MODERN CIDER
Ten Speed Press
Emma Christensen
The concept of drinking and creating cider has had a renewed interest over the past couple of years. Back in the 1700's cider was considered a medicinal beverage that people consumed. Today, there are restaurants that are creating menus around this and a big growing movement to even make these at home as opposed to buying subscriptions to have them on hand.
Homebrew guru Emma Christensen created this book to talk about this movement, sourcing the fruits and juices as well as instructing us on bottling these beverages.
This book includes an array of recipes along with pictures. In addition, she looks at the world of cider by also sharing the cousins which include perry. In addition, she shares techniques that beer brewers use that are perfect for those working with cider.

ARE THERE WAYS YOU CAN GROW IN HEIGHT?
A person’s height is determined by two main factors, namely genetic and environmental which includes exercise and nutrition. However, genetic factors contribute more to your height compared with environmental factors. People tend to grow faster in the early years of life – from age one to puberty. After going through puberty, growth slows down until it stops in adulthood.
If you want to grow tall, there are several things you can do during your adolescence years to maximize your growth. If you persistently continue to do these things into adulthood, you have a good chance of promoting your general well-being and improving your height. Below, we explore the five ways you can grow in height:
Exercise Regularly
Living an active life has numerous health benefits. When it comes to growing in height, regular exercises strengthen the bones and muscles, enable you to keep your weight in check, and enhance human growth hormone (HGH) production. In their growth years, children should engage in, at least, one hour of physical activities. These activities should include exercises that build their strength, aerobic activities like biking and jumping rope, and flexibility exercises like yoga.
In adults, regular exercises lower the risk of developing bone diseases like osteoporosis and enable them to maintain good health. Osteoporosis develops when the bones become brittle or weak, causing a drop in bone density. This causes a person’s height to shrink. To lower the risk of developing this condition, adults can play tennis, do walking exercises, and practice yoga. If you’re in college, consider creating time to work out in your schedule.
2. Ensure Your Diet Is Always Balanced
In the early years of your life, your body should get all the crucial nutrients it needs to develop and grow well. The key to achieving this is to ensure that you’re always eating a balanced diet. Essentially, your diet should consist of fresh vegetables, fruit, proteins, whole grains, and dairy. If you have an underlying condition that affects your bone density and slows your growth in height, consider increasing your calcium intake. Vitamin D is also critical for supporting bone health. You can get this nutrient from fortified milk, tuna, and egg yolk. If you’re unable to get sufficient Vitamin D from your food, discuss alternative sources like supplements with your doctor to meet your daily needs.
3. Be Cautious About Supplements
Supplements can support growth in children and young adults, but these are appropriate only in very limited cases. One case where supplements may be used is when a person develops a health condition that affects the production of HGH. In such situations, a doctor can prescribe a supplement like Growth Factor Plus that contains HGH in synthetic form.
Older adults may be given calcium or Vitamin D supplements to lower their risk of developing osteoporosis. Besides these two situations, it is advisable to be careful with any other supplements that promise to enhance growth in height. This is because after your growth plates are fused, the likelihood of increasing your height is minimal regardless what a supplement label reads.
4. Embrace A Good Posture
Your posture can make you appear taller or shorter. A poor posture like slouching or slumping will make you appear shorter than you really are. Naturally, your back should curve in three areas. Slouching or slumping regularly causes these curves to shift. This causes back and neck pain. Paying attention to how you sit, sleep, and stand enables you to maintain a good posture. If you’re not sure whether you’re maintaining a good posture, visit your doctor for advice on how you can include ergonomics in your daily routine and the routine exercises you can engage in to correct your posture.
5. Get Quality Sleep
Sleeping less hours than recommended won’t affect how tall you ultimately grow. However, if you sleep less than 10 hours regularly during your adolescence years, you may experience complications and fail to maximize your height growth because the HGH is released during sleep. This means sleeping less hours causes a reduction in the amount of HGH that your body produces. On the other hand, sleeping longer hours means increased production of the HGH, which boosts your growth.
Final Thoughts
Genetic factors play a big role in determining how tall you grow. But, environmental factors also affect how well you grow in height. You grow in the initial 18 years of your life. To maximize your growth during this period, eat a well-balanced diet, get sufficient sleep, and exercise regularly. If you’re past the growing age, make yourself appear taller by building stronger muscles and embracing a good posture.
