KNOW-HOW: AESTHETIC MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO TREAT YOUR SCARS

March 25, 2022

Scars are unpleasant and make people feel uncomfortable while meeting new people. To understand what scars are for, they help the body repair and replace lost or damaged skin and made of fibrous tissue. Everybody may experience scars that can occur everywhere on the body. A scar's composition varies as well. It can be colored, flat, or bumpy. It may itch or hurt and, for some, be risky. Many injuries can change the appearance of a scar—a scar's appearance, influenced by skin type and location.

Additionally, there are numerous causes for a person to have visible spots. A small or easily concealed scar is not always nasty. Whether it is or not, you may be wondering if there is a way to treat it that may cause it to disappear or at the very least improve its appearance. One of the best ways to resolve the scar problem is consulting and finding the best aesthetic medical equipment.

Today's piece will assist individuals experiencing difficult days due to noticeable scars and offer knowledge with the best aesthetic medical equipment. But first, let's identify different types of spots common to people.

Guide to Understand Scar Type

Scars come in a variety of shapes and sizes, including the following:

  • Contracture scars

  • Acne scars

  • Keloid scars

  • Hypertrophic scars

Contracture scars

Burned skin causes contracture scars, and these scars can make your skin tighter, making it hard to move. Also, contracture scars may go deeper, affecting muscles, nerves, and skin. There are some different surgical options for contractures. Skin grafts or skin flaps, a Z-plasty, and tissue expansion are some of the things that can help.

Acne scars

If you've had much acne, you've probably have scars. Itchy breakouts can leave scars if they penetrate deep enough into the skin. Acne scars range from deep pits to angular or wave-like spots. There are various methods for getting rid of acne scars. It's critical to identify your scars before treating them. Remember, treatment works differently for each kind.

Keloid scars

Keloid scars are groups of scar tissue that form at the site of a wound on the skin. Most of the time, they're reddish-brown or darker than the rest of the skin is and made up of collagen, which the body makes when it heals from a wound. After skin damage, keloid scars may start to show up on your skin for a year. Radiation, laser surgery, surgery, silicon dioxide, pressure therapy, cryotherapy, and silicone dioxide are all ways to treat your condition.

Hypertrophic scars

Hypertrophic scars and keloid scars look the same to the naked eye, but they are not the same thing. Hypertrophic scars may be easier to treat because they only grow in the area of the original skin defect. However, these scars may also be red, thick, and increased. In the first few weeks, hypertrophic scars are likely to start forming. After that, hypertrophic scars may get better on their own, but it's not always the case. It could take a year or more.

Aesthetic Medical Equipment to Treat Scars

Treatment options for deeper scars vary depending on the context. Surgical removal, dermabrasion, and laser surgery are examples. Therefore, it is critical to find a trusted and licensed consultant before trying any scar treatment.

One of the popular ways to treat scars is through aesthetic medical equipment. It includes cosmetic lasers, radiofrequency energy, ultrasound technology, and more. For example, skin conditions, cellulite reduction, and pigmentation used cosmetic lasers in medical and beauty spas.

The prominent aesthetic medical equipment today is the Sofwave technology. In addition, Ablative carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers, which help eliminate scars, are the most frequent laser technology used for aesthetic treatments. The aesthetic medical equipment, CO2 lasers use tailored light beams to resurface the skin.

Here's how it works: You can get rid of dead skin cells and water molecules by passing electricity through a gas-filled tube. The tube produces a specific wavelength of short, focused beams of light. This method causes new collagen in the skin's deeper dermis layer, making the skin look and feel more firm and smooth in the long term.

Takeaway

The best way to help your recovery and healing is to follow all instructions. Your physician will tell you what you can and can't do. People can't get rid of all of their scars, and you must remember that many things will play a role in how well your scar heals. Some scars don't improve for more than a year after treatment.

Scar treatments are now more successful and safe than in the past, thanks to the development of high-tech aesthetic medical equipment by Sofwave technology. Ensure that you connect with the trusted and most reliable treatment and physician for your scar problems. They make someone look better by using non-invasive methods and cosmetic procedures that don't require surgery or hurt.

