From Coastlines to Castles: Biking Great Britain
If you’re looking for an ideal place to explore on two wheels, the Great British countryside has everything you need. With the rate of exchange firmly in your favor, it’s a good time to seize a bargain and explore miles of rugged coastlines, lush green valleys and charming lakes at your own pace. Biking is always a great way to move freely among local people, experiencing gems that are off the tourist trail, so whether you want a wee dram of whisky in the Scottish Highlands, or a traditional Cornish afternoon tea with freshly baked scones, there’s a route for everyone.
A Royal welcome
Of course, England is home to world-famous Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, but given that some 15 million tourists a year are drawn to the Palace alone, you’ll need to set course away from the crowds and hit the open road. Head South West, passing Glastonbury - scene of the iconic music festival - and across the top of Exmoor National Park for one of the most uninterrupted coastal runs in the country. Sip tea in quaint Devonshire villages, continue down the coast through Cornwall for King Arthur’s Castle at Tintagel, surfers’ paradise in Newquay and celebrate your arrival at Lands End. Although the terrain is all pretty smooth, this is around 200 miles of riding, so a comfortable bike designed for longer journeys would be wise choice.
Whisky and whale watching
For those who prefer a rugged, slightly colder landscape, Scotland has plenty of roguish charm. Take the North Coast route; a 500 mile round trip from Inverness. The road over the Pass of the Cattle into Applecross is famed among UK bikers, but the NC500 also takes in the famous Glenmorangie distillery, a chance to spot the infamous Loch Ness monster (or, more likely, whales and dolphins in the sea), and plenty of castles and battle-fields along the way.
Wales
If you’re hoping for something a little quieter, Wales has stunning views and idyllic roads to enjoy on two wheels. The A4069, also known as the Black Mountain Pass, is popular and can get busy over the summer, but is worth doing if you can. For natural beauty, it doesn’t get much better than the Brecon Beacons mountain range and on to the beautiful Devil's Bridge Falls.
While the dollar is strong against the British pound sterling, it’s the ideal time to hit the open road and explore all that the island of Britain has to offer. Each area offers different types of stunning natural beauty, friendly locals and hearty food. If you’re still thirsty for more adventure, why not take your bike over on the ferry to Northern Ireland and keep on riding? A warm welcome awaits.

Having a boat comes with many struggles, and for some, it can be another fulfilled fantasy on their list of fantasies. Although this can turn your life around, it also comes with many necessities. Having a boat gives you the chance to sail the lake with family members and friends during free weekends or holidays. You'll also get to become acquainted with others who fancy boating; luck is on your side if you get to select the right boat because it can prove to be an investment that can last for years.
The first thing you'll want to think about is if you should purchase a new or second-hand boat. It is advisable to purchase a new boat if, you have been saving up for it or money isn't one of your many problems. If you’re not sure where to begin your boat search journey, this boat lovers’ favorite from marineservices.co.nz/haines-hunter might be a good place to start. The decision to purchase a new boat can come in handy, as it will give you a relaxed mind plus a back-up plan should your boat begin to malfunction or become faulty in the future. New boats usually come with a warranty.
Also, the boats which are considered in trend and current in terms model should be put as a priority. These models could include prowler, k-series, off-shore, enclosed, limited range, cruise, and many more. If you happen to be the type who love details, there are expert dealers available to help you through your choosing process, to ensure that you select the model that you desire, all you need to do is to speak to them. It would be best if you bear what you can afford in mind when choosing your dream boat as it’s not only the purchase costs that would prove a huge expense but also the upkeep of the boat, gas, moorage, dry docking, cleaning, and storage
This is left to your taste. However, it should be noted that motor-powered boats are more effortless to drive than the sailing boats which are propelled by the wind. Selecting a boat depends on what you plan to do with it. If you are a fisherman or you want to enjoy a slow cruise, a sailing boat should be the best option. However, if you have other plans, like skiing on the waters with your adventurous kids then the motorboat is preferable, to achieve this you'll have to get a motor engine installed internally or externally on your boat.
Boats are great investments that come with extra costs such as fuel, maintenance, storage, and insurance. When purchasing a boat put into consideration what can suit your budget at that moment and over the years.
