THE BACHELOR S26. E4. | THINGS ARE COMING TO A HEAD

January 31, 2022

On today’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelor, we continue to hear the drama surrounding Shanae as they head into the cocktail ceremony prior to the rose ceremony. The women know that Clayton Echard wants to talk about what is happening and this makes everyone feel apprehensive.

He lets them know that he needs to address the issue between Shenae and Elizabeth and pulls them outside to chat. He wants to hash out the conflict and to hear both sides.

Shenae shares that after getting shrimp from Elizabeth she decided to make it for the other women. She uses it as an example to show how she was bullied when no one turned when she offered. His face looks exhausted as it seems like he sees this is a pointless effort. So much bickering takes place between the women and Shenae that the part is closed and it’s going straight to the ceremony.

Roses were given to: Marlena, Teddi, Rachael, Mara, Sierra, Gabby, Susie, Jill, Serene, Genevieve, Sarah, Hunter, Lyndsey, Eliza and Shanae.

Clayton sent home: Elizabeth, Melina and Kira.

Post the ceremony, the women debrief about what happened and they realize that they should just be cordial but an arms distance away from her. Shanae tells everyone that she feels that she can talk and not be scared. Jesse Palmer lets them know that they are leaving LA and will be traveling around the world starting with Houston. Clayton is excited that Clarence who lives in Houston pops by his room to hang out. He shares the drama that has taken place in the house and hopes that travel will get everyone on the same page and in a positive mood.

The date card arrives - Rachel receives the 1-on-1 date. They make their way to a pair of horses and find themselves heading to a barbecue. They find that they’re going to make a meal together. It ends up being an easy day and we can see the connection that they have with one another. Their dinner deepens their connection and they leave that for a solo concert by Restless Road. Rachel gets the rose.

Another date card arrives Sarah, Eliza, Teddi, Marlena Jill, Susie, Mara, Sierra, Hunter, Lindsey, Genevieve, Gabby and Shanae are on the group date and will be heading to the stadium. The women feel that this will be an intense date. Serene will be on the 1-on-1 date.

The women wonder what they need to do about the Shanae situation and are concerned about what this means for their group date. They arrive at the stadium where they see Clayton in his tailgating set up. They’re playing games, grilling and having fun. They learn that they will be playing football. The winner will go to the after party and those who lose will be at the hotel.

Hannah Storm and Jesse break the game down and we see that the women are taking this date seriously.

The purple team wins and they’re glad to have time with Clayton and happy that Shanae is not there. Sierra tells Clayton that Shanae is not someone that he can trust and other women in the house also bring this up as well. Shanae decides to come to the after party. She breaks up 1-on-1 time and says that even though she was on the losing team, she deserves to be there. He brings up things that the women shared with him.

We end the episode with Rachel being the only person who has the rose and heading into next week wondering who will make the cut and how long Shanae will actually be continuing during the season.

Each night during the season, we tweet about The Bachelor and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!

Each week we will let you know who our faves were from the last episode and if we’ve changed up since then as it pertains to who we think should go to Hometowns.

We also suggest a podcast that we’ve become obsessed with over the past few seasons, Wondery’s Bachelor Happy Hour to get their feedback!

SEASON 26 - EPISODE 4

Last wee we picked Eliza, Rachel, Sarah and Teddi - we’re going to stay with these girls even though the episode didn’t end with a ceremony.

THE BACHELOR S26. E3. | CLAYTON'S QUEST CONTINUES

January 24, 2022

On today’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelor, we pick up from the previous episode as the fallout from Sierra’s information about Cassidy continues. Although Cassidy dodges the question, she eventually admits that she slept with the friends with benefits a few times, but she is all in with Clayton Echard. Ultimately, he sends her home - even though she has a rose. He also sends home Ency, Tessa and Kate.

There are 3 dates this week - 2 groups and an individual. Jesse Palmer gives the date card to the girls and they find that Serene, Susie, Eliza, Mara, Marlena, Hunter, Geneiveve and Jill are all on a date together. They catch up with Kaitlyn Bristowe on their date where they will share their vulnerabilities with one another. The women and Clayton share sensitive information with one another - to hear about Hunter’s ex-boyfriend having her change her hair and eye color, was really infuriating to hear. Hearing everyone opening up and knowing that the people involved were genuine as opposed to others who could have been on this date, let it be a great experience. At the after-party from this date, he gets more one-on-one time and he even admits that he wishes he could give all of them one and he tells them that. Ultimately, he gives Eliza the rose.

The next date card arrives and is a one-on-one with Sarah. Shanae is annoyed that everyone is nice to one another when she feels that this is a competition and they shouldn’t be happy that someone got a one-on-one date.

Becca Kufrin meets Sarah and Clayton on the date and tells them that they will do a scavenger hunt in their undies in DTLA. It’s a day of yes, while also having people watching them do a number of activities. They do a number of activities that make them uncomfortable, but it helps them bond with one another. At dinner, they talk about Sarah being adopted and she is given the date rose.