AM JUL SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW, NAVIGATING FIRST CLASS.jpg

SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW | NAVIGATING FIRST CLASS

August 2, 2018

This month we chatted with the Cabin Crew of Emirates Airlines to find out some tips to keep in mind from packing to being active onboard. Their tips are worth noting when flying first class domestically and internationally.

GET PACKING

Keep a Goodie Bag

No matter where you're headed, there are essentials you will always need. While airlines offer great onboard amenities, keep a ziploc bag at the ready and simply replenish the small bottles as needed. They suggest the recently updated The Urban Travellers collection, which is comprised of different pouches in a variety of sizes, styles and colors.

Assemble a Capsule Collection

Create outfits and pieces that are easily coordinated to create different looks. Think basics: black pants, white jeans, neutral t-shirts, jean jacket. Wear your bulkiest items on the plane to free up space in your luggage and keep you warm during travel.

Don't Forget Statement Jewelry

Bring a pair of statement earrings and bangles to add that pop of color.

Roll or Lay Flat?

The great debate! Roll your clothes to maximize space, or lay them flat to minimize creases. Fill suitcase gaps with socks, belts, intimates and hair tools to create a flat surface before laying down clothing.

Prepare for the Plane

Your brain and body will always thank you for a carefully constructed carry-on.

The Emirates' Cabin Crew recommends a few hydrating tools (lip balm, body lotion and moisture spray) to keep you feeling fresh while you're flying the friendly skies.

STAY ACTIVE ONBOARD

The crew suggests a few exercises that you can do while you're traveling so that you can stay loose.

Feet Circling

Circle your feet at the ankles.

>> 20 times each foot.

Bottom Lifts

Lift one buttock off the seat, tightening the muscles on that side. Hold to the count of 5.

>> Repeat each side 5 times.

Knee Presses

Press the knees and thighs together and tighten buttock muscles. Hold to the count of 5.

>> Repeat 5 times.

Foot Presses

Lift heels and press toes into the floor, then lift your toes and press heels into the floor.

>> Do this 10 times for each foot.

AM JUN HAIR INFLUENCE WITH JEN ATKIN.jpg

HAIR INFLUENCE WITH JEN ATKIN

July 6, 2018

Known as "The Most Influential Hairstylist in the World," via New York Times, Jen Atkin has styled the tresses and has the most loyal clientele of some of the influential people including Kourtney Kardashian, Katy Perry, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Chrissy Teigen, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid. In addition to being a Celebrity Hairstylist, she launched OUAI haircare line in 2016, a range of Beauty Works hair extensions, her line of Chloe + Isabel hair accessories and works closely with Dyson to bring their innovative Supersonic blowdryer to market.

With a passion to unite the hair industry and to create a community for hairstylists, she created ManeAddicts.com  in 2014 and provides access to top hairstylists as well as featuring products and instructional videos. Due to its success, she expanded to Mane University, a global education resource that brings top stylists to major cities around the world to inspire hairdressers.

We took a moment to chat with Jen about her career, her favorite summer hair looks as well as a new pop, OUAISPACE that is being held at Gurney's in Montauk.

ATHLEISURE MAG: What was the ah ha moment that drew you to being a hairstylist? Tell us what your journey has been as you have built your name in the industry to being one of the most sought after hairstylists?

JEN ATKIN: I’ve always loved doing hair and was obsessed with Natalie Imbruglia’s short haircut in her ’Torn’ music video when I was a teenager in Utah. No one could give me the cut I wanted, so I went to the store, bought a pack of shaving razors, and started cutting my own hair. Soon I was cutting all my friends’ hair in my parent’s garage. After high school, I drove to California with literally only $300 and my Honda Civic hatchback. I called al the salons in Allure's beauty directory until finally someone returned my call and I started working as a receptionist at Estilo Salon in Beverly Hills. I remember running out to feed meters for Bette Midler and I was so excited and thought “I could move back home that was enough for me” lol.

