We've been fans of SoulCycle for years and were excited when we heard about SoulAnnex, the next evolution in fitness and wellness. The Flatiron location is where top instructors are piloting the latest and most effective off-the-bike classes. The focus of this platform is about elevating the way you move off the bike by strengthening, dancing, stretching and moving the body in a whole new way.

Classes are offered 4-5 days and provide a full 360 approach to training that compliments their on-the-bike programming at SoulCycle. The classes focus on three key training areas.

MOVE: Feel the beat, embrace the rhythm, and experience how energy and momentum can take your workout to the next level. Every move you make is done with and for a purpose:
Choreography, set to epic playlists, revs your heart rate and tones muscles from head to toe. The result is an incredibly fun workout that leaves you breathless and happy.

DEFINE: These total-body sessions utilize body weight, free weights, resistance bands and more to sculpt strong muscles. Drawing on varying modalities like high-intensity interval training and plyometrics, instructors will coach you through each rep to help you unlock
your inner athlete and achieve your highest level of physical fitness.

ALIGN: The perfect balancing supplement to your cardio and strength sessions, our restorative classes stretch, lengthen and rehab overworked muscles. Drawing on disciplines like yoga and Pilates, you’ll release tight hips, glutes, and more while improving core strength. Each session integrates mindfulness and body awareness for a 360-degree experience that replenishes you mentally as well as physically.

During the first week of SoulAnnex's opening, we took Fundamental Flows with Eve which was a vinyasa workout that is a balanced mind-body experience where your breath, mantras and
movement come together on the mat and beyond. As you transition from Inner Warrior to Warrior II, each person finds the shapes that awaken your muscles to find clarity, strength and
flow.

Prior to and after class, guests can enjoy complimentary studio amenities that include hair care products by Ouai and 100% organic tampons by LOLA. SoulAnnex features a lifestyle boutique
with SoulCycle's original performance and athleisure collections, as well as a capsule collection that features the signature triangle logo of SoulAnnex.

SIMPLE SELF DEFENSE SKILLS TO KNOW WHEN TRAVELING

Traveling can frazzle your brain. Between trying to remember if you locked up the house or put your ID back into your wallet, thinking about personal safety in airport parking lots is the last thing on most people’s minds. However, poorly lit parking garages, arms full of luggage, confusing parking signs, forgetting where you parked and keys buried in the bottom of an overflowing purse can make people easy targets for predators. To help people stay safe while traveling, Krav Maga Worldwide, the industry leader in self-defense and fitness, has put together a list of personal safety tips to keep in mind when at the airport, train station or in an unfamiliar city.

Stay aware of your surroundings by scanning your environment.

No matter how busy you are, do not allow your mind to wander. It might seem important in the moment to be making a to-do list in your head, but if you are worrying about what you need
to do when you get home you might not notice someone following you to your vehicle, reading your email over your shoulder or sliding a hand into your purse.

Park in well lit areas.

If you are renting a car while traveling, when you park - avoid spots next to vans, trucks with camper shells, or cars with tinted windows. You want to keep your car and yourself as visible
to as many people as possible and as such you should also avoid parking next to tall shrubs or plants that could block views of your vehicle.

Don't wear your purse or bag so that the strap crosses your body.

Wearing a purse strap across your body makes you more connected to your bag. If someone tries to steal your purse, you will be pulled with the strap. You can become unbalanced and put into a vulnerable position or you could end up in a physical altercation with the assailant. If your purse is draped on one shoulder you can easily let go of it.

Dress casually and comfortably.

During transit is not the time to make a fashion statement. It is better to leave the high heels and flashy statement making pieces at home or in your luggage until you arrive at your destination. Jeans and sneakers will help you blend in and if needed enable you to make a quick getaway. Also, avoid wearing large and expensive looking jewelry that can draw additional attention to you.

Always keep one arm and hand free of luggage and other gear.

Many people travel with multiple bags, purses, laptop cases and other accessories and gear. But, if your arms and hands are tied up with bags you have no means of defending yourself from an attacker. Luggage that can stack together securely and be pulled by one handle is a safer choice than wearing and carrying numerous bags on your person.

ATHLEISURE LIST: BROOKLYN | TORQUE CYCLE + STRENGTH

Torque Cycle + Strength focuses on TRX, Cycling and Pilates. Based in Williamsburg, one of the key features of this workout studio is that they have indoor spaces as well as an outdoor deck
to enjoy sessions. As it's getting closer to the summer, make sure you check out their schedule to see what classes are being offered - but we can attest to the fact that there is nothing like
spinning outdoors!

Worth noting is that the cycling that is conducted at this studio is typical of real world cycling. A number of the moves that you may do at traditional cycling studios are not done here. It's
an interesting way to create cardio into your workout and is worth noting when taking this class.

Pilates courses that are taught here focus on the classic movements that the method is founded in. Mat work and resistance are essential to what attendees are looking to strengthen
in their practice.

Interestingly enough, within the TRX classes, this HIIT method also includes a version of this class that mixes cycling as well as TRX together for a completely well-rounded workout.

In addition to studios that are focused on form and function for guests, other amenities that are offered at this studio are worth noting. The lockerroom has ample lockers with locks, a shower and a number of changing rooms.

Before and after class, there is a lounge area which is great to relax or to connect with your instructors or others who just took a session that you were in.

Available for sale are water bottles, t-shirts and other merchandise. As cash is not accepted at Torque Cycle + Strength, make sure to bring your credit card with you.