Insurance is an important thing when it comes to selecting a boat, despite the means you plan to use in purchasing it, be it finance or cash. Finding an agent who has underwrites that deal mainly in marine boat insurance would be of great benefit to you. It is okay to do all the shopping yourself, but it is better if this is done with the aid of an agent versed in the procedure of acquiring a boat. Agents usually have dealings with particular insurance companies plus they are vital in the comparison of rates and insurance policies, to ensure you get the best out of your purchase.
In conclusion, how old your boat is, the price of purchase and how big or small it is, will act as a major factor in your coverage and premiums. If you decide to purchase a second-hand boat, you’ll need to run a test on it to ascertain the condition. There are insurance companies who give out discounts based on the type of boat and if you are purchasing a boat for the first time. The storage space for your boat should also be an important thing to consider when purchasing a boat. Some prefer pulling their boat on a trailer to give them the chance to taste diverse waterways, while others will prefer parking it at a home port marina.
Ensure to test drive your boat or do a sea trial. When doing this, you should not limit your thoughts— take a test drive with a considerate number of people on board, as a test drive you undertake with two people might prove too inefficient when it comes to holding a full load of family and friends. Also, that speed that appears to be in an average velocity during your test trial might prove otherwise later on.
It's okay to not be apt in the technical knowledge about the boat you want to purchase, that's why there are marine surveyors. You should seek the aid of an independent marine surveyor to help in all the technical knowledge and workings of your boat. This surveyor has a similarity to a home inspector; they are apt at discovering any inadequacies the boat might have, by carefully surveying it inside out, to ensure you get to know the exact condition of the boat before purchase.
During your survey of the boat, be careful to make sure that all lights, gauges, and electronics are working properly. You should power the engine at full throttle to ensure it's within the maximum rpm specified by the manufacturer; this can be gotten from the net or from brochures that show such. You will know that the prop installed is the wrong one when there is an under- or over-revving, a wrong installation can cause too much wear to the engine. Be sure to flip open lockers and hatches and also give the canvas a slightly hard pat.

One of the woman’s greatest joys and achievements in life is to give birth to a human being. There is no doubt that having a child is a wonderful experience. However, the majority of women didn’t know that pregnancy and giving birth changes you not only emotionally but also physically. Most often, you hear women complain about how they no longer look the same after they gave birth. The majority of the changes that happened during pregnancy are caused by hormones.
Technically, a woman’s body produces a wide range of hormones during pregnancy to maintain it during pregnancy and sustain it during childbirth. The effects of these hormones have an impact on your body and in your everyday activities post-pregnancy. For example, Relaxin is a hormone released by the woman’s placenta, ovaries, and the uterine lining during the entire pregnancy period.
It prevents the contraction of muscles during the first two semesters of pregnancy. Relaxin also prevents premature delivery and ruptures the membranes around the fetus. It also opens and softens the cervix and the vagina and relaxes the ligaments of the pelvis to help during labor.
Prolactin is another hormone that stimulates the production of milk in the body and stays in the body as long as you breastfeed. This hormone could influence your immune system, metabolism, behavior, and fluids regulation. Prolactin is the obvious culprit of the water retention or edema and mood swings very common to women after they give birth.
Another hormone that plays a major role in breastfeeding and labor is Oxytocin. It stimulates the uterine muscle to contract and promotes the movement of milk into the breast. Most recent studies found that Oxytocin is crucial in one’s social behavior. It is responsible for anxiety, sexual arousal, trust, and recognition.
It is more popularly known as the love hormone and is responsible for the mother-infant bond. Most women feel unattractive and felt that childbirth took away their youthful appearance. While it is true that most of the weird changes in the woman’s body disappears after giving birth, some of them linger and are unfortunately for keeps.
Here are some of the things that may never go back to the way they were before pregnancy.
For several months you carried another life inside your womb and as it grows inside, your skin will naturally stretch to go along with the expanding size. When you have given birth, the skin on the stomach has already stretched out too much that it has a lesser chance to return to its original appearance. It is like a plastic bag filled beyond its capacity that when you took everything out of the bag, it will not return to its original shape.
There is still a chance that your skin could bounce back after a year or two but the odds are against you and you have to fight against gravity and aging. This means to say that saggy skin is a permanent thing that you could not just remove by diet and exercise. So, even if you can remove the weight that you gained due to pregnancy, saggy skin, unfortunately, is not going away.