SHE EMPOWERS WITH CHESLIE KRYST
We enjoyed talking to Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst who recently crowned Miss USA 2020 Asya Branch. During her reign, she competed at the Miss Universe 2019 competition and finished in the top 10 repre- senting the United States. She was also a part of a historic period where for the first time, all 4 major US based pagent holders were black women including Miss Universe 2019's Zozibini Tuni of South Africa, Miss America 2019 Nia Franklin and Miss Teen USA 2019 Kaliegh Garris.
We talked to the longest reigning Miss USA on how she got into the pageant world, her platform, being an attorney and her work as a correspondent on EXTRA.
ATHLEISURE MAG: So what drew you to wanting to be in the pageants?
CHESLIE KRYST: My mom actually was Mrs North Carolina US 2002. She won this pageant for married women and I was 10 or 11 years old. I just remember feeling like my mom was famous. There were kids in my middle school who would ask me for my autograph. People who didn’t know my name before or who I was – I just remember saying that there was something cool about this. I knew at some point that I would compete.
AM: What drew you into wanting to stay in the pageant system in terms of initially competing and whether you plan on still being involved in activities that took place during your reign after the crown?
CK: Yeah! I think what kept me involved was seeing that pageantry could be a springboard into other places and that it could be a platform that you wouldn’t have otherwise had access to. I remember seeing photos of Halle Berry for years competing and she was the first runners up and then she was Miss USA and I was like, “oh my God. She’s an Academy Award-winning actress, I want to be that one day. How cool would that be?" Or seeing careers that people like Kenya Moore has had and to see how people who have been in this system, competed and how they have gone on to be these incredible public figures and I wanted that. I continue to compete not only because I wanted to reap the benefits, but because I was reaping the benefits. You prepare for interviews so your skills in that area are sharpened. You're thinking about what to wear on stage so you’re constantly thinking about styling so you have that more than someone else who may not be focused on what they’re wearing like that. It’s a big high-level goal that even if you don’t win you don’t lose either.
AM: You were recently the co-host of the Miss USA Competition as well as being able to crown the winner, what was that like especially as we’re navigating things in this time of COVID-19 that you were still able to put on a great show that people enjoy watching – especially with it being Graceland in Nashville as well as knowing your reign was over as you passed the baton?
CK: It was so much fun and it was a great transition out of my role into what my new life would be. For the final Miss USA Competition, I was an analyst and it was really cool to be able to go back and forth between the co-host interviewing me on stage and then back of house to talk about what we just saw on stage as well as to hear who I thought would continue to advance. It was so much fun and it was a literal translation of what my transition would be from being on stage and being a titleholder to being the person who assesses what is happening on stage guiding the viewers through what is happening. That was incredible for me and it took away those feelings of what would be sadness for the end of my reign.
AM: You have had the longest reign. What was the platform that you focused on during your time that you wanted people to be aware of?
CK: I focused on Social Justice and also became the Global Impact Ambassador for Dress for Success. I talked about on one hand as Dress for Success as an organization and on the other hand, criminal justice reform as a topic and continuing to advance on this issue obviously on the criminal federal level as well as the state level. Both of these topics were important to me. For Dress for Success, I got to go on a nationwide tour where I would meet with local affiliates and their clients, talk to professional women and to attendees about how important this organization is and how they could continue to support it. I got to see first hand the people that were being benefited by it and that was really important to me.
AM: Clearly you had a lot on your plate. How were you able to do the duties of Miss USA, you’re an attorney as well and also being a correspondent on Extra! How were you able to do all of that at the same time? Doing the prep for this interview, busy for you was an understatement!
CK: I was busy and it was quite a year and a half. Lucky for me, Miss USA is a full time job. So as soon as I won, I took a leave of absence from my law firm so I wasn’t actively practicing law while I was fulfilling my duties as Miss USA. I think that if I had been doing both, it would have been impossible for me to do both well. I did take the time away and now that I have ended my reign, I have decided to refocus on my career as a correspondent in working with EXTRA full time and have been placed on inactive status in North and South Carolina where my licenses were previously active so I’m not practicing law right now.
I mean, it was craziness when I was trying to go from appearances for Miss USA and then sprinting to red carpets to cover for celebrities for EXTRA like Gayle King.
AM: How did EXTRA come about as that’s such a fun show and you’ve been there for over a year!
CS: One of the producers for the show saw me win and she saw some of my interviews and had formed a close relationship with the President of the Miss Universe Organization, Paula Shugart as well as knowing others in the organization and she had served as a judge for us as well. She talked to them about being able to meet me and we talked about being able to do special correspondence. My first 3 interviews were Zendaya, Lizzo and Millie Bobby Brown. I just remember thinking, “wow you guys couldn’t start me off with someone that was less famous?” But Iike that they had confidence and me and in those interviews, they went well and kept bringing me on for assignments and eventually brought me on as a regular correspondent.