I’ve just really worked hard and tried to be an honest good person.  I’m so lucky I’ve had such support from my clients and friends.

AM: In 2016, you created OUAI - why did you want to add a haircare line to your ecosystem?

JA: It felt very odd to me that there were a lot of men in boardrooms making decisions about what women want for our hair. I wanted to create the first product line a community helped create, promoting a realistic lifestyle that feels inclusive. It was important for me to have a group of women talking to other women about their haircare needs.  I think that more brands are trying to empower women. I want to change the conversation in business and beauty! I wanted to stop making the conversation only about women being pretty and start celebrating the spirit and power of being a woman in business.

AM: Why and how did the partnership between Gurney's Resorts come about?

JA: We’ve had pop-ups in NY & LA before so it only felt natural to partner w/ Gurney’s in Montauk.

AM: Will there be future integrations of OUAISPACE of this nature like this and if so why did you start at Gurney's first?

JA: Yes! The look and feel of Gurney’s is so relaxing and just feels easy. Which goes hand-in-hand with what OUAI’s aesthetic is.

AM: With summer hair dreams in our minds what are 3 products that are a must to give you perfect beach hair?

JA: OUAI Rose Hair & Body Oil – Rosehip Oil reduces the appearances of scars and redness and is known to lock in moisture, so it’s great for both skin and hair.

OUAI Sun of a Beach Ombré Spray – In the summer people want to spend more time outdoors and less time sitting at their salon. There are new trending ingredients (like the coconut water in our Sun of a Beach) that help keep hair hydrated and give this fun throwback product a modern update.

OUAI Wave Spray – Give your hair natural wave & body without the crunchiness and it’s made with rice protein instead of salt so it won’t dry out your hair.

Christophe Robin Prickly Pear Balm - This is a non-sticky, multipurpose balm infused with all butter and oils to nourish the hair and skin so you can use it all over. Rub some together in your hands and rub it on your ends for a more textured look. To tame frizz, rub a little on your hair and smooth down those flyaway. And for curls, it can be used to redefine and add shine/hold.

AM: What are your favorite products from your line?

JA: My favorites would definitely be the OUAI Treatment Masque because I love the individual packettes that are perfect for throwing in my purse or gym bag and doing a treatment while I work out. I’m also obsessed with the OUAI Dry Shampoo Foam because it’s unlike any other hair products on the market. You can extend between washes 3-4 days. It’s dry shampoo on steroids. You need it in your purse, your gym bag and your hair right now.

AM: What classic updo hairstyle do you suggest should become our go to look this summer? Let us know how we can achieve it and what products we need to have on hand to make it happen.

JA: I suggest the Textured High Pony

1. Pull hair in back into half pony

2. Add the rest of hair and secure with  an elastic at the crown of the head

3. Use OUAI Dry Texture Foam to pony for added volume and fullness

4. Finish with a toothbrush and OUAI Medium Hair Spray to smooth flyaways

AM: When you're not working, where do you go for a cocktails and a great meal, where do you work out and where can we find you shopping?

JA: I love Jon & Vinny's, Alfred Coffee, Barneys New York, Soho House Malibu.

SIP THE WORLD WITH JACK MAXWELL

June 1, 2017

We're fans of shows that transport us to new locations - whether we actually visit or not. A new twist on the classic travel show includes the stories and cultures that Travel Channel's host, Jack Maxwell encounters on Booze Traveler.  On his way to Tahiti, Jack told us about the show, where he'd like to film and what he's learned doing the show.

ATHLEISURE MAG: Tell us about your background - how did you become the Booze Traveler and had you ever bartended before or done anything in the alcohol industry?

JACK MAXWELL: Growing up shining shoes in the bar rooms of South Boston, I fell in love with the magical combination of booze, travel, adventure and storytelling. My neighborhood was filled with divey pubs and all sorts of characters who loved a drink and a story.

AM: Although the show follows you drinking through various countries, it's not really about drinking per se, but more of an Anthony Bourdain style (which we're fans of too) of the culture behind why one drinks or the history behind certain beverages. Why do you think that this resonates with viewers and what have you learned after doing this for 3 seasons?