Most often, saggy skin is developed along with losing weight. Saggy skin is one of the major reasons why the procedure tummy tuck is popular among women who have had kids, says Dr. William Ross of Mommy Makeover.
One of the most depressing effects of pregnancy on women is called Ptosis or sagging of the breasts. The problem is, once the breasts droop they will never stand firm again. The drooping is mainly caused by the stretching of the elastin and ligaments that ensure the fatty tissues are in their proper places, according to the 2008 Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
The bright side about this is that once you have had a baby, breastfeeding will not likely worsen breast sagging. The Annals of Plastic Surgery discovered that women who have been pregnant had more sagging breasts compared to those who had not. Breastfeeding, however, does not cause the worsened droopiness of the breasts like smoking status and weight gain do.
Striae, or stretch marks, are formed when the elastic fibers of your skin break. During pregnancy or when you gain weight, your body grows at a pace that your skin could not keep up with, which causes a stretch mark. The American Academy of Dermatology reports that 90 percent of women develop stretch marks starting in the seventh month of their pregnancy.
Just like saggy skin, striae are permanent but there is still a way that it could be removed depending on its location. Dr. William Ross, Mommy Makeover expert from Naples, FL, recommends a breast lift or a tummy tuck could give your body makeover that it deserves. Both of these procedures can also enhance the appearance of stretch marks that could not be removed.
Long with your breast size, the size of your areolae and your nipples naturally increases. These changes in their shapes make it easier for the infant to latch on when they breastfeed. The change in the pigmentation of the nipples and areolas are caused by hormones. These hormones activate the melanocytes or the cells that produce pigment in the skin.
While the dark pigmentation will lighten over time, the size of your areola or nipples will stay the same despite that your breasts have returned to their original size. An areola reduction could be performed if you are too concerned about it.
Pregnancy brings all types of skin changes. The linea nigra, for instance, becomes visible. This is the black line or the dark vertical line running over from the belly up to the pubic hair region at the time of pregnancy. Women could also develop melasma or the mask of pregnancy. These are brown blotches that color the face. Moles and freckles could also become darker during pregnancy.

We loved Brad Goreski when we first met him on BRAVO's The Rachel Zoe Project as he stepped into the world of styling and being her assistant, he continued on with the network's It's A Brad Brad World and appearing on a number of shows including being a co-host on E! Fashion Police for a number of seasons and during Awards Season on E! Live From the Red Carpet where he gives the inside scoop on who he dressed, who is wearing what and making predictions on what designers we will see on the red carpets. His career has included being a Creative Director at Kate Spade and dressing a number of coveted celebs including Emily Ratajkowski, Demi Moore, Rashida Jones and Jessica Alba to name a few. He's known for rocking dapper style and never being afraid of color and patterns for his clients or himself.
With summer officially starting this month, we took some time to talk about how he got into the industry, how he is inspired to dress his clients, the importance of sunglasses - summer's accessory and last month's MET Gala looks that he loved this year.
ATHLEISURE MAG: When did you know that you wanted to be in fashion and ultimately know that you wanted to be a stylist?
BRAD GORESKI: I think I knew from a very young age. I always loved fashion and putting looks together for myself and for my mom. I was always so aware of what everyone was wearing that I feel like this is kind of exactly what I was supposed to be doing. But the real turning point is when I was in college and I was looking for a summer internship and I landed at one in Vogue in NYC and the rest is kind of history. I just knew that it was where I wanted to be. I feel very lucky that I have been able to work in an industry that has been so welcoming to me for many many years now and I feel very very lucky!
AM: How do you get inspiration when it comes to styling your clients?
BG: Social media is such a great place to get inspired. There is everything from the past, present and future available to us there. I follow a variety of different people and different pages. It’s so fun to be able to see something like I noticed an old image of Marilyn Monroe the other day in a great black lace blouse, pencil skirt and heels and just the whole vibe of the setup! I said to myself, “I have to do this with one of my clients this summer.” It was just a really beautiful summery look and there are so many great trends this summer as well. It’s just really fun to keep up with these trends on social media.
AM: What are 3 trends this summer that we should be thinking about in terms of creating our dynamic look?
