We always love a food competition show and in Five Star Chef, we get to know more about the fine dining world and how Langham Hotel in London executes their vision. Each challenge focuses on another portion of the menu and the kinds of dishes that they offer. We also get to see key staff at the property, how they present the service of the hotel to guests as well as well known people in the industry!

All episodes can be enjoyed now and we hope that there will be an additional season whether it's at this hotel or another 5-Star property that we'll have on our list to visit next!

L.A. MADE: THE BARBIE TAPES

We've all seen a number of promotions that have been focused around the Barbie movie that dropped on July 21st. We've been listening to L.A. Made's The Barbie Tapes by LAist Studios which looks at the origin story of this doll. Birthed from a European doll that was a gag gift of sorts and meant to be an adult sexy toy, it would transform to a doll that has been a symbol for many everywhere in terms of occupational roles, the proof that women can do anything as well as being increasingly more representative by showcasing an array of sizes, abilities, race, and more.

This podcast also goes into the business of Barbie and how the team created and infused these concepts of her that we continue to enjoy in the present day.

We remember seeing the original Fatal Attraction with Michael Douglas (Wall Street, The Game, Ant-Man franchise) and Glenn Close (Air Force One, Damages, Tehran).

We watched how emotions went from an illicit passion to aggression to stalking and how those involved navigate these relationships which made this an epic thriller!

The Fatal Attraction reboot brings these concepts and feelings together with Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek, Dr. Death, The Affair) and Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex, Party Down, Fleishman is in Trouble) pick up the characters of Dan Gallagher and Alex Forrest. Although the series is based on affairs, we see what happens after and how those involved deal with the fallout of his actions.

This mini-series focuses on the true crime story of the death of Betty Gore by Candy Montgomery. Whether you saw Hulu's version, Candy or not, Love & Death is worth taking a look at how this story involving members of a small community interact with one another when this crime and murder trial took place. Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers franchise, Wandavision, Doctor Strange in the Mutiverse of Madness) and Jesse Plemons (Vice, The Irishman, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie) showcase these characters in another light.

We suggest that as you watch the 7 episodes, you also listen to the companion podcast of the same name as it brings insight to the series with those in front of and behind the camera. In partnership with Texas Monthly which reported the story when it came out during the trial, journalists share what took place to those involved after the trial, the Texas justice system, the culture at that time, and other insights.

We always enjoy when QCODE drops a new series that takes us into another story that is guaranteed to be an immersive audio experience!

In The Foxes of Hydesville, we go back to the 1800's where Leah Fox (Carey Mulligan) has been estranged from her brother and teenage sisters. In this true story about the Fox sisters, we learn that they are not welcome in their town due to being mediums.

On the request of her brother, she takes them to where she lives and works to keep them safe while realizing that they have harnessed a power that is not only lucrative, but ultimately creates the social-religious movement of Spiritualism in the nineteenth century.

We got hooked on Max Original's The Bridge and quickly binged Season 1 and 2. We never thought that watching people come together to make a bridge from their island to a location that's at a designated spot. Along the way, they have mini challenges, have to deal with team dynamics and a set period of time to complete the build. The 1st season dropped last year and the current season dropped earlier this summer.

You'll never look at teamwork in the same way! Who knew that the power of building alliances, listening to others and keeping the course would be a reality show that we would want to know more about!

X MARKS THE SPOT: THE LEGEND OF FORREST FENN

Throughout the pandemic, we enjoyed listening to podcasts that talked about wealthy individuals who decided to create treasure hunts around the world. Inevitably, there are clues, it creates havoc as people go to the extreme to find them, and the results can be less than expected.

In X Marks the Spot: The Legend of Forrest Fenn, we get to hear about Forrest Fenn's backstory, a wealthy man who believes he will die soon and decides to create a treasure hunt. We get to hear about his process in creating the clues and eventually finding that he in fact is not dying as soon as thought - but he continues to allow the game to be played.

Although he doesn't give hints to those who are playing, from time to time he does clarify certain points. Although Forrest is dead now, we get a breakdown on what the clues mean, those who felt that they had found or almost found the treasure as well as hearing about those who begged for the game to stop due to safety issues! This true story is one that is a great listen and allows you to interpret what it woudl mean if you had the opportunity to go on this quest.

From the creators of Netflix's Emily in Paris, we meet Michael (Neil Patrick Harris), a real estate broker whose life seems like it's perfect. His longtime boyfriend moves out and breaks up with him. Now he is left to start all over again as a man in his 40s as he goes back into the dating scene. We also see how he leans on his friends and work as he navigates his life.