AM: What have been some of the most engaging things that you have done in your time as an EXTRA correspondent?
CK: There’s so many! Some of the red carpets have been really cool with actors and celebrities. I think it can be overwhelming sometimes when it’s your first one. I remember my first red carpet it was for a television show that had been turned into a movie. I just remember that there were so many celebrities and I remember Martha Stewart being on the carpet and she was randomly taking a picture on her phone in my direction while I was interviewing someone and I thought, “Martha Stewart is aware of my existence possibly.” That was a cool moment. I have been able to interview some great people like Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Henry Golding a couple of times and he was so sweet. I remember asking him who he was wearing and he said, “my wife dressed me.” She was literally standing behind me and I said, “thank you, you did a great job.” I’ve learned that the celebrities that I meet, they’re just real people and a lot of them are so kind and giving of their time and cool to talk to.
AM: How is it for you to prepare when it’s a one on one interview where you have a set period of time with someone versus something like a red carpet scenario where it’s one right after the other?
CK: For sure. You still try to research on the red carpet and to be aware of celebrities who could possibly be on the red carpet from background information, the movie that they are involved in etc. If it’s an event or a release, you want to know that as well so that you have that general knowledge. For smaller one on one interviews, I have more time to just focus on that person which I like. You don’t have to worry about having that publicist who grabs their client to get them into the next interview or that they’re really really tired after doing 7 interviews on a red carpet. It’s always great when you get a relaxed environment and people feel that they can take their guard down to talk to you. There’s also junkets where they are more like to red carpet and you have that back to back. So you just always have to do that prep.
AM: Tell us about White Collar Glam. It’s such an interesting concept and our readers would love to know more.
CK: It’s a blog that I started years ago as workwear fashion for women. I started it because I remember being in law school and there was a competition that I was preparing for trial bar. We made it through our regional competition and made it to nationals. I made it to nationals for this multiday competition and I brought 3 suits with me and one by one they were ruined while I was there. There was no air conditioning in one court room so I sweated through my suit and you could see the sweat marks from the outside.
The next day, I wore a different suit and it ripped while I walked to the court! So I was left with my last suit which was a little too big for me and it was drowning me. I remember just being frustrated and I was like, “I have this important competition and I need to focus on that, but I’m thinking about this suit and I don’t even know where to get another one.” My trial coach offered to take me to Brooks Brothers to get another one. I didn’t know a lot about it at the time except that it was expensive. My coach offered to buy it for me and I was like, “you can’t buy me a $600 suit.”
Luckily, my fellow competitors who were on my team from my school had banded together and fixed my first suit and we ended up winning the competition. After law school, I wanted to think of a way to create a resource to other women who may have been in my situation. You ruined a suit and didn’t know where to shop, you didn’t know where to get a suit that was affordable, accessories questions etc – I researched this and started to put together my blog. I wrote articles to answer questions that I think every woman has had at some time.
AM: It’s very cool – unfortunate that you ruined your 3 suits!
CK: Right? But it had a happy ending!
AM: Right and it’s something that people definitely could use!
What do you look at in terms of the legacy that you want to leave behind not just with your involvement in the Miss Universe Organization but also just what you’re doing with people?
CK: I hope that people remember that women are multidimensional. This can’t be hammered into society enough! We constantly have to be reminded that just because a woman is beautiful doesn’t mean that they can’t be smart and have an interest to do business ventures. For some people they look at Kim Kardashian who is a beautiful woman and a reality TV star and she built from that but she is incredibly business savvy. She has built this empire because she is driven, works hard and wants to provide for her family. Women are these beautiful creatures who have varied interests and it shouldn’t be limited because society can’t broaden their own perspective! That’s what I hope people will remember about me. I am an attorney but I also like walking around in swimsuits and competing in pageants. It’s one of my favorite areas of competition but in my free time, I will advocate for Dress for Success and love spending time with my family. Women are multidimensional and shouldn’t be limited.
AM: Are there other projects that you have going on that you are able to share?
CK: For sure! Besides working with EXTRA, I have also signed with a few Speaker’s Bureaus that I really love doing. With Miss USA, I loved speaking on women’s empowerment and social justice issues which continue to be important to me. I will continue to do this traveling – well not traveling so much now, but talking largely virtually now about this. Beyond that, I’m also a Diversity Advisor for the law firm that I previously worked for as an attorney. I knew that in the immediate future, I didn’t want to practice law but I connected to my firm in this new capacity so that I could work on inclusion and diversity plans with the firm and helping them to make sure that they are achieving that especially in an industry that lacks diversity and needs help. I’m talking about the entire legal industry as a whole in terms of inclusion, diversity and equity.