BG: Well one of the big trends that I’m loving in terms of the summer for men and for women is really bright bold color. Whether that’s a bright red or a royal blue or even something as crazy as a bright yellow. Thinking about bold color is one of my favorite trends! You can do that even in suiting with a blazer or even in shorts.
The second one is florals – florals are everywhere right now whether it’s a bigger floral or more of a micro floral – a smaller one – I think florals for men and for women is a nice summery way to kind of add a little bit of interest to your wardrobe.
Of course, number 3 is always having a good pair of sunglasses. I’m so happy to be partnering with the Vision Council to be talking about sunglasses and protecting your eyes this summer and also the best ways that you can purchase a pair of sunglasses and the steps that you can go through to be thinking about when you are buying a pair of sunglasses. You always want to be protecting your eyes and buying those that protect yourself from UVA and UVB rays. You want to look for that little sticker that we’re all familiar with on your sunglasses that let you know that they protect you from this. You also want to be able to have the right comfort and fit. You want to get a pair of sunglasses that really suits the shape of your face. Then you need to look at your lifestyle. What do you do throughout the day? Are you super active, are you running errands, do you run around with your kids? Next, what’s your style? Are you looking more towards a Marilyn Monroe style that is more vintage and has a cat eye or are you looking to be a little more classic and looking to do an aviator?
AM: These are great points and there are some people that opt not to wear sunglasses! What do you believe are some of the misconceptions that they have that results in them not wearing them?
BG: I think that there are a lot of myths out there about sunglasses. I think that some people believe that if it is cloudy outside, that they are not getting any UVA/UVB exposure. Whether it’s cloudy out or not, you are always at risk of UVA/UVB exposure. I think that also when people look at their sunglasses and see that it has a super dark lens, they think that they are getting the ultimate in protection. The only way that you know that you’re getting protection from UVA/UVB protection is when you see that little sticker that says that. You want to look for it for sure. I think that The Vision Council says that whenever you’re out during the day that you should be protecting your eyes with a pair of sunglasses.
AM: These are great points that we should always be mindful. As someone that I know travels quite a bit, what are 3 things that you tend to carry with you in your carryon when you travel?
BG: Very good question because I am taking off on a flight this afternoon! So, snacks – I always have to have them with me. I like to have my own with me because I like to eat on the airplane and it gets me through. I always have some bars, a little treat, I like to carry some almond butter with me. I always have earplugs with me as well because I like to have just quiet. I also like to have my headphones with me as well. The last flight I took, my head phones fell out of my bag in the backseat of the car and I really had to do some centering work. I was like, what am I going to do for 6 hours?
AM: That is the worst!!!! We have been fans of yours for a long time and love seeing you on E! Live from the Red Carpet. As the Met Gala taking place last month with its focus on Camp, what were your 3 favorite looks from this year’s carpet?
BG: Ooo that’s a good question! I am going to say that I loved Cardi B in Thom Browne, Katy Perry in the Moschino chandelier and I love Emily Ratajkowski in Peter Dundas I believe.

This month, we talk with John Salley, who had a phenomenal NBA career with 4 Championship rings on 3 separate teams. Post his NBA career, he has been a host of FOX Sports' Best Damn Sports Show Period, a host on a number of shows such as VH1's Basketball Wives and Basketball Wives LA, as well as a number of other hosting and TV appearances. In addition, he is known for his philanthropy, activism and his investments within health and wellness. With his focus on veganism as well as the cannabis sector, he has a truly diversified portfolio. We talk with him about his career, his legacy in the game and his transition into current projects.
ATHLEISURE MAG: What was that moment that you realized that you wanted to play basketball and ultimately, go to the NBA?
JOHN SALLEY: At the time, I think that I was 6 years old! I was realizing that everybody was getting up early to go to work and I saw that people were playing games at night and that’s when I knew that was a job that I wanted instead.
AM: As a 15 year veteran in the league and as the first player to win 4 championship games on 3 different teams, what do you think your legacy is in terms of your contribution to the game?
JS: Oh wow. My legacy? Some of my teammates like me, I say it all the time time that everything is just moments in time! For me to be on that stage 5 times and to win 4 of them is an amazing accomplishment and that can’t be taken away. A lot of the people that I talk to say that there are great players and I tell them that there is a difference between great players and champions.
