3 COMMON SKIN INFECTIONS IN ATHLETES AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM

Skin infections are led by germs or bacteria that flourish beneath the skin and get in through minor wounds like scratches, cuts, scrapes, and blisters.

Athletes of all ages frequently develop skin infections, especially those participating in high-contact sports like wrestling, mixed martial arts, soccer, or football. Skin-to-skin contact between athletes is the most direct way for infections to spread, but infected items like their uniforms, mat, towels, and equipment can also play a role.

As an athlete or a coach, it's essential to have more news and information about skin infections to prevent them. Many distinct skin lesions, infections, blisters, or sores are frequently present as symptoms; these symptoms should cause an athlete to stop training and competing until a doctor can examine them.

·        Furuncles And Carbuncles: Furuncles and carbuncles are possible manifestations of Staphylococcus aureus. Abscesses on the buttocks are the most common type of solitary abscess.

·        Folliculitis: Individual hair follicles experience the development of tiny, white bumps as a result of folliculitis. These bumps can appear on the scalp, in flexural areas, like underarms, or on the thighs or lower legs. Shaving is a simple way to spread folliculitis.

·        Impetigo: Clusters of red, circular, scaly patches with scalloped borders appear on impetigo patients. These areas may spread quickly throughout 24 to 48 hours and are frequently covered with a golden, honey-colored crust. Unlike the herpes simplex virus, there is no tingling or burning in the area before the development of the patches. Impetigo commonly develops on the lower face, although it can spread rapidly and readily throughout the torso and extremities.

Preventive measures for staph are maintaining proper hygiene by washing hands frequently and drying with a clean towel. If you have open wounds, ensure they are bandaged with sterile, dry gauze.

Furthermore, avoid sharing personal belonging with fellow athletes or friends and wash dirty or used clothes properly with soap and clean water.

2.      Herpes

Herpes is another skin infection common among athletes, and it's caused by the herpes simplex virus infection (HSV).

Among wrestlers, HSV also commonly appears on the neck, torso, and extremities, where it's often called 'herpes gladiatorum.' When it strikes the fingertip, it's called 'herpetic whitlow.'

The symptoms of HSV typically include recurrent clusters of tender, burning blisters around the mouth or lips. A burning or tingling sensation in the infected area may occur before blisters appear.

Blisters usually take 2 to 3 weeks to crust over and heal. Recurrence in the exact location is common because the virus can remain in the skin.

HSV comes in two forms:

·        Oral Herpes: typically affects the mouth and surrounding skin but can also affect the vaginal area; it's brought on by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).

·        Genital Herpes: frequently spreads sexually and is caused by the herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).

Preventive measures for herpes are simple. Use protection when having sex and avoid any sexual activities while symptoms are present. Maintaining good hygiene is also best, like washing hands thoroughly, especially after touching the affected area, during an outbreak. Another good hygiene practice is constantly bathing after every training or competition.

3.      Tinea

Tinea is a typical and contagious fungal skin or nail infection. Since tinea fungus prefers damp and warm environments, it thrives in feet, groins, scalps, under the breasts, and occasionally on the toes and fingernails.

Infections such as tinea can affect many areas of the skin/nails, and they have different names according to their location and type. Among these types are:

·        Fungal infection of the toe or fingernails is known as nail infection (onychomycosis).

·        Body ringworm, also known as tinea corporis, is a fungal illness that appears on the skin's epidermis.

·        Tinea pedis, sometimes known as athlete's foot, is a fungal infection of the skin on the feet.

·        Ringworm of the scalp, also known as tinea capitis, is a fungus that appears on the scalp.

·        A rash in the warm, moist parts of the groin is known as jock itch (tinea cruris).

Preventive measures for tinea is maintaining good personal hygiene. It’s important to wear clean clothes and keep them private. If possible, use clothing that has natural materials and keep your feet and whole body clean and dry before wearing them.

WHAT'S A FLEX IN FANTASY FOOTBALL?

If you’re new to fantasy football or you’re thinking of playing next season, there are some terms that could potentially throw you off. One such term that you hear if you’re a fantasy football player is a flex also called a flex position.

If you don’t completely understand the flex position, it can negatively impact your fantasy results.

A flex is a spot that gives managers in fantasy football flexibility, as indicated by the name. It can be filled by different positions.

As one example, in a lot of standard flex leagues, you can put a running back, tight end, or wide receiver in your flex roster spot.

The following are some other things to know that you may find helpful as you’re figuring out a strategy.

The Basics

Typically, in fantasy football, when you’re filling your starting lineup, you need the following:

·        A quarterback

·        Two running backs

·        Two wide receivers

·        One tight end

·        Defense

·        One kicker

Along with the above positions, there are a lot of leagues that will choose to include a flex player in their starting lineup. This becomes a critical position to win matchups as you move from week to week.

If you join a league using a flex, then your draft can end up becoming a competition to have the most players of the flex position, which again are: a running back, wide receiver, or tight end.

To put it even more simply, the flex position is an additional player in a starting lineup that has to be listed as one of the three positions above. Flex positions can provide an overview of how good a manager is if you assess how they fill this position.