THE BACHELORETTE S16. E9. | TAYSHIA + THE SHOWDOWN
If you have yet to see episode 9, spoilers are ahead! Tonight on ABC’s The Bachelorette we get right into it with the impromptu 2 on 1 showdown which has a rose on the line between Bennett and Noah. She talks with both of them in the same setting and is shocked by their level of petty. She then talks with each one privately. In talking with Bennett, he explains that he doesn’t question her integrity and intentions. It seems like she sees his side. Then she talks with Noah and explains that she thinks that he is the common denominator. He defends himself by stating that he was given a “gift” by Bennett and he just wants her to know the kind of person that Bennett is. She says that she will think about it as she needs to be able to focus on finding a man and not being in between their petty drama.
After deliberating, Tayshia explains that she can’t give Bennett the rose and walks him out. When she comes back, she lets Noah know that this is not a win for him and she’s not giving him the rose right now, so he will have to wait until the ceremony. She continues to meet with the guys so that she can focus on the guys that she wants to continue her journey with. In addition to Bennett who was sent home earlier in the evening, Spencer, Demar and Ed are also eliminated.
After a crazy night, JoJo comes by the guys place and lets them know that Hometowns will be next week and she will be meeting with their families. Ben also finds out that he will have a 1-on-1 date. They will hop on a scooter to find their date location. They navigate themselves around the resort to end up enjoying a drink and chatting. She still feels that she is trying to figure out what makes Ben tick and at that moment, she doesn’t know if she would give him a rose. But with a dinner coming up, she will get her answers to make their path clearer than it is at the moment. When they sit down to dinner, Ben explains that he attempted suicide twice and that he owes his sister everything as she saved him, even though she has no idea that this happened. He also shares that he went to therapy and was intentional about it so that he could be the best person that he could be. Connecting over his vulnerability in sharing this story made her feel close to him and he received the rose as well as a moment in enjoying their private concert.
The group date includes Zac, Brendan, Ivan, Noah and Riley. Blake finally gets what he wanted - a one-on-one date with Tayshia. Nothing says date-time like a polygraph test. JoJo also lets them know that Tayshia will also be taking this as well. Answers that the detector deems true will have a green light bulb, those that it finds false are red and if the detector can’t tell, then the orange bulb will light up. Clearly, when she meets up with the guys after the group date, she has a number of questions. First up is Zac! Tayshia will not tolerate cheating and Zac admitted that he had. This is triggering for her and she addresses it as that is why her marriage ended. Zac admits that it was his first girlfriend in 6th grade - so it’s nice that she knows the full story and makes us like Zac even more for her. Brendan explains that as someone who had been previously married that he’s excited about her meeting his parents, but he also wants to make sure that whoever meets them is someone that he knows will not make them feel negative. Riley who even got his name wrong is the one we want to know more about. Apparently, he is sitting on some serious secrets that due to the proximity of Hometowns he has to loop her in on. He lets her know about his family and why the name change took place as well as his family issues. She is so impacted by the guys that she lets them know that she will hold off on giving the rose as it wouldn’t be right to do so and wants to think about it. She leaves the party feeling great and sees Bennett waiting at her place. He pitches himself and lets her know that he loves her. Next week, we’ll be treated to 2 nights (Mon and Tues) of The Bachelorette.
Each night, we’ll tweet The Bachelorette and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!
Each week we will let you know who our faves were last episode and if we’ve changed up since then as it pertains to who we think should go to Hometowns (it will be interesting to see how Hometowns will take place - we’re assuming families will be quarantined) if we were choosing right now! We will also say who we think should take it all. Poor Brendan has responses that are deemed inconclusive which makes Tayshia hesitant. Zac answers that he has cheated on someone which makes Tayshia uncomfortable. Riley is asked his name to set a baseline and the red bulb goes off!
We also suggest a podcast that we’re newly obsessed with, Wondery’s Bachelor Happy Hour which is hosted by Rachel Lindsay (contestant on The Bachelor Season 21; The Bachelorette Season 13) and co-hosted by Becca Kufrin (contestant on The Bachelor Season 22; The Bachelorette Season 14) to get their feedback!
LAST EPISODE
We cheered on Ben, Ivan, Brendan and Zac. We felt that Zac would propose to her and that she would accept.
