SMARTBEATS X SMARTWATER

We’ve been fans of smartwater ever since we can remember so last month when we had the opportunity to attend 2 events that focused on smartbeats X smartwater (also available on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube), we attended. Simply put, SmartBeats X SmartWater is a first of its kind program designed to enhance holistic wellness through the fusion of music, tech and hydration. This was achieved through their partnership with artists Toro Y Moi, Nosaj Thing, Madeline Kenney, Washed Out and Empress Of. These artists music were powered by the sound technology app Endel. They created soundtracks and soundscapes that are designed to enhance your flow, mental balance, gets you to move or simply connect with friends. We were able to put 2 of these tracks through its paces in our first event where we did a guided meditation with The Big Quiet and smartwater partner, Jesse Israel as well as a workout with the brand’s Creative Director of Wellness and fitness expert (as well as Nike master trainer), Joe Holder which also incorporated the other track.

The second event, held at Lightbox, was the launch party where we were able to sample all 4 of the tracks, meet the creators of these tracks, re-connect with Joe Holder and Jesse Israel and meeting the founder of Endel through presentations and conversations with the collaborators that were involved. In addition, guests were able to interact with one another while enjoying cocktails (Blood Orange Bourbon Sour and Raspberry Rose Basil Sangria) that were paired with sparkling SmartWater. smartbeat X smartwater includes 2 parts within the project where the A-Side has music artists that are featured as well as the B-Side having the soundscapes that are powered by Endel. A-Side’s soundtrack was produced by Toro Y Moi who created this via collaborations with featured artists that complimented the SmartWater varieties.

  • MOVE | Record producer beat maker and DJ, Nosaj Thing makes music gets you pumped, moving and ready to break a sweat. Paired with the Alkaline line for hydration supporting active performance and recovery.

  • CONNECT | Alternative R&B and electronica artist, Empress Of provides the perfect backdrop for entertaining and connecting with friends. Paired with sparkling smartwater for delightful hydration while socializing.

  • FLOW | Folk artist Madeline Kenney’s classical sound reinforces focus and productivity. Paired with still smartwater for everyday need.

  • BALANCE | Washed Out’s chillwave sound promotes mental balance is complemented by smartwater’s antioxidant line for cognitive rejuvenation.

Soundscapes (B-side) enhanced, personalized, sound experiences tailored to key occasions and will partner with Endel, an app technology that generates reactive, personalized sounds. Endel’s tools are able to synthesize location, time, weather and other factors in real time. Whether it’s Yoga, running, meditation and more, the b-side provides the perfect soundtrack for each activity.

We've been fans of SoulCycle for years and were excited when we heard about SoulAnnex, the next evolution in fitness and wellness. The Flatiron location is where top instructors are piloting the latest and most effective off-the-bike classes. The focus of this platform is about elevating the way you move off the bike by strengthening, dancing, stretching and moving the body in a whole new way.

Classes are offered 4-5 days and provide a full 360 approach to training that compliments their on-the-bike programming at SoulCycle. The classes focus on three key training areas.

MOVE: Feel the beat, embrace the rhythm, and experience how energy and momentum can take your workout to the next level. Every move you make is done with and for a purpose:
Choreography, set to epic playlists, revs your heart rate and tones muscles from head to toe. The result is an incredibly fun workout that leaves you breathless and happy.

DEFINE: These total-body sessions utilize body weight, free weights, resistance bands and more to sculpt strong muscles. Drawing on varying modalities like high-intensity interval training and plyometrics, instructors will coach you through each rep to help you unlock
your inner athlete and achieve your highest level of physical fitness.

ALIGN: The perfect balancing supplement to your cardio and strength sessions, our restorative classes stretch, lengthen and rehab overworked muscles. Drawing on disciplines like yoga and Pilates, you’ll release tight hips, glutes, and more while improving core strength. Each session integrates mindfulness and body awareness for a 360-degree experience that replenishes you mentally as well as physically.