The group date includes Gabby, Rachel, Kira, Melina, Lyndsey, Sierra, Teddi, Elizabeth and Shanae - they are going to the beach! Of course, Shanae doesn’t like that Elizabeth is on “her date”. Their date is on the beach and as the girls are hanging out on the sand, Nicole Eggert of Baywatch fame lets them know that she is putting them through some paces. They change into their Baywatch outfits and Shanae is deemed aggressive with Clayton’s body (she only applied sunscreen to his nipples). They learn how to do CPR as well as learning the powerful slomo moves that the show was known for. Shanae goes all in with aggressively kissing him, but ultimately Nicole gives Gabby additional time with him. At the after party from the event, the women are looking forward to a drama free night. They all note that Shanae was pretty crazy throughout the date. Gabby made sure that his sunburn was taken care of by putting aloe on him after he took his shirt off.

Shanae continues to bring the drama and talks about this drama with Elizabeth and how she’s making others not talk to her. In her confessional, she laughs at how Clayton believed her and how she hadn’t intended to cry, but threw that in there for good measure. We know that the producers love keeping castmembers that continue the drama - but this one is just so obvious, fingers crossed that she will be eliminated soon. Shanae attacks the other women on the group date and you can tell that the tide is beginning to turn. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in next week’s episode.

SENT HOME: Cassidy, Ency, Tessa, Kate

RECEIVED A ROSE: Eliza, Sarah,

Each night during the season, we tweet about The Bachelor and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!

SEASON 26 - EPISODE 3

Since last week was a cliffhanger, we stayed with our picks from Episode 1 - Eliza, Ency, Rachel and Teddi. Of course, Ency was eliminated earlier in today’s episode so we’re now adding Sarah to this group of potential Hometowns.

ACTING CHOSE ME WITH CURTISS COOK

January 20, 2022

This month, our DEC ISSUE #72 is covered by Curtiss Cook who has appeared in a number of films that we enjoy including Shutter Island, Netflix's Roxanne Roxanne, and West Side Story to name a few. In addition to commanding the big screen and his work on stage, he has been in countless TV shows as well. He brings a dynamic force to his characters in Netflix's House of Cards and Manifest, NBC's Chicago Med, FX Mayans M.C. and Showtime's The Chi.

We talk with Curtiss about how he got into acting and how he approaches his characters. We also talk about the recent film West Side Story and we're keeping our fingers crossed that we will continue to see him as Douda in the critically acclaimed series The Chi and what led him to this role. We also talk about work behind the camera as well as his work in the upcoming QCODE podcast, The Burned Photo.

ATHLEISURE MAG: What was the moment when you realized that you wanted to be an actor?

CURTISS COOK: You know I don’t know if I can put an exact time on it, but what I can tell you is—I don’t feel like I chose acting, I feel as if it chose me. NO one in my family acted or performed for a living or even casually, so I didn’t have any direct role models, but once I found it, that freedom of being another person and being able to say things I wanted to but couldn’t, learning things about myself and the world… I never looked back!

AM: You have been in so many TV series from The Sopranos, The Bold Type, House of Cards, Mayans M.C., The Chi, as well as movies such as Shutter Island and been on Broadway for The Lion King and Miss Saigon. What are you looking for when you’re reading a character or the script overall in terms of deciding whether you want to be in it?

CC: Hmmm good question… It changes from project to project. Sometimes it may be, “Have I done this kind of role before?” and if I had, “Is there something I can improve upon?” Sometimes it’s, “Does this person move the story forward? If not, is there space for me to make that happen? Or, is this something I NEVER THOUGHT I could pull off?” Yes! So, let’s go for it. And then, it could be as simple as, “Do I like this person (character)? No? Why not? Let’s see if I can have empathy for him.”

AM: Is your approach to the work different depending on whether it’s on TV, a movie or on the stage?

CC: No, it’s pretty much the same. It’s just the time I get to prep for the character and how long I get to live with him that differs.

AM: We’ve seen you in a number of roles and always enjoy when we see you are attached to the project as there is a poise and bold quality that you bring to your work. What is the process that you go into when it comes to becoming the character that you will play?

CC: Well, thank you for the compliment! That really means a lot to me. I take what I do seriously knowing that it’s not serious… Finding the joy in what I do is important to me. This is not just what I do, it’s who I am. It’s a part of me—a HUGE part of me—So, I go all in and the devil is in the details.

AM: Do you find that when you’re finished playing a character that there’s a process in releasing him and is it harder when you’re in a series since you will have to pick him back up again?

CC: The short answer is yes. I definitely have to decompress when work is done. I’m getting better on the time it takes, but I make sure I take it.

AM: West Side Story is an iconic musical and this musical film adaption directed by Steven Spielberg has been very anticipated. You play Abe, a new character – which was created by Steven specifically for you – how did this come about and what did you draw from to bring him to life?

CC: Well, the character was created for someone like me, an addition to a classic that was needed and necessary. So, Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Kushner did that. I just so happen to be the one who got the gift of breathing life into Abe and hearing one of the greats say, “If Curtiss wants it, he can have it.” It means and meant the world to me.