WEEK 9 (TAYSHIA’s 5th)
When it comes to Hometown’s we think that it will be Ben, Brendan, Ivan and Zac - but we still think Zac will find love.

9 ACCESSORIES TO TAKE WITH YOU TO THE POOL
Attending a pool party can be so exciting, especially when the temperature is just right for the fun and the sun is shining. But, before taking the plunge, you have to have the best accessories with you for an unforgettable experience. These top ten accessories should make your next pool adventure a blast:
Pool Toys
Your pool experience won’t be complete without cool pool toys for you to enjoy. For that flawless summer selfie, get a stylish inflatable unicorn, flamingo, or swan float. Beach balls and foam noodles are also good options.
2. Sunblock
Feeling the warm summer sun directly on your face is always nice, but it can also cause skin damage. That’s why bringing sunblock is definitely a good idea. While you have fun in the pool, good sunscreen will protect you from uncomfortable sunburns. Of course, women’s and men’s swim shirt also offers great help. A sunblock provides your skin coverage and the needed protection against the rays of the sun so you can enjoy the water for a longer period.
3. Wireless Speakers And A Playlist
A day in the pool without a playlist is boring. Bring wireless speakers to amp up the entertainment. Note that there are also floating, waterproof models that will allow you to take your favorite tunes into the pool.
Choose louder speaker models so you can hear the music whether you’re going for a swim, playing games, or grabbing food. It’s a good idea to select the songs in advance before going to the pool so you won’t have to change tracks from time to time.
4. All Kinds Of Towels
Make sure you have all kinds of towels for you and you guests (if you’re hosting a pool party)
It can be extremely inviting having an extra-large beach towel spread out on the pool’s edge for a cooling toe dip, or on the grass for comfort. It’s one great way to get you and your friends together for some good old-fashioned chit-chat.
For maximum comfort, you can even layer your towels up. If you’re lying down on a lounge chair, you might want to use towel clips for you to get the towels laying just right. You’ll have more time to relax because it’ll mean less fidgeting in your chair.
5. Umbrellas
In the summer or the late spring, most parties in the pool take place on sunny, hot days. Even though celebrating that seasonal warmth is nice, especially after a wet spring or long winter, you may want to escape the rays of the sun from time to time. To provide just the perfect touch of shade, you need a sizeable and solid patio umbrella.
6. Lounge Chairs
Lounge chairs are where you could recline and soak up some sun. Invest in a few comfortable loungers if you don’t have one yet. They’re must-haves when throwing a pool party. There are tons of looks and unique styles to choose from, so you’ll surely find the right chairs to match the pool area’s look and feel.
7. Coolers
Having fun in the pool under the hot summertime sun requires ice-cold beverages in your hand from time to time. That’s why it’s essential to have a cooler to keep your drinks icy cold. Here are tips to ponder upon:
Always have more ice than how much you think you’ll need.
Make sure that ice doesn’t melt faster by keeping the cooler in the shade.
Coolers aren’t only for drinks. On a hot day, eating chilled snacks, veggies, and fruits after taking a good dip in the pool is also beyond satisfying.
Some coolers are able to float in the water; they’re the ones you’d want to buy and bring if you like grabbing a drink without the need to get out of the water.
Bring at least two coolers—one for water and soda, and one for adult beverages. Other drinks, like juice, can also be added to soda and water, especially when kids are joining the party. Just forget about energy drinks.
8. Insulated Cups
Play or lounge all day with icy cold drinks for hours. Insulated koozies, tumblers, bottles, or cups can help in ensuring that your drinks stay chill for a longer period. They also come in different colors and prints, so make sure to match your vibe when choosing one.
9. Backyard Grill
Pool parties and grilled foods go hand in hand. After that long afternoon of poolside play and swimming, you and your family will surely love a fresh hotdog or burger. For dessert, nothing beats roasting marshmallows after mealtime over a fire table.
Final Thoughts
While there are many ways to make a day at the pool great, bringing the must-have pool accessories mentioned and discussed above can really make a difference. From pool toys to poolside drink makers, you can’t go wrong having them within arm’s reach for you, as well as your family and guests.
ATHLEISURE LIST | STICKY'S FINGER JOINT
During the summer of 2019, Athleisure Mag's team headed to the Liberty National Golf Course for The Northern Trust tournament. The night before the tournament launched we were treated to a fun party at the course and got our first taste of Sticky's Finger Joint which is known for their sauces and chicken.
Since 2012, this eatery has grown from it's Greenwich Village location and now includes 13 locations between NorthJersey and an array of neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn. They have also been featured on Food Network's 3 Days to Open with Bobby Flay. This month, they will be opening their 14th location in Philadelphia.