AM: A lot of people during this time of year get a little confused when it comes to buying their father or father figures something for Father’s Day. What are 3 gifts that you suggest so that we’re not just getting in the rut of a coffee mug or a tie?
JS: A tie and a coffee mug is good because next year you realize that you broke that coffee mug or you're still wearing that tie that everyone saw at that Christmas party ha ha! I have this wonderful bald head. God took the middle out so I took the rest out. I love and use the Philips Norelco 6000 Shaver. It protects your skin from getting those cuts and head bumps. It has rings that goes around. It feels good all day. I shave my head so that I can always be smooth and ready.
I also love, as I am a photographer and always take pictures – Epson Workforce BT4750 Printer with an ecotank. Many people take pictures and they leave it on their camera. Sometimes I like to put it in a frame! I like when you can have something in your hands and and know that you have it.
Lastly, you can get the 4K UHD Blu-Ray Player which is available at Amazon, Best Buy, Target etc. A lot of guys have a lot of Blu-Ray collections but I love that you can just sit back and watch all of your favorite.
I love Bumblebee so funny and you can watch with your whole family at anytime! They also have Forrest Gump which I believe is one of the greatest movies of all time – everybody else does too. Tom Hanks got his award because of it – you can do anything in America and that is a proven thing about Forrest Gump and everything counts to the next point. It’s the 25 year anniversary too! Then there is Batman. I mean, you have Jack Nicholson and he was psycho and they played a lot of Prince music which I loved! The movies come along with this player and it's cool that this is what people want to see. That's what I think works for Father's Day.
AM: This time of year also makes you think about what you want to gift grads – what ideas do you have for that?
JS: For a grad – I don’t want you sitting around all day eating nachos that’s not vegan and just watching movies although it’s a great gift to have! I definitely suggest the Epson printer for anybody.
AM: As you transitioned from the game, you’ve been in movies, hosted shows, are philanthropic and you are making serious moves in the health and wellness sector. Why is being involved in this area so important to you?
JS: Well, I have a big foot but I want to leave the smallest footprint on the planet whenever I decide to leave. I believe everything deserves to have life. Nothing needs to be taken from life it just needs to have life. I believe that the best you can, the best energy you put forth, making sure you do something to help society, the world, the planets, and animals – the more you do the more you’re blessed!

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know the importance of SPF and re-applying it. There are times when, despite your best efforts, you still manage to get burned. Perhaps you were careless, and after too many margaritas forgot to re-apply your sunblock. Now, you are literally burned by your day of fun in the sun. Before you do anything to put yourself out of your stinging, burning agony, read these tips so you know what NOT to do to soothe a sunburn. Dr. Sheel Desai Solomon is a board- certified Raleigh- Durham North Carolina Dermatologist and founder and owner of Preston Dermatology
Here is her list of things to avoid after a bad sunburn.
Wearing Cologne
Some cologne may contain ingredients that make you more prone to burning. "Oil of bergamot is especially notorious for this," explains Dr. Solomon "and can cause a severe, blistering reaction when it's on your skin and exposed to the sun." It's become rarer in the past few years since many fragrance companies started stripping the ingredient from their products. Other perfume ingredients and essential oils, like rosemary and lavender oils, can make your skin more sensitive to the rays, too, Dr. Solomon adds. To play it safe, avoid spraying any scents onto your skin before you go outside.
Medications
Taking an anti-inflammatory medication, like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, can help soothe your skin once you're sunburned. However, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like ibuprofen and naproxen, can also leave you more vulnerable to getting burned in the first place.
Dr. Solomon explains, "That's because certain medications contain photosensitizing agents. Those molecules will absorb the sun's UV rays and release them back into your skin, which damages and kills skin cells."
However, NSAIDs aren't the only ones that can raise your risk of getting fried. "There is a whole slew of meds out there that can leave your skin more sensitive to sun's rays," says Dr. Solomon "meaning you need to take extra precautions before spending time outdoors." Common ones include topical acne medications like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, antihistamines, and antibiotics. Even OTC supplements like St. John's Wort can make you burn more easily. Avoiding direct sunlight after applying or taking these medications is your best bet, but if you need to head outside, Dr. Solomon suggests protecting your skin with SPF 30 sunscreen and covering up with long sleeves, hats.