AM: What was it like being part of this production?

CC: Nothing short of amazing!!!

AM: Being from the Midwest originally, I’m always intrigued about shows that focus on Chicago so when The Chi came out, I was hooked from the first show and I love how they showcase the lives of those that live in the community that spans a number of economical, aspirational and inspirational layers. When you came on as Douda, you bring such a dichotomy to the show. How did you get connected with this series and how would you describe your character?

CC: Once again, thank you! I auditioned—I self-taped actually. At the time, I was doing two other series and I thought there’s no way I’ll get three series at the same time and low in behold!!!

Douda is a complicated man like most of us are, that’s one of the beauties of this character. Just when you think you have him figured out, you don’t… and not because he's fooling you, but because he has so much to offer, so many layers, and he has a plan for himself and his community. Nothing is going to stop him from seeing that plan come to fruition.

AM: It feels like Douda continues to share new layers to him which we saw in Season 4 - how much influence do you have in shaping him and giving insights into how he will be portrayed?

CC: None really. I wait for the pages and try my damnedest not to mess it up. I just stay open, willing and adventurous. I get to act for a living... how glorious is that...

Mannnnn, this is all I’ve ever wanted to do and I get to do it on this level with this character on this show on this network and with these people. I HIT THE LOTTO!!!

AM: The Chi was renewed for a 5th season, are you getting ready to film and is there anything you can tell us about the upcoming season or are looking forward to?

CC: Well, I just hope Douda comes back. You saw what happened at the end of the season right? I just hope we get to see him again.

AM: You have worked with phenomenal people from Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Lena Waithe to name a few. You were the Executive Producer of Counselor and A Black Man Acting. Do you see yourself doing more projects behind the camera?

CC: Yes, I will and there’s something happening now. So, yes keep a look out for it.

AM: We love that in the past few months there have been phenomenal immersive podcasts that have top talent telling scripted stories. I think that QCODE does this in such an amazing way and am a fan of their shows regardless of the topic. You lent your talents to The Burned Photo which was a podcast that I enjoyed listening to and I can’t wait until the second season. Why did you want to be apart of this and what was it like creating it?

CC: Wow yeah, I had never done that before and I was curious to see if I could and how it would work. And let me tell you… it was WORK. Wait until you hear the second season! Boy-oh-boy, get ready.

AM: Do you have any upcoming projects that you can share with us that we should keep an eye out for?

CC: A great movie written and directed by Charles Murray with an amazing cast. Hopefully you’ll hear about a release date soon!

AM: When you’re not on set, it seems like you spend a fair amount of time at the gym. What are 3 things that you like to do when you’re working out?

CC: Yea, health is pretty important to me. My favorite work out is boxing, then I’ll do a little free weights, then end everything with core.

AM: How do you take personal time for yourself?

CC: I don’t know if I do… I need to get better at that.

THE BACHELOR S26. E2. | CLAYTON DIGS DEEPER INTO THE RELATIONSHIPS

January 10, 2022

On today’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelor, we see the women getting relaxed in the Bachelor Mansion which seems like forever since we’ve seen it. Jesse Palmer introduces himself to the women formerly. He also leaves them the first date card.

Teddi, Ency, Malina, Gabby, Mara, Sierra, Geneivieve, Serene, Cassidy and X +head to their first group date with Clayton Echard. Joining this date is Hilary Duff and the women fangirl that she’s arrived. They are going to hang out with kids while creating a fun birthday party for one of them. Cassidy is not interested in getting the party ready and the girls notice that she’s nowhere to be found - they know she’s been hanging out with Clayton and has turned the group date into a 1-on-1 date. In addition, Cassidy let the kids know that she didn’t like them and dropped the cake that was made by Genevieve!

They move on to the cocktail portion of the night. Clayton says that he enjoyed the effort that took place and can’t wait to get to know more about them. As he chats with Serene and has the sweetest first kiss, Cassidy is throwing the gauntlet of being the utmost villain. The ladies at the cocktail party let them know that they don’t like how she has acted and she lets them know that she isn’t there for that and that she thinks that she’s going to get the rose.

Back at the house. another date card arrives with Susie getting the 1-on-1 date. Back at the cocktail party, it’s getting pretty intense. Clayton gives the rose for the group date to Cassidy which definitely makes the mood shift even further.

Susie’s 1-on-1 begins with Clayton and they have a helicopter date and of course, fly over the mansion. After exploring the area, they land on a yacht and enjoy champagne. He sees how Susie is just a chill woman who is appreciative. They end their date at the Hudson Loft for dinner and a bit of dancing to a song performed by Amanda Jordan. Of course, she receives the date rose.