It’s worth noting that their fried fingers, grilled fingers and bite-sized poppers are made from farm-raised, antibiotic and hormone-free chicken (and their mushroom poppers are made from crimini mushrooms, vegan tempura batter and panko breadcrumbs). They use local ingredients to make their 18 different homemade sauces inspired by cuisines from around the world. Between all those choices, plus sandwiches, wraps, salads, nachos and French fry baskets, there are literally quadrillions of different theoretical options on the menu.
SFJ also offers vegetarian fingers that are made with a mushroom-based protein. They have the following sauces that are vegan: Nashville Numb, SalsaVerde, and Thai Sweet Chili.
SFJ is available for delivery and takeout at all our locations.
Earlier this year, SFJ started RandomActofStickys where they donated individually packaged meals to first responders. In addition to sending meals on behalf of their own guests' inquiries and local hospitals, they partnered with NoshesforNurses, led by Jill Zarin and Ally Shapiro to send meals to nurses and first responders that were nominated by their fans. From this initiative, they donated over 800 meals.
For their most recent store opening, they ran a campaign called Basket4Basket and matched the number of small baskets sold in partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Harlem. They donated over 300 meals to kids going back to school

BEST IDEAS FOR A FIRST FITNESS DATE WITH A PARTNER
Best ideas for a first fitness date with a partner
There’s an adage about opposites attracting. But for the majority of singles seeking romance, a more potent incentive is finding someone who shares their interests and passions. One activity with universal appeal is keeping fit, always an ideal subject for prospective partners to enjoy together. A fitness date is a great solution for athletes and people who are demanding on their figure. Singles website helps design unusual dating concepts.
1. Morning run - good way to start your date
Running has been proved to be one of the best forms of exercise you can undertake. Most gyms have treadmills, not only allowing you to develop your leg muscles and boost cardiovascular activity, but you can plug headphones into the apparatus, or watch virtual scenes unfolding as you complete your circuits.
Within a fitness center, you and your partner can select machines and run side-by-side, chatting as you go, encouraging when either of you shows any sign of flagging! You can also pause the running equipment for a breather or to allow drinks of water, just as you would in the real world. But in terms of improving your heart health – and equally important, your mental wellbeing – this form of keep fit is ideal because you don't even need to take out a gym membership.
Treadmills make organized running exercises seem a bit like a chore. But you and your partner could enjoy your morning run wherever happens to be most appropriate on your doorstep - the world is your oyster. Even in built-up urban areas, town planners will have factored in parks and other recreation facilities where you can not only enjoy the physical aspect, but you can relish the scenery. Choose different locations for your daily runs, or pay frequent visits to those destinations you particularly enjoy. Scientists will tell us humans naturally evolved to run over the millennia, so there can be no excuses for not indulging in what our bodies have been designed for!
2. Work out together at the gym
Gyms and leisure centers have become one of the key social hubs of the modern era. They are uniformly well-designed and welcoming arenas, and many will offer joint membership schemes for you and your partner to take advantage of.
There is every chance you will enjoy doing different workout routines, particularly if you have differing fitness levels. You could spend some time exercising separately, working on whatever equipment most suits you. Then, at a pre-designated time, you could meet up at the apparatus you share an affinity for. Perhaps you could step away from the treadmills and convene at a quieter part of the room to lift some weights together, catching up with some amorous chat as you are doing so!
3. Dinner: candles and healthy food - great end of the day
While doing exercise feels tremendous in terms of the positives it brings to your physical and mental health, can it ever be described as 'fun' in the truest sense of the word?! There are other things you could be doing – savoring a meal, watching a blockbuster movie, playing computer games, performing athletics in the bedroom – that seem much more deserving of that three-letter word.
So it’s always important to plan ahead. If you have arranged to spend part of your day sweating it out at the leisure center, a terrific incentive would be to know you’ve got something even more exciting to look forward to. How about a healthy feast?
Dating is traditionally associated with dining, especially in those four or five-star restaurants that will make any occasion especially worthwhile. But the only issue with eating pre-prepared meals is that you have no control over what the chef adds to his ingredients. There will always be healthy options on any menu, such as tasty salads, but even these might be generously garnished in fatty dressings. A better option would be to indulge in a home-cooked meal.
Preparing this together would be a romantic activity in itself. There are countless recipes for you to tackle, whether you pop down to your local bookstore and select some healthy cookbooks, or download recipes from an appropriate website.
