hole, but a wayward approach shot left him short of the green on the Par 4 hole. A duffed chip led to three disastrous putts, and that double-bogey ended the Scot’s hopes of a major triumph. Furyk then missed a five-footer for par on the last, while Mickelson – playing in the final group – also double-bogeyed Revelations after his tee shot landed in the rough.

As is often the case at the wire in golf tournaments, opportunity came a-knocking and Ogilvy answered the call. The Aussie chipped in from off-the-green on seventeen, before a clutch putt on the last gave him his first – and only – major victory.

As for the other three, well, they probably still shudder at the mention of the name Winged Foot to this very day.

Golf’s Maniacal Master Architect

Behind every golf course there is an architect that draws up the designs for the layout, and the man responsible for Winged Foot is the rather maniacal A.W. Tillinghast.

He began designing golf courses at the turn of the twentieth century and, all told, the Tillinghast name has been accredited with more than 250 designs around the world. A number of these have been used as the host venue for a major, including Cedar Crest Park in Dallas, Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, and Hermitage Country Club in Richmond, Virginia to name just three.

But it is Winged Foot that will always be considered Tillinghast’s masterwork, with its staggering 514-yard Par 4 ninth and the behemoth 640-yard twelfth testing the skills of its plucky challengers off the tee and on approach into awkward, sloping greens.

Inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame in 2015, A.W. Tillinghast’s long legacy in the sport is assured, and modern-day players and fans will be able to get a glimpse of his magnum opus at the US Open in 2020.

FRENCH OPEN MASTER RAFA NADAL FANCIED TO DOMINATE AT ROLAND GARROS AGAIN

The French Open is one of the highlights of the annual tennis calendar. This Grand Slam tournament on the clay courts of Roland Garros in Paris always illuminates the City of Light.

One tennis player more than any other has become synonymous with the French Open. Rafael Nadal is virtually unbeatable on this surface. His phenomenal Roland Garros record speaks for itself.

Nadal has won all but three of the last 15 French Open men's singles titles, so oddsmakers naturally make the king of clay himself a hot favorite for the men's singles. The 12-time champ is odds-on at 10/11 in the outright tennis betting on the tournament once again this year.

Austria's Dominic Thiem - a beaten finalist in each of the last two years at Roland Garros - joins previous winner Novak Djokovic as 3/1 joint-second favorites. The Serbian, who has won five of the last seven Grand Slam crowns on offer, has had just one previous French Open success in 2016, and that came when Nadal withdrew through injury. 

Bar those three, it is double-figure prices for any other men's singles competitor to reign in Paris. All-time men's singles Grand Slam record-holder Roger Federer has often skipped Roland Garros in recent years, so it remains to be seen whether we will see the Swiss superstar at the French Open again.

The way the market is shaping up suggests that we are short of clay-court specialists and everyone remains in thrall to the master Nadal. It isn't exactly difficult to make a strong case for the Spaniard who treats the Roland Garros show courts like a second home.

Like the WTA Tour as a whole, the French Open women's singles usually has a far more open feel to it. Romanian pro Simona Halep has been one of the more consistent players of recent years and reached three Roland Garros finals in the last six years.

She is made a nominal 9/2 favorite in the futures betting this time around but has only cleared the last hurdle in Paris once. Ashleigh Barty, meanwhile, is WTA world number one after winning the Tour Finals last fall.

The Australian also landed a first Grand Slam with French Open success in 2019. At 9/1, the only note of caution about Barty is her run at Roland Garros last year was very easy as she only defeated one fellow seeded player in the entire draw.

Time is running out for Serena Williams to add to her three French Open wins and secure that record-equalling 24th Grand Slam to match Margaret Court's all-time best haul. She turns 39 during the tournament but is the only other woman priced at shorter than 10/1 to be champion on clay. 

Also, a straight-sets defeat of Serena put Canadian tennis talent Bianca Andreescu on the map, so she could be one of the players to watch out for in future tennis tournaments.

TREATING A SPORT INJURY WITH PHYSICAL THERAPY

Injuries typically affect the bones, muscles, or tissues, including tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. Participation in proper strengthening, stretching, and training sessions are vital components when participating in any activity as a means to prevent injury.

Injuries Associated With Sports  Treated Using Physical Therapy

Among the typical injuries associated with sports are those caused by overuse, such as tennis elbow for players who stress their forearm muscles repeatedly. The issue affects any athlete, not only those who are runners. 

Prevention through quadriceps strengthening and the use of footwear that provides the proper support will keep the kneecap in alignment within the center of the groove. Quadriceps stretch and massage are types of physical therapy treatment for this condition, which results in the muscle fibers stretching and alleviating the kneecap from pulling up. Also, the use of anti-inflammatories and ice may be of benefit.

The shoulder is an extremely fragile part of the body, making up quite a few problems for the sporting arena. The rotator cuff muscles hold together the shoulder bones and promote the fine movement. For sports where throwing/hitting are the primary focus, such as tennis, volleyball, baseball, golf, and so on, in addition to swimming and weight training, the shoulder joint has continual stress, and the rotator cuff muscles stretch. When these muscles stretch, the joint head loosens in the socket. 

If the arm raises, the biceps tendon has the potential to catch between the ball and socket, resulting in shoulder impingement and tendon inflammation. Rotator cuff strengthening allows the joint to stay in the socket for the prevention of this issue.

The Achilles deems the largest tendon in the body connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone and is the reason that the heel can lift off the ground. When there is tendon overuse, it has the potential for tendonitis and inflammation, particularly with sports where jumping or running is the concentration, including basketball or skiing. The Achilles can tear with excessive pronation of the foot and ankle with subsequent pain described along the lines of a gunshot wound.

Treatment can include rest, ice, compression, and elevation, anti-inflammatories, stretching with tears having the possibility of surgical repair. Strengthening the muscles, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes, will assist with prevention.