The next date card arrives and Marlena, Elizabeth, Kate, Sarah, Lindsey, Rachel, Tessa and Shanae are going out as a group. Their group date is with Ziwe as she plays a game to illustrate red flags with a game of “never have I ever” and then they get ready for an obstacle course. Throughout the date, Shenae tries to push her way through; however, she misses some things while being mad at others who are getting further with him. Thankfully she doesn’t win, but she vows to recover her footing at the cocktail party. Sarah wins the challenge and they are onto the cocktail party. Clayton lets them know that he had a great time and that he looks forward to getting to know more about them.

In the first group date, we watch as Cassidy goes into attack mode to get what she wants. We saw Shenae talk with Cassidy and get pumped up to also gain ground like her friend; however, when we see her on the other group date, we realize that her actions don’t quite match what she says she wants to do. When Shenae finally gets time with Clayton, she decides to share that Elizabeth is not there for the right reason which definitely feels like she is grabbing at straws on this one. He pulls Elizabeth to the side to address the potential issue.

Sarah gets the group date rose. Shenae and Elizabeth chat and we all know that Shenae tried to throw her under the bus when she did nothing wrong. Shenae outs her ADHD status in front of the women and says that she is confused about their sidebar conversation. Ultimately, the entire situation is extremely messy and leaves everyone unsettled when it comes to what they can expect for the rose ceremony cocktail party.

At the party, Eliza does the cutest mini date in teaching Clayton how to scrapbook which was cute. She didn’t have a date this week, but found a way to stand out. Shenae takes the time to talk with Elizabeth to try to squash everything (mainly because Cassidy told her to stop what’s going on). Shenae continues to fan the flame by reiterating that maybe Elizabeth’s ADHD is the problem and that that condition doesn’t allow her to remember that they had had a talk to handle everything. In the end, Elizabeth is rightfully offended and shares with the women. In front of the larger group Shenae continues to mock her ADHD to a point where Cassidy even says that she has gone too far and that she can’t support that kind of behavior. Clearly their duo is quickly coming to an end.

Cassidy leaves the chaos to take some time with Clayton - even though she has a rose already. The ladies all support Elizabeth for being classy in the face of Shenae’s inappropriate behavior. Other girls wonder if they will have less time to connect due to the fact that there is all this drama going on. Cassidy lets the girls know that she is relentless in her pursuits. Interestingly enough, Cassidy told Sierra that she has a friend with benefits at home and she goes to Clayton to let him know what she has been told. She even pulls Cassidy aside to let her know what she did.

In 2 weeks, we’ll find out whether Cassidy will keep her rose and who will be selected to continue their journey.

SENT HOME: We have a cliffhanger so no one was sent home tonight.

RECEIVED A ROSE: Cassidy, Susie, Sarah

Each night during the season, we tweet about The Bachelor and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!

THE BACHELOR S26. E1. | CLAYTON BEGINS HIS JOURNEY

January 3, 2022

We kick off the New Year with Season 26 of ABC’s The Bachelor, which focuses on Clayton Echard as he starts his journey (he is coming off of Michelle Young’s The Bachelorette season 18). Jesse Palmer kicked off the season by reminding us that he was The Bachelor season 5. Having a host that is also a form Bachelor and also played professional football is nice to have that balance and to bring in that level of warmth.

We get a recap of what took place during his season with Michelle and he addressed the fact that he didn’t have the most screentime so it would seem surprising that he would be the next Bachelor.

The fact that the mansion is back, it’s definitely like coming back to an old friend as it’s a stomping ground that we know well. We’re also introduced to the women that we’ll get to know very well.

We meet Salley and we realize that she was supposed to get married and the day of meeting Clayton, she tells him that she was supposed to be married. She lets him know that she is conflicted and he offers her a rose and ultimately, she declines it! Thus all happened pre-limo!

He connects with Jesse to talk about what happened and now we’re finally meeting the women. It’s always fun to see the personalities and how they connect with their intended as they come out of the limo. The mix of sweet and over-the-top entrances is always fun to watch. All the women have arrived and Clayton gives a toast as they begin to get to know one another. He gets 1-on-1 time with each woman, but it’s an extended kiss with Teddi that the girls see where they realize that this is getting serious. Interestingly enough, Teddy didn’t intend to kiss on the first night. The first impression rose arrives and they know that it’s time to step it up - if they have yet to do so. Although everyone enjoyed the dates and times with him, Claire says that he’s not her type and that she feels it’s not a fit. He walks her out as he only wants people that want to be there. He lets them know if anyone wants to step out, now is the time. He then asks to see Teddy so that he can give her the First Impression rose. He also lets them know that the cocktail party is now over and the rose ceremony will begin. The women wonder if the time that they had was enough to ensure that they will be able to stay in the house. He lets them know after tonight, he knows that his wife is in the room and he apologizes to those that he didn’t get a chance to speak to.

SENT HOME: Claire, Daria, Hailey, Ivana, Jane, Lindsay D, Rianna, Salley and Samantha.

RECEIVED A ROSE: Cassidy, Eliza, Elizabeth, Ency, Gabby, Genevieve, Hunter, Jill, Kate, Kira, Lindsey W, Mara, Marlina, Melina, Rachel, Sarah, Serene, Shanae, Sierra, Susie, Teddi, and Tessa.