Taking Hot Showers
When your skin gets a little too toasted, you may notice that it tends to feel dry as it heals. Even if you're not in physical pain, taking hot showers can strip your skin of essential oils, which can dry it out even further and make it more sensitive, explains Dr. Solomon.
"This may lead to blistering and possibly prolong the healing process." On top of that, hot water isn't going to feel great, even on a mild sunburn that didn't feel too bad to begin with. While cold showers typically feel uncomfortable, sticking to lukewarm or cool showers when you're burned will ease discomfort. The temperature should be no warmer than what you would expect from a heated pool, which is around 84 degrees.
Wearing Tight Clothing
Wearing tight clothing over sunburnt skin is not advised, because inflammation is setting in. "Your body is trying to respond to the trauma by increasing blood flow to the area to help with healing. This results in redness, warmth, and inflammation to the area," says Dr. Solomon. Wearing tight clothes could amplify the response, which could lead to more intense swelling and blisters. Alternatively, you can avoid sunburns altogether and use the best sunscreen for your skin type.
Don't Use Scented Aloe
Aloe has anti-inflammatory properties and is suitable for your skin after you get a sunburn. However, using a scented aloe can irritate the skin even more. Dr. Solomon suggests using a fragrance-free aloe or using aloe directly from an aloe plant. However, the most beneficial treatment of all is to avoid sunburn in the first place.
Don't Cover that Burn With Makeup
Even though your sunburn might look bad, avoid covering it up with makeup. "The only way the burn will heal is if you let your skin breathe," says Dr. Solomon. "Introducing various makeups through dirty sponges or brushes will only increase your risk for infection or allergic reaction, which will ultimately make it all worse."
Don't Pop Your Blisters
Similar to not peeling your skin, you should never pop blisters. "That extra bubble of skin serves a fundamental purpose in protecting the wound," says Dr. Solomon. "If a blister hurts severely, apply a cream-based unscented aloe vera."
Not Drinking Enough Water
Sunburns dehydrate you from the inside out, so you really should be drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water a day to rejuvenate the skin.
Exfoliating
While scrubbing dead skin off your body helps to you then the skin, it's one of the worst things you can do on a sunburn. When your skin is burnt from the sun, exfoliating only exposes the damaged layer of skin, even more, causing pain and further irritation, explains Dr. Solomon. Instead, use a gentle moisturizer or mask to treat damaged skin.
Don't Use Coconut Oil or Butter
You may have heard before that lathering butter or coconut oil will soothe your burn, but it's a myth. The skin is hot and needs to cool down, applying a fat-based product onto your skin will not only clog the pores and stop the healing process, but it might also aggravate inflammation. "Coconut oil and butter are great for moisturizing the skin in other instances," says. Dr. Solomon, "but when it comes to a burn, you should wait until the skin cools to use it."

“Cottage cheese,” “funky gravy.” “hail damage” - whatever you want to call it - cellulite is never something we want to see on our bodies. That lumpy, dimple-looking flesh on our thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and hips is dreaded by women and men alike. Cellulite is caused by fat cells pushing up against a layer of skin, tethered down by connective fibers that attach to the muscles. When there is a buildup of fat, these fibers pull down while the fat pushes up, creating the appearance of uneven, bumpy skin. Cellulite is not a weight issue and can affect individuals of all shapes, sizes and ages.
While cellulite is not a serious medical condition, it can make someone feel insecure or embarrassed. However, you aren’t alone; between 80 to 90 percent of women will experience cellulite at some point in their lives. Some might start to notice cellulite as early as puberty. Dr. Gretchen Frieling is a board -certified Boston Area Dermatopathologist. She cuts out the clutter to define what really works in 2019 to eradicate cellulite, be it a temporary or permanent solution.
Are there at home creams that can provide temporary improvement?