As the culinary delight you have collaborated in creating is slow-cooking in the oven, why not make the most of the period of anticipation by lighting some candles, then getting into a mutual massage session? Just picture that scenario for a moment. The flickering candles, soft and alluring music in the background, the aroma of the impending feast wafting over the room, then you and your partner taking turns to explore each other's bodies, rubbing away any muscle tension. Just don't get so carried away that your passion gets interrupted by the smell of burning from the kitchen!

THE BACHELORETTE S16. E8. | TAYSHIA + JOJO
If you have yet to see episode 8, spoilers are ahead! Tonight on ABC’s The Bachelorette we see that JoJo Fletcher is on tonight’s episode! Chris is taking his kid to college so she will be hosting this week - which is so fun (we also love that she can design a house, flip a house and has an amazing Etsy collab filled with fab decor). The first date is with our Style Director’s dear friend, Franco Lacosta (he has been apart of a number of the dates that involves photography and keeping the memories of that date) who styled the date, photographed it and had pieces from his line, Franco Lacosta NY as well. Tayshia and Zac had a fun date of different outfits wearing eveningwear and bridal. The date continued with their dinner which allowed Zac to share things that he went through from getting a brain tumor, beginning to take medications, getting married and realizing that he went down a dark road that led him to a 4 month stay in rehab. The very rehab facility that he attended, he is now on the board. We liked Zack initially when we first met him so we’re glad that he is continuing on as he will get the rose.
A group date of art and expression is next on the list. The guys will need to sketch a nude couple (although they were thinking that they would be stripping down again). Bennett gets the chance to sit with Tayshia as they are making their artwork. It’s essentially an arts and crafts date that allows them to share more about one another. She ends up hanging out everyone later on in the group date and getting to know them more. We find out more about Ben how he battled an eating disorder which is a topic that people don’t think about as it pertains to men. We have always liked Ben and we think that he’s definitely on Tayshia’s mind for sure! Tayshia gives a rose during the group date to Ben and it’s not just because he got buck naked during the artistic portion, but him sharing his story.
For Tayshia’s one on one date with Eazy, they decide to conquer their fears and go on a ghost hunt on the property that they are staying at. We were so excited to see how they were progressing and learned that she felt that she couldn’t get to where he was and ultimately, sent him home! This was a surprise for sure as we thought that he was definitely in the lead.
WIth Eazy being sent home, JoJo comes in letting the guys know that the cocktail party is still happening, but prior to that she will need to speak with Bennett and Noah to find out about the petty drama that is taking place. JoJo also shares that there is no way that both of them will be able to stay and one will be sent home prior to continuing on.
Prior to the cocktail party, we see Noah and Bennett waiting on Tayshia. After going back and forth, Bennett leaves and comes back with a present for Noah, It’s a series of gifts that refer to the fact that Bennett feels that Noah is young and too immature. When Tayshia arrives, she tries to let them speak but comes to the conclusion that she will not continue with their mutual childish games. We’ll have to wait until next week.
We cheered on Ben, Ivan and Eazy and added Brendan because Tayshia seemed to have an instant connection with them. We felt that Brendan would propose to her and that she would accept.
WEEK 7 (TAYSHIA’s 3rd)
When it comes to Hometown’s we think that it will be Ben, Brendan, Ivan and Zac - but we still think Zac will find love.

HOW TO AVOID EATING SO MUCH DURING THE HOLIDAYS
The holidays are steadily approaching. Even though many more people are staying home due to COVID-19, it isn’t stopping the festivities. From preparing a big feast for one to downing some eggnog, a little pandemic isn’t going to stop the feast.
If you’ve been trying to keep the pounds off, however, this can be a nightmare. This article will help you be on the right track.
Understanding Why We Eat More
Many of us eat more during the winter season, and there are several reasons for this. It can vary from person to person, of course, but in general, it boils down to these reasons:
· There are yummy foods available during the holidays that you can’t get any other time. From holiday cookies to pumpkin pie, it’s hard not to put down the fork.
· Everyone else is doing it. Peer pressure is definitely a reason for you wanting to eat more during the holidays.
· When it gets colder, there is a natural instinct to want to eat more.
· We tend to drink more during the holidays. Alcohol has plenty of calories, and many of us underestimate how much a cup of eggnog has.
· Finally, wintertime can bring depression. One symptom of depression is wanting to eat more.
By knowing why we eat more, it can help us control how we eat. Eating is a major part of controlling weight. A bit of exercise is as well, but it’s hard to outrun a big holiday meal.