We’re sharing who you can expect to see on the upcoming season of S26 The Bachelor. The first night brought a lot of surprises from Salley leaving before the limos arrived and kicking out Claire who was unquestionably rude. Teddi received the First Impression rose so we think that she along with Eliza who had a fun interactive German lesson, Enyc who brought a new vibe by talking with Clayton in Persian and Korean as well as the flight instructor, Rachel could be a great group heading to Hometowns!

THE BACHELORETTE S18. E10. | IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS

December 21, 2021

As always, it’s been an interesting season and it comes down to the big decision. Over the next 2 hours of ABC’s The Bachelorette, we will see a bit more of Brandon and Nayte and what Michelle Young’s decision is. Then we’ll get more of our answers in After the Final Rose! Can you believe that we’ll be back to The Bachelor on Jan 3rd with Clayton?

For now, we’re back in Mexico with Michelle as she is thinking about the fact that she let Joe go but knows her feelings are stronger for Nayte and Brandon. She catches up with her parents and sister to let them know what’s going on. She lets them know who she is left with (of course they seem to already like Brandon since her parents met them already). Brandon is up first with gifts and as always, looking genuinely happy to be with her and to see more of her family. Her parents are very warm with him and seem happy to be with him again. In addition to flowers for his mom, she gifts her father a new pair of trunks to make up for when he wore them previously. Her father and Brandon go off to talk one-on-one. He also does the same with Michelle’s mother. Both seem so happy to welcome him into their family. Since he works remote anyway, he’s ready to move to Minnesota genuinely.

Next up, Nayte is meeting the family next. Michelle’s family says it will be hard not to compare the two, but we know that they will try to be open-minded. The family notices that the vibe is different and that Nayte is not as warm. When Nayte is talking to her father, he lets her know that they have not talked about the logistics. Her father lets her know that she has a lot of ambitions but those ambitions involve her staying in Minnesota. Her sister Angela also asks him about whether he would move. He states that moving is not difficult for him, but her sister notes that staying in the place that you move to is different - he seems to falter a little there. Michelle keeps stating that Nayte has said that he wants to be engaged; however, it seems like there are a lot of things that have not been mentioned. Michelle’s mom calls it and says that he may think that he is ready, but she doesn’t feel that he really is. She lets him know that although he is talking a lot, she doesn’t feel the words that he is saying.

It seems like no one believes that Nayte is ready to get engaged (his family during hometowns) as well as Michelle’s family. The fact that Michelle feels she needs to “reassess” is surprising - because everyone else sees that Nayte isn’t the best fit in terms of longterm goals. Her own mother said that she can see why there may have been interest to Nayte because he’s surprising, but Brandon seems to be a more seamless choice for so many reasons.

Now that meeting the families has taken place, Michelle can now enjoy dates with each guy to get to know more about what she is looking for and wants. Her and Brandon hop on the ski-do’s. Their solo date is also an easy affair with Brandon giving her his sweatshirt that she got food on from their food fight. Michelle shared that she is in love with Brandon which is nice for him to hear - it’s going to be interesting to see the decision by the end of this.

We continue on with Michelle to her date with Nayte. Their date is a ritual that will allow both of them to open up and to share what they want. Even the shaman noted that Nayte was not really opening up. At one point Michelle even says that she sees some red flags with Nayte as well. Everyone is saying the same thing and we can only hope that she sees the interactions as they are and not where she hopes it will be. They spend more time together and she feels that Nayte is her person and she has more clarity. She comes back from her date with him and finds a note from Brandon as he professes his love to her.

It is now the day of the decision. Regardless of what happens, we know that the After the Rose portion of tonight will let us know what’s really going on. But for now, we’re with Neil Lane as he talks with Nayte and helps him pick a ring. He asks if he has been in love before (which seems to be what everyone asks him). Brandon also sits with Neil separately and looks at the options and selects a ring. Michelle feels the weight of her decision as she knows this will be a tough decision and that she will have to put herself first (which she has never done). Ultimately, she knows that there will be 1 person that she will be devestated to live her life without. It seems like both Brandon and Nayte feel that they will ask for her hand.

It’s that time, Brandon arrives and chats with Kaitlyn and Bristowe and then he makes his way to her. She gives him a hug although it feels like she is already thinking about the fact that she is going to let him go. Brandon begins to profess his love for her and why he feels the way he does. Michelle lets him know that Brandon is amazing, but she is not able to choose him. Brandon lets her know that he will always be there for her.

Up next is Nayte. Will he propose - as we know that she will accept. Once again Michelle is on her mark and Nayte talks about their relationship. He lets her know that he sees her and is ready to be with her and that she feels that she is chosen first. The waves continue to be very loud, but at least we can hear them better then moments ago. Michelle lets him know what she feels and the fears that she has had. She lets him know that the ride hasn’t been smooth, but she wants to walk through life with him. She feels that she has never felt a love like this before and that she loves him and doesn’t want to think about waking up next to anyone else but with him and doing life with him. She wants to be with her soulmate and she feels that that is him. Nayte says that he loves her and that he doesn’t want to let go and he asks her to marry him. Nayte and Michelle are officially engaged.