During the first week of SoulAnnex's opening, we took Fundamental Flows with Eve which was a vinyasa workout that is a balanced mind-body experience where your breath, mantras and
movement come together on the mat and beyond. As you transition from Inner Warrior to Warrior II, each person finds the shapes that awaken your muscles to find clarity, strength and
flow.

Prior to and after class, guests can enjoy complimentary studio amenities that include hair care products by Ouai and 100% organic tampons by LOLA. SoulAnnex features a lifestyle boutique
with SoulCycle's original performance and athleisure collections, as well as a capsule collection that features the signature triangle logo of SoulAnnex.

In a world where we are constantly finding the best way for goods and services to fit in our everyday lifestyles, we still find that there are areas that are lacking in innovations when it
comes to feminine products. Interestingly enough, we sat down with Laura Goodman, Senior Scientist, Tampax & Always to talk about the Always My Fit System which is a game changer in allowing women to finally find their perfect fit when it comes to managing that time of the month.

ATHLEISURE MAG: There have been a number of innovations for Always' assortment of products. In the history of the brand, what have been key inventions that have led the company to where it is today?

LAURA GOODMAN: The Always brand has led innovations in the feminine care space for more than 30 years. From introducing pads with wings to the development of FlexFoam™, a groundbreaking technology that makes Always Infinity® one of the most innovative pads on the market – Always has been at the forefront of the feminine care industry. The Always My Fit system is our latest advancement in the feminine care category. The system helps girls and women choose the best period protection for them, based on their The Always brand has led innovations in the feminine care space for more than 30 years. From introducing pads with wings to the development of FlexFoam™, a groundbreaking technology that makes Always Infinity® one of the most innovative pads on the market – Always has been at the forefront of the feminine care industry. The Always My Fit system is our latest advancement in the feminine care category. The system helps girls and women choose the best period protection for them, based on their panty size and flow to help prevent period leaks and to ensure girls and women experience their best comfort during that time of the month.

AM: With this new pad system, what was the thought process behind creating these options for women?

LG: When we learned that over 80% of women experience leaks each month, and that inadequate pad coverage was a leading cause, we knew we had to do something to help the 60% of women wearing the wrong size pad. Women aren’t one size fits all, so why should
their period protection be? The Always My Fit Sizing system helps women SLEEP ON THIS
find their right size pad based on their panty size and flow.

AM: What was the process like in creating 5 pads?

LG: Always scientists have spent years researching the most common reasons for pad leaks, and wearing the wrong size pad is one of the leading causes. Research shows that leaks
happen the most in the front and the back, so finding the right size for adequate front-to-back coverage is a way to avoid leaks. By offering 5 sizes, 3 for daytime protection and 2 for night,
women have the ability to find their right size coverage 24/7. Understanding that coverage needs to be based on panty size AND flow, some women might start their period in a size 3 for
day and 5 for night, and end their period in a size 2 for day and 4 for night. We want a woman to feel that her period protection is customizable to her flow, and by offering 5 sizes, we have
done just that.

AM: How can someone go about finding out what the best pad(s) would be for their lifestyle?

LG: By referencing the new Always My Fit sizing chart, found on the top of every Always pack, and at Always.com, women can find their right size pad based on their panty size and flow. We
have installed this sizing system across our Always Infinity, Ultra and Maxi lines to ensure that women can customize their protection across our products no matter the day of the month.

AM: It's interesting to see how personalization/ customization is making headway across verticals and how Always has embraced this with its newest offering - are there other innovations that we should keep an eye out for that will continue to target women's lifestyles?

LG: Always is a brand that is ALWAYS
innovating. We keep the people who
use our brand top of mind and when
there is a need for product, we aim to
develop it. You’ll have to stay tuned!

AM: How long did it take from conception
to bringing this out to market?

LG: It took us a few years. We worked
with girls and women from all across
the country to make sure we were getting
it right.