Cut Back or Replace Certain Foods
This holiday season, be mindful of what you eat. There are many different foods and drinks that are high in calories, and by replacing them or cutting back on them, you can save calories. Some examples include:
· Eggnog. It’s a calorie sinkhole. If you’re going to have a drink, look for holiday-themed seltzers, which tend to be low in calories.
· Pies. Pie can have a lot of calories. Eat a smaller slice if you’re going to have it.
· Dark-skinned meat. Eating white turkey tends to be low in calories, so go for that. Country ham is another meat that has plenty of calories.
· Cookies. It’s hard to eat just one, which is why you may want to avoid them.
For some people, their diet or calorie count may allow for an occasional indulgence. With that said, it’s always important to see how many calories you’re eating and what the damage is.
Pretty Much All Thanksgiving Foods Need to Be Eaten in Moderation
Minus some white turkey without the skin, all the Thanksgiving foods are calorie rich. There’s a reason we associate the holiday with our bellies being full and feeling sleepy.
Even the fruits and veggies. That green bean casserole is packed with calories, and so is the cranberry sauce. Not to mention, who doesn’t go into a Thanksgiving meal without expecting to eat a slice of pie?
Having it on one day is okay, but you may want to think twice about having leftovers. If you do, be mindful.
Mood Eating
Many of us overindulge on the holidays due to boredom or depression. If you feel this way, it’s important to find a distraction. For example, you may find it beneficial to turn on a movie or try a hobby when you feel the urge to eat.
Alternatively, have some healthy snacks nearby, such as fruit. This can satisfy those cravings without giving you too many calories.
Be Healthy on Other Fronts
If you aren’t getting enough sleep, you may feel hungrier. Also, being sedentary can make you feel hungry. By getting enough exercise and sleep, it can reduce your chances of overindulgence during the holidays.
It’s Okay to Mess Up
With all that said, few people are going to be perfect this holiday season. Maybe you saw some delicious-looking cookies at the store and ate too much. Not to mention, who ends up eating perfectly during Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, or other holidays? Very few. Having a day to indulge a little is okay, and if you end up eating too much outside those days, it’s not the end of the world. The important thing is to do better next time.
Seeking Help
With all that said, if you’re eating too much due to depression or another mental health issue, it’s easier said than done to control yourself. It’s important to seek therapy if you have chronic depression, anxiety, or if you just need to speak someone during the holidays and beyond.
More people are seeing the benefits of online therapy like that with BetterHelp therapists, which may be beneficial to you. May you have the best possible holidays this year.

5 SECRETS TO A HAPPY BRAIN AND LIFE
There are countless reasons to seek out happiness. Having a happy brain can often make us more physically fit, and it can also improve our social lives. As they say, “happy brain happy life.”
A lot of times, people will blame their circumstances for the fact that they are not happy. But the truth is that we make our own happiness. It is all about the outlook that we have of the world. While there is a chemical in the brain that makes you happy, there are ways to stimulate this.
So, what can you do to improve your outlook on life, and how can you make yourself happy?
In this article, we’ll look at the five habits of a happy brain.
1. Acknowledge Your Feelings
At every opportunity, you should consider how you feel about any given situation. If you are in touch with your emotions, you will be able to process them. If you distract yourself from how you feel, you will eventually find that you feel numb.
When you are not in touch with your emotions, it can lead to depression. Spend some time each day thinking about how you are feeling and learn to process your emotions.
2. Get Some Exercise
A happy brain is a healthy one, and a healthy brain is part of a healthy body. Getting exercise helps you because it releases endorphins, which make you feel good.
Check out the benefits to hiking, as even going for a walk will help your mental health. If you are feeling more active, you could take up running as this is a great way to lift your mood.
3. Think About Good Memories
If you think about the past, are you thinking about happy memories or sad ones? If you think about positive memories, then you will feel good. If you dwell on the negative ones, it stands to reason that it will bring you down.
Create lists of happy memories. This will help you to focus on the good times instead of gravitating towards the bad.
4. Think Positive
If you think about the negatives in life all the time, you will put yourself in a bad mood. It is important to have a healthy, positive outlook.
Make a list of everything that you have to feel good about and thankful for.
5. Avoid Fear
Fear is the root of many problems in our lives and should be avoided at all costs. Fear inhibits us and stops us from reaching our true potential.
You can overcome fear by taking time out and breathing. Facing your fears is one of the best ways of putting them into perspective. Another good technique is to explore the evidence to prove to yourself that the worst is not necessarily going to happen.
Happy Brain Happy Life
If you want a happy brain, you will need to work at it. Nobody but yourself can make you feel happy. Remember, you are worth the effort.