The Final Season

We can't believe that it's the final season of Better Call Saul. The last few seasons we have watched the transformation of Jimmy McGill to who we will know as Saul Goodman man, played by Bob Odenkirk (Fargo, Breaking Bad, Nobody).

This final season has brought a number of our favorite characters together as well as other glimpses of those that we have not seen in awhile. In this timeline, we're still ahead of the events that will take place in Breaking Bad. As we wonder whether we will see Walter White (Bryan Cranston - Breaking Bad, Your Honor, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul - Big Love, Westworld, The Path)

With 13 episodes in the final season and a mid-season break as well, it's the perfect time to make sure that you catch up with the cartel, legal maneuvers and more.

True crime is always our go-to genre when we're listening to our podcasts. There are a number of cases that we have heard told on various shows and The Staircase happens to be one of them. It's also a story that has been covered via documentaries as well as films. HBO Max's limited series of The Staircase shares the incidents that led to the death of Michael Peterson's (Colin Firth - Kingsman: The Secret Service, Bridget Jones's Baby, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) wife, Kathleen (Toni Collette - Pieces of Her, Knives Out, Nightmare Alley).

We're introduced to the family, their life prior to the murder as well as seeing the possible ways that she could have died. We also see how the family dynamics changed as Michael is charged with her death.

We also find out about other suspiscious activity that he has been associated with and how this could shine a light on her death of this true story.

JOURNEY TO 100

In Journey to 100, Jason Hardrath a PE teacher, has a car accident which turns his world around. Even though his doctors think that he will never run again, 7 years later he has the most FKTs (Fastest Known Times - established route at least 5 miles long with 500+ ft of climbing) of anyone on earth and is looking to be the first person ever to set 100 FKT records. This documentary shares his story.

To complete his challenge he wanted to climb Washington's Bulger List, the highest 100 peaks in the state, a lifetime challenge for most that attempt it but Jason, being a teacher, only has 50 days in the summer to complete it.

We have watched PBS' The French Chef, watched Julie & Julia and have read a number of books. There is so much to learn about Julia Child's story and HBO Max's Julia delves in by covering the beginning days of her public access TV show off the success of Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

We see her creating her show behind the scenes, brokering a deal to even getting it on air, innovations that were created for this show that have become staples on our favorite shows and more. We learn the process of writing cookbooks, what's involved in testing recipes as well as what it's like working with publishers. We also meet culinary figures like James Beard as well as known writers like John Updike.

In addition to looking at the beginnings of celebrity chefs and the kinds of portfolios that we have come to know about them, we watch Julia navigate these spheres that didn't have a rule book, the importance of working with friends and family in order to get to where she got to and the importance of her legacy. We highly suggest listening to the official companion podcast, Dishing with Julia after each episode hosted by Kerry Diamond of Cherry Bombe.

THE ULTIMATUM: MARRY OR MOVE ON

We enjoyed seeing Love is Blind which hosted and executive produced by Nick and Vanessa Lachey. They're back with a new show, The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On where couples who have dated for 2 years call an ultimatum where they get married or they go their separate ways. We hear from each couple on which one made the ultimatum or why they feel they need more time.

The couples meet one another, spend time to see who they want to live with for 3 weeks, then they connect with their significant other for 3 weeks and then a decision is made. This is yet another social experiment that delves into interpersonal relationships and is worth continuing to the reunion show as well.

POWER: DON KING

We enjoyed POWER by Somethin' Else where they focused on The Maxwells as well as Hugh Hefner. Season 3 focuses on boxing promoter Don King from his early days, handling the careers of Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Jr and Mike Tyson, his fall from the sport and how his business models have found their way to UFC as well as content creators who have found their way to the sport.

The connection is the house, the architect/owner and a grieving man.

How much privacy are you willing to give up in order to reduce the chaos and clutter of your life? At what point do you decide that managing your life on your terms of more important then simply giving it away?

In this 4 episode limited series, you see the impact of making decisions and how each choice creates a number of options for better and for worse.

Anna Delvey was a NY It Girl heiress on the move and was on the way to create a social club that allowed the elite sect of NYC and artists to come together. Anna worked to get the appropriate funding to ensure that her vision would be everything she thought it could be. She went on a number of meetings, met the right people and even created an inner circle of sorts that kept her finger on the pulse of what was going on.

The only part that was missing was that she was not a rich heiress waiting for her trust fund or for her father not to cut her off. She was a woman filled with ambition ready to move the chess pieces that she needed and left debts and embarrassment to those that connected with her that didn't know her full story.

In Inventing Anna, Shonda Rhimes delves into this story that has been the subject of a number of podcasts to dig deep into the players involved and additional information on this story that continues to evolve.