Your flex can end up being integral to your success, or why you lose.

Drafting Flex Players

Your flex player can change from week to week, but as your season unfolds, it’s one of the most important spots in your lineup. With that being said, it’s also your hardest position to fill from matchup to matchup.

As your draft progresses, you only have a finite number of players who are reliable, and you can choose from. There are shortages of these reliable players on a team from week to week. The flex may have to change a lot throughout the season to identify the best matchup.

For flex positions, it’s rare to use a tight end because the running backs and wide receivers are the players with more chances to make plays and also score touchdowns during any given game.

In standard leagues, you can’t play a quarterback in your flex position. These aren’t typically going to be high-scoring players, whereas the expectation with a quarterback is that they’re going to put up the bulk of the points compared to any other position.

Choosing Types of Flex Players

It’s not necessarily realistic to compare a running back to a wide receiver because you have to figure out how many touches the players would get in a game. When deciding on the player you’re going to put in a flex position, there are some people who feel it depends on the type of league.

If you’re in a standard league, the conventional wisdom is that it’s more reliable to put a running back in a flex position because points depend on yardage more so than how many times a player touches the ball.

In a PPR league, a team gets an additional point for each reception a player makes in the game, as well as the yardage gained. If you’re in a PPR league, you might find it more advantageous to use a wide receiver in your flex position because there are more that are going to play during a game, giving more options.

In fantasy football, the best flex players are often the ones that get the most points from running back and wide receiver spots. The flex position frequently revolves around sleepers, who aren’t valued high enough to be high as a draft pick, and instead are picked up off the waiver wire.

If you are able to get multiple players in the same position during your draft, you could use one as a flex.

Some of the players that you’ll often see ranked as being the best flex players include Christian McCaffrey, Cooper Cupp, and Jonathan Taylor.

 Finally, there’s also a super flex format, where you have a flex spot where you can put one running back, one wide receiver, one quarterback, or a tight end, basically meaning in the super flex format, you can start two quarterbacks each week.

KFC – Japan

In English, it means “Kentucky for Christmas”. This marketing campaign was very successful, and has now led to KFC being the popular dinner choice for Christmas day and Christmas eve. Hangi – New Zealand

A Māori Christmas is unique in that it usually involves hangi — a roast dinner cooked in a pit underground, made up of meats and seafood. For large gatherings of family and friends around the holidays, hangi is ideal, as it allows big quantities of food to be prepared at once.

Bacalhau – Brazil & Portugal

The Portuguese salted cod, bacalhau is popular in both Brazil and Portugal. Strangely, bacalhau is not native to Portuguese waters and comes from the coast of Iceland and Norway. Portuguese influences are present in many Christmas menus all over the country, from Portuguese salted cod, bacalhau, to the fried bread dish known as rabanadas. Some in São Paulo may have Italian panettone for dessert, while further south, German-style strudel filled with marzipan and fruits tends to be Brazilians’ go-to sweet dish.

Laufabrauð – Iceland

Strangely, bacalhau is not as popular in Iceland, despite the fact it is caught around here. Iceland and Christmas go hand in hand. At 6pm on Aðfangadagur — Christmas Eve — church bells ring across the country, inviting the faithful to church, while more secular families begin their celebratory meal. The feast might include smoked lamb, ptarmigan, turkey, or pork, and is often served with a flatbread known as laufabrauð, followed by gingerbread. This flatbread is very popular in Iceland at this time of the year.

Christmas Cake – Sri Lanka

Christmas cake was originally bought to Sri Lanka by British colonialists, with the recipe being gradually adapted with locally grown ingredients. Aromatic spices were added, including cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and cardamom — which can also be found in traditional Sri Lankan curries and dhals.

These spices are in addition to dried fruits and nuts like roasted cashews, raisins, sultanas, dates, preserved cherries, and dried orange peel. Finally, jams such as chow chow preserve (made from a South American squash brought over by Dutch invaders) and ginger preserve are mixed in to ensure that the cake is smooth and moist.

The recipe is still popular and served in cafes and restaurants across Sri Lanka in December, with families and friends often getting together to share a slice.

Christmas, of course, falls at the height of a South Africa summer, and Christmas celebrations take advantage of the hot, sunny weather. Most families gather for a braai, which Afrikaner insist is more than a mere cook out — it’s a community event.

Some poets say that unrequited love is the worst possible thing in this world. Maybe you love someone, and you pine for them, but for some reason, you cannot have them. Perhaps you meet someone when you’re young, you connect with them, but then for whatever reason, you two go your separate ways. 

Before the internet, if you lost touch with someone, whether a friend, relative, or romantic love interest, you might struggle to locate them again. Maybe they’re somewhere out there in the world, but you’d have to physically travel to try and find them.

You don’t have to do that much in 2022. If you want to connect with a past love to try and rekindle the spark, you can usually do that much easier. We’ll talk about how you can undertake such a mission right now.

You Can Use a Free Person Lookup Tool

Locating someone from your past might interest you for many reasons. Maybe you have romance in mind, but perhaps you’re trying to find an old friend or colleague. Maybe this person owes you money, and you’ve waited for years to collect.