After the Rose Ceremony kicks off and Kaitlyn chats with Brandon. He talks about his support system and how he is thankful for family friends and people from the show. Brandon felt that he was certain that it would be him and that he was her person. Ultimately, he is happy that she found it, but in the moment, it was sad that it was not him. He was devastated especially because he clicked with her family. He shares that he is thankful that everything worked out the way it was because he always stated that he cared about her happiness over his own. Brandon shared how he connected with his family after the event and how thankful he was. Kaitlyn shared that she took a photo of him after his scene with Michelle. It looked so sad to see him sitting there along as the sun went down. Brandon called the shot, “beauty in the struggle.” He knows that God will make sure that everything will be ok. He says that he will always love Michelle and he knows that it’s not respectful to love her in that way as she is with Nayte right now.

Michelle and Brandon sit down and talk. He lets her know that he wants to hear what happened and where she is at as opposed to asking all of these questions. Michelle talks about how she battled in the process and she shared her feelings with him even knowing that ultimately she may also have to break his heart. You can tell that Brandon is still hurt from what happened and he lets her know. He thanks her for letting him be vulnerable as he likes to be reserved. He tells her that it was hard watching himself because he was in love with her and her family. He felt that in some ways, his love was overlooked - but he knows that he only knew his portion and not the full story. He knew that she was going to break his heart and he saw that in her eyes, when he stood with her on the last day, that that wasn’t going to be them in the end. He lets her know that he misses her parents a lot. He tells her that he is a little confused about how it all played out. He sees that she had to push Nayte to get to a point where he already was.

Finally, we see Michelle and Nayte together and thankfully, it seems like their families are connected which is nice to see and we also see the upcoming season of Clayton which starts on Jan 3rd.

Each night during this season, we have tweet about The Bachelorette and we chatted along with you (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) each episode!

Each week we let you know who our faves were from the last episode and if we’ve changed up since then as it pertains to who we think should go to Hometowns.

We also suggest a podcast that we’ve become obsessed with over the past few seasons, Wondery’s Bachelor Happy Hour to get their feedback!

ROOTS + RECIPES WITH AARTI SEQUEIRA

December 18, 2021

We had the pleasure to catch up with another culinary fave, Aarti Sequeira. We begin by talking about her culinary journey and how we first met her during in season 6 of Food Network’s Next Food Star where she won her season. We talk about her show Aarti Party, her love for sharing Indian foods and being a Food Network personality as a host and a judge. Just in the past weeks alone, we have enjoyed her judging on the latest season of Halloween Wars and then immediately after, she is judging Holiday Wars! She shares how she takes on her role as a judge and why honesty is essential when she is interacting with contestants. We also talk about her latest project, My Family Recipe Journal which allows people to record their family recipes as well as to add new ones that you have created with your friends and family. She talks about the importance of maintaining these culinary moments and how through this, families can still be connected through space, time and generations.

ATHLEISURE MAG: We remember watching you on the 6th season of Next Food Star and winning it which we knew you would. What was it about cooking that you loved it and the passion that you brought to it and what made you want to work in the culinary world and to share your food stories?

AARTI SEQUIRA: Gosh, well first of all, I was 10lbs when I was born. I think that I have always had an appetite. My poor, poor, poor mother. I was her first baby and I literally scarred her for life. Bless her! I was born into a family who are obsessed with food. I mean, my family will talk about what they have eaten before they will tell you how they are feeling! Because that is probably a clearer barometer about their emotional well being. It’s really the center of our lives. I think it’s because food is such a huge part of Indian culture and in India as well as South Asia in general, you can tell so much about a person, their community and their history based on what they eat. Their religion will decide some of the things that they can eat, where they’re from, the way that they cook it. It’s just such a huge part of our identity. That was such a natural thing that I brought up with me as I grew and came to the states.

So the ironic thing is that my mum is an incredible cook and she’s known as this in our family. My dad has a very exacting palette and both of them are world travelers, they’ve been all over and especially my dad. When we would go on holiday, we would go to places where he had been on business trips. He’d come back and he’d say, “we have to go to Istanbul guys – you’ll love it.” That summer we would go to Istanbul and that was a really beautiful gift that they gave us. Of course, when we went on holiday, that was also about what we were going to eat and then coming home and trying to recreate some of that and sharing it with our friends and family. So, cooking and eating have marked every joyful and difficult moment of my life.