“If you’re looking for an at-home treatment, topical creams are an effective way to diminish cellulite. However, they’re a long-term or complete “cure,” says Dr. Frieling, She adds, “The fat cells are still under there! To maintain the results, you’ll have to apply the product every day. Use a moisturizing cream with ingredients that treat fatty tissues such as caffeine or retinol to minimize cellulite. To see results, you must apply the topical cream daily to improve cell circulation. Caffeine works as a diuretic, which can dehydrate the fat cells and change the water content, which can reduce the appearance of cellulite. While creams with at least 0.3 percent retinol work by thickening the outer layer of skin. It is essential to test these products on your skin before long-term use as some have shown to have adverse effects. Most creams can be found online and at any drugstore.”
What are the latest technologies to decrease Cellulite?
Acoustic wave therapy
Studies show that this can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Several treatment sessions are needed to see a reduction.
During one minimally invasive laser treatment called Cellulaze™, a tiny laser fiber is inserted beneath your skin. When the laser is fired, the laser energy breaks up the tough bands beneath the skin that cause us to see cellulite. This treatment can also thicken your skin, which is important. Skin often thins where cellulite forms. Thickening the skin can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Bottom line: Cellulaze™ may reduce the appearance of cellulite. Patients see results that last a year or longer. More research is needed to know for sure how effective this laser can be.
Subcision
Called Cellfina™, this medical procedure involves your dermatologist inserting a needle just under the skin to break up the tough bands beneath the skin that cause us to see cellulite.
Bottom Line: Cellfina™ has been shown to reduce the skin dimpling that you see with cellulite. In a study of 232 patients, 99% of them said they were satisfied with the results. The results can last two years and possibly longer.
Vacuum-assisted precise tissue release
This also breaks up the tough bands that cause us to see cellulite. During this procedure, your practitioner will use a device that contains small blades to cut the tough bands. After the bands are cut, the tissue moves upward to fill out and eliminate the dimpled skin.
Bottom line: This may be an effective treatment for reducing cellulite. A small study shows that many patients who received this treatment had less cellulite for up to 3 years. It’s too soon to tell, but the results may last even longer.
Radiofrequency
This is a type of treatment that heats the cellulite. One FDA-approved device combines radiofrequency with a laser, suction, and massage to target cellulite.
Bottom line: Recent studies suggest some patients see a little less cellulite. This result, however, is short-lived and several treatments are needed to see this minor change.
After treatment, bruises are common. These fade with time.
Are there lifestyle exercise or diet changes that will reduce cellulite?
AVOID SUGAR
Dr. Frieling explains, “Your diet may be playing a significant role in the amount of cellulite you have, so it’s important always to have a well-balanced diet. One of the biggest culprits for causing cellulite are sugary sweet snacks and processed foods. Sugar is stored in our fat cells, and having too much will cause them to expand, thus creating the appearance of cellulite. The same goes for foods with high sodium intake, which cause bloating and water retention, making cellulite more noticeable. Other foods to avoid are cheese, soda, deli meat, fried food, and white bread.”
EXERCISE REGULARLY
If you’re struggling to get rid of those stubborn dimples, it’s time to get up and get moving. “While it isn’t exactly the cure for cellulite,” says Dr. Frieling, she adds that “regular exercise will help in its prevention by strengthening the muscles underneath the fat in your butt, thighs, and hips. Squats and lunges, as well as a 45-minute walk, are great exercises that target the leg muscles and make the skin look more even.”
STOP SMOKING
Smoking reduces the amount of blood that flows to your skin, causing the skin to become thinner and saggier. While it is a difficult habit to kick, the cellulite on your legs, arms, and butt will be less visible.
REDUCE YOUR ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
“Elimination or significantly reducing the amount of alcohol you consume may aid in decreasing the toxins that accumulate underneath our fat cells. Alcohol also has high amounts of sugar, which will only make the cellulite more noticeable,” says Dr. Frieling.
STAY HYDRATED
This probably won’t be the first time you’ve been told to drink more water, but it does help! Dr. Frieling explains that “By drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water every day, you’re helping to remove the toxins stored underneath the layer of fat which cause our skin to look lumpy. Staying hydrated also helps with the overall health of your skin, making it appear more plump and full”.
FAKE IT!
If you have fair skin, a self-tanner may help. Dimpled areas are less noticeable on darker skin. Start with a gentle body scrub, then apply a self-tanning lotion to cellulite areas only. Next spritz your entire body with a tanning spray. Pass on a real tan. It'll damage your skin and make cellulite look worse.