JM: Maybe “Booze Traveler” resonates because we meet such interesting people, with really great stories. Hopefully my gratitude for that, along with my natural curiosity and joy for life, comes across.

AM: How important is interacting with the culture and sharing it with viewers of The Travel Channel?

JM: It's what the show is all about. The drink just gets us into the scene. It's all about the people and the culture.

AM: We loved when you drank vodka at Lake Baikal in Siberia and also enjoyed the episode of the Smoothie in Belize - what was your favorite country to enjoy a drink and what was it?

JM: I really loved having an authentic Mojito in Cuba. Drinking great Port while sailing the river through the Douro Valley in Portugal was another favorite. Having cocktails with the Conch Republic in Key West while fighting the Coast Guard, and zip lining through downtown Las Vegas with a Dean Martin impersonator were both fun, unforgettable experiences.

AM: Where would you like to film next and what beverage story would you like to learn about there?

JM: Having filmed Booze Traveler in roughly 50 countries - covering six continents - has been wonderful, a real eye-opener. I would love to find a native tribe somewhere yet to be discovered and have a drink with them. That would be fantastic.

AM: The show is an hour, but we see you enjoying a number of beverages and finding a particular drink, what is it like when you are taping for one of these shows?

JM: I probably don't put away as much booze as it seems. A lot of what you see on the show happens off camera, too. The camaraderie is real. The travel can be a grind, but the crew is great and we keep each other loose.

AM: With all of the traveling and beverages, do you detox or cleanse and what workouts do you do?

JM: I like to tell people I only drink at work, which is mostly true. Hard to pass up a nice bottle of wine with dinner though or a celebratory cocktail when I reunite with friends. Don't work out as much as I'd like. We are constantly on the road shooting long days, which I'm exhausted by the end of. I should do a better job of getting to the gym.

AM: What is your personal style in terms of what you wear to go out with friends or to run errands?

JM: Relaxed. Casual. Comfortable.

AM: You take a lot of flights, what is on your playlist and how do you make your travels more comfortable for long flights or for various legs on a trip?

JM: I have a lot of nice relaxing music on my iPod. When I want to get in the mood I play some Stones or Frank Sinatra, as different as those two are. Make sure I have a sleep mask and wax (not foam) earplugs on the plane. The wax kills a lot of the ambient noise; the mask helps you sleep. A few hours here and there make a difference.

AM: How do you manage jet lag - any tips that you can share?

JM: I try to drink as much water as I can. Keeps me hydrated and makes me get up and go to the bathroom. Great for circulation. DVT can be an issue on long flights, although I've never had a problem with it.

AM: When you're in between seasons, what would we find you doing?

JM: Visiting family. Hanging with friends. Resting. Probably won't see me on an airplane.

AM: Can you tell us if there is a season 4 and what locales are on your bucket list?

JM: We are filming season four of Booze Traveler right now. Very excited about the Tahiti episode. So tropically beautiful and naturally exotic. Also, Italy, Costa Rica, Norway and Romania.

AM: What tips do you have for traveling like a pro this summer from packing, essentials for your carry on and when you get to your final destination?

JM: Travel light. You probably don't need as many clothes as you think. Bring comfortable shoes. Don't make too many plans. The trip will be a blur and you'll have covered some distance, but won't remember as much as you should. Go off the beaten path. Duck into a café and talk to strangers. You might be surprised.

AM MAY SIP THE WORLD WITH JACK MAXWELL-4.jpg

AM: Feel free to tell us where we will see you next, whether it's an upcoming project or if you have philanthropies/charities that you are involved in!

JM: Very fortunate to be entrusted with a second show for Travel Channel called “Booze Traveler: Best Bars.” It's a pub crawl through all the best bars in the US. You will find me handing out toys at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Dept. Holiday Toy Drive in Phoenix every Christmas. My lifelong friend, Roy Catalo, is the chairman. One of the great joys in life is seeing the face of an underprivileged kid light up like a Lite-Brite when they pick out a toy they never thought they'd get.