So in my 20s when I was here in the states and I was hitting a real rough patch in terms of – I had always thought that I wanted to be a journalist and I had been pretty successful at that and I had worked at the company of my dreams, CNN. Then, the bottom fell out of everything and I couldn’t find work and I was really starting to question my worth and I retreated to the kitchen and watched a ton of Food Network – every cooking show I could find, I read all the cookbooks and I started tinkering around in my kitchen. I found that cooking gave me my sense of peace and comfort and quiet and a sense of being able to turn chaos into something beautiful. I desperately needed that at that point in my life as it felt like chaos. So cooking really saved me in many ways because I was having a huge identity crisis and around the same time, that’s when my faith came together and so faith and cooking and everything that happened right then in my 20s – it was a crucible and it was really hard, but I’m so grateful for it because it really helped me establish who I am.

AM: What are your 3 favorite ingredients that you always like to have on hand?

AS: Oooo gosh! How can you narrow it down to just 3? It’s so hard. I would put it down to sort of the Indian holy trio which would be onion, ginger and garlic. I think if I have those 3 ingredients, I can build pretty much any savory dish and if I caramelize the onions enough, I can make a sweet dish.

AM: Oh wow some double duty actions!

AS: I think that if you walk into my house, you’ll always find those things sitting on the counter – even if I have nothing else.

AM: We always love when we're watching Food Network and we’ll see you popping on the Guy’s Grocery Games, on Chopped or Halloween Wars and we know that on Nov 7th, Holiday Wars comes out and that’s really exciting! It’s great to see these incredible bakers doing what they do and for it to be in the holiday season as we have navigated these past 20 months it makes you think of that sense of family, fun and thinking like a kid again. So, tell us for those that may not have seen the show, we know its hosted by Maneet Chauhan and that you and Shinmin Li are judges.

AS: So Holiday Wars is a tradition on Food Network. It’s a long standing show and I was really honored to be invited to be part of it. Shinmin has been judging it since the beginning so she’s the OG and then I’m there haha! Holiday Wars is a show that tests bakers on the inside and on the outside. Meaning, they have to make, sculpt and create for us these beautiful vignettes that will communicate whatever the theme is of that episode. But they can only use sugar, flour, eggs, butter, chocolate and some isomalt.

They have to make us a piece of art. Now on top of that, it’s interesting that this season they are going to have to be heartbreakingly, cutting into their creations because somewhere at a certain point in the middle of their beautiful sculpture, there is some cake for us to taste. So that’s why I say, inside and outside. It’s about the flavors and it’s also about the art of it. It’s such a unique show and something that keeps the whole family involved. I watch it with my kids because they can somewhat imagine the flavors especially my boujie palated children!

The thing with Holiday Wars, it’s what we get excited for. We drive around our neighborhoods to see the Christmas decorations and everywhere we go, there is holiday music playing. We have tumbled through the year and we have come home. At the end of the year, this is what you want – some comfort, warmth and hope which is to me what I think the holiday is about and that’s all wrapped into one here on Holiday Wars.

AM: How does it feel as a judge to sit there and watch all of these things going on and people are going through competitions? Do you find it hard to be able to categorize what is better than something else? It must be pretty tough.

AS: It is really hard, especially once we get further and further into the end of the competition. Listen, I am a huggy buggy. I start to get really invested in these people - I care about them. If I could hand them all a trophy, I would but that doesn’t really behoove anyone. The longer we go, the harder it is for me to tell them, “hey it didn’t work.” This is the advantage of being someone that has competed and continues to compete is that I know what that feels like. I don’t like it when I can tell that a judge is holding back the truth. I want to know the truth and that’s how I grow and that’s how I get better. I try to keep that in mind too. I bear in mind all the difficulty of cooking in front of 1 billion cameras and lights and the stress that that involves, I try to keep in mind that fatigue because really after a few weeks into the competition there is physical and mental fatigue going on. I try to keep all of that in mind, but at the end of the day, everybody is there to move forward in the competition and in their career. So I have to shoot it straight and I try to do it with as much grace and levity as possible because that’s what I want.

AM: This season starts on Nov 7th, but is there anything that you can tell us that we should look out for or anything that you can share?

AS: I will tell you that this show follows on the heels of Halloween Wars and it was really interesting to see how to make a sculpture really pop and to have an impact. On Halloween Wars, you can really cash in on the drama of the theater that really stands out. So in a way, you could really see that – but when you move on to Holiday Wars, there is no shadow and I found that they had somewhat of a harder challenge because what they’re trying to play on is nostalgia, memory, humor and that thing that you can’t put your finger on to give you those feelings in your heart when you say, “oh my gosh, I’m completely in love with it and I can tell you all the stories that I felt as a kid.” That’s very hard to do and so there were definitely a couple of creations where even if the execution wasn’t great and I can think of it now, I was brought to tears over it when I heard the story behind it. It just made me cry so grab some tissues as there will be some crying. It won’t just be me!

AM: It is a story and it’s kind of interesting because I was looking at your My Family Recipes Journal and I believe that people do tell stories through food. It’s pretty hard when you talk about a certain dish without talking about something that came from your family or some type of experience that you have had and especially with what we were talking about, family bonds, the holiday season and all of these feelings that come together with this. Where did the idea come from for you to be able to create this?