With a busy summer ahead, we took some time to talk with country star, John King while he was prepping for CMA Fest. We talk about his newest single “Try Saying Goodbye”, performing at the Grand Ole Opry, the importance of family and where he goes in Nashville.
ATHLEISURE MAG: Your newest single “Try Saying Goodbye” is quite a hit. What inspired you to create this song?
JOHN KING: “Try Saying Goodbye” is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever released. I’ve been blown away by the reaction so far. I feel like what makes it special is everybody can relate. The inspiration for this song came from my relationship with my wife, Hannah. We started dating when we were 15 and grew up together. There were moments in our relationship, where we could have gone different ways but instead we decided to work through the hard times. When we wrote this song, I started thinking about everything I would have missed out on if we had chosen a different path – our love for each other, this wonderful life we’ve built together and our precious baby girl Scarlett.
AM: You’re juggling a lot between your career, family and Scarlett – how do you ensure that you’re present when you are with your family and that they get the time that they need?
JK: There is nothing more important to me than family. Luckily, my wife and baby girl get to join me on the road a lot! When they can’t, we’re always sharing photos, texting and video chatting. My partnership with Straight Talk Wireless makes it really easy to stay connected on the road with their new Ultimate Unlimited 2-line plan.
AM: A fanbase is essential, how do you interact with your fans and make it feel fresh to them?
JK: I’m fortunate enough to have amazing fans who have been following me for years. Recently we had the idea to give my cell phone number out so they could text me directly anytime they want. So far, I’ve literally received thousands of texts – anything from people reaching out about “Try Saying Goodbye” to folks who are in disbelief that it’s actually me texting them back! The support has been overwhelming and exciting!
AM: You’ve partnered with Straight Talk Wireless. Why is this a synergistic partnership and why is it important to find the best ways to communicate in order to stay on track professionally and personally?
JK: One of the most important things to me as an artist is communicating with my fans on a personal level. I’m a Straight Talk Wireless user myself and I can attest to the affordable and reliable service, so this partnership was a no brainer. For more info on Straight Talk, visit www.StraightTalk.com.
AM: When did you know that you wanted to be a musician and specifically wanted to be a country artist?
JK: It’s really been my passion since I was a kid. I grew up singing in church, school talent shows, county fairs, you name it. I’ve always loved getting up on that stage and entertaining a crowd. It’s one of the best feelings in the world!
AM: How do you get inspired when you are creating your songs?
JK: Writing a song is such a fun process for me because there really is no formula for how it’s done. It can happen a million different ways at unexpected times. Sometimes the inspiration can be triggered from a melody, a conversation or something I’ve lived firsthand, so I use my smartphone to easily keep track of all my ideas when I’m on-the-go. It’s different every time and always exciting.
AM: You recently played at CMA Fest, you’re on a national tour and you’re returning to the Grand Ole Opry stage – what excited you about doing this and what are you looking forward to?
JK: Touring is one of my favorite parts of what I do. I love every aspect of being an artist – writing songs, recording and releasing music but there really is something special about performing for a crowd that paid their hard earned money to come see a show. CMA Fest is always such an exciting experience because the whole week is about the fans. This year was especially great because we got to play The CMA Spotlight and Spotify Hot Country stages and the energy was unreal! To top off an amazing month, I’m so honored to be playing the Grand Ole Opry. Just doesn’t get any better than that!
AM: What are your goals this year in terms of awards, those you wish to collaborate or play with etc.?
JK: My goal this year is to continue the success we’re already having with touring, writing and releasing new music. So far it’s been my biggest year to date with the impact of “Try Saying Goodbye.” I’m just excited for as many people to hear this song as possible!
AM: As someone who is on the road quite a bit, what are 3 things that you always have on your carryon that make you feel at home?
JK: I’d say my go tos are 1. My Bible 2. My smartphone, so I can look at family photos at all times 3. My band (don’t wanna forget them haha)
AM: In Nashville, where can we find you grabbing a meal/cocktail, working out and shopping?
JK: Nashville is such a great town with limitless options, but my go to place is Blake Shelton’s bar Ole Red! I do my daily workout routine using my smartphone at the house with Baby Scarlett! She loves to work out with Dad so that’s our time together.