AS: Well, my grandmother whose name was Lucica, my middle name is from her. She was this whirlwind in the kitchen and she was the kind of woman who would say that she would make a cake, she would wing the recipe and even though she didn’t have an oven, she would steam it on the stove top. It would turn out so good and everyone would say, “oh my gosh, Lucica is an incredible cook.” She was and unfortunately, she passed away quite early in her life and in the life of her children. She did not write her recipes down because I think that she thought that she would always be here. So for my mom, her sisters and her brother, for whom food is such a huge part of their life, to not have those recipes and to not have them written down in her handwriting, it was just a huge loss.

So my mom started her own recipe journal and I think that consciously or subconsciously so that that wouldn’t happen to us. She has been keeping a recipe journal for as long as I can remember. She has so many of these big old day planners that are filled with her recipes written and re-written, tested and re-tested. It’s more of the traditional things that tell us about where we from, but it’s also the new things that she has come up with because of the experiences that she has gone through so it’s really this living testament to who my mother really is and one of these days, she’s going to pass. I don’t like thinking about that, but what I will have and what my sisters will have is that testament to who Rosemary Sequeira was and not only will I be able to run my fingers over the handwriting and touch her, but I will also be able to recreate them and you know that when you make that person's recipes, they are back in the kitchen with you and that's a way to reintroduce her to my girls and to help them them understand that, “hey, you come from me, but you also come from Rosemary Sequeira, you also come from Lucica Harrison and a bunch of generations before you who all loved to cook and these are the flavors that they were really into and this is why we have the sweet halal or the sweet pilaf recipes because back in the day, they were rationing and my grandmother had to come up with the recipes.” These are the stories right that pull our roots down into really good soil, so that we can stretch up high and wide. I think it’s really important to write these recipes down because family recipes naturally and inherently connect a family. These days because our lives are so full and so busy and frankly, families are all across the country and all across the world We have time and distance coming for our families and stretching them! So something as simple as sharing a family recipe can be that glue that pulls that family back together. If there is anything that we have learned over the past couple of years is that, you can take a lot of things from us, but we will find a way to remain connected to those people that are really important to us. Family is whatever way that it means something to us.

I got together with my family at DaySpring and they know how to make beautiful things that are a blessing to us and enable us to bless others. They helped me create this recipe journey. There are blessing at the beginning of every section and I get a little choked up to think that there might be families all over the country saying those blessings before they eat this holiday season and there are also pieces of scripture on every page and we have broken up the pages into 8 sections so that you can decide how you want to divide up your recipes. Every section is color coded and the colors are inspired by saris from my mum’s closet. The interesting way that we have set up the pages is that page 1 is not for your to write the recipe on – that’s page 2. Page 1 is for you to write the title of the recipe , the kitchen from which it came and then to write your memory of that person or the times that you have eaten eaten that recipe. So that stays and when you write something down, you give it value and you’ve taken something abstract that only lives in your mind and you put it down so that others can share in that experience. That’s why I think that that is really important to me and that’s why it’s on page 1.

AM: It seems like such a beautiful book and something that is perfect for gifting.

AS: Yeah, thank you!

AM: When we were watching you reveal the book on your Instagram, the colors are lovely and it looks so ornate and feels like something that you would want to put on the coffee table of your home when you are not using it.

AS: In my mind, it was meant to look like a jewelry box!

AM: Yes! That’s what we were going to say but we didn’t want to offend you ha!

AS: Yes! Why would I be offended that’s what I wanted it to look like! It’s a complete jewelry box, because I want people to understand that their family recipes no matter how humble or intricate – they are jewels and gems that they should hold onto. You should protect them and pass them down like an heirloom to the next generation.

AM: Do you see creating other products like this and having an assortment that allows people to continue to share their stories?

AS: I mean that is the hope and prayer. This is just the beginning of a relationship with DaySpring and we have some really cool ideas coming up so I am so excited to have a partner who values family and values connection and values faith the way that I do. Those are the things that keep me going. Really, on a day-to-day basis, if I didn't have those those things, I would be a mess!

AM: Yes!

AS: Yeah and I think that we can all relate to that! The holidays can be hard for some people and I wanted there to be something that could help them through this period of time.

THE BACHELOR S26. | SEE THE WOMEN OF CLAYTON ECHARD'S SEASON

December 16, 2021

On Jan 3rd, days after ringing in the New Year, we will begin Season 26 of ABC’s The Bachelor and get to see Clayton Echard start his journey (he is coming off of Michelle Young’s The Bachelorette season 18. Clayton’s season will be hosted by Jesse Palmer which will also be an interesting twist as we have enjoyed seeing him host a number of shows.

Prior to any season, ABC releases who will be the contestants on the show. We have a number of people that we’re already thinking will make it far this season.

THE BACHELORETTE S18. E9. | FANTASY SUITES IN MEXICO

December 14, 2021

Tonight’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelorette kicks off in Mexico as we’re down to the last 3 men: Brandon, Nayte and Joe. Michelle Young walks the beach talking through the men and what’s she’s thinking with Kaitlyn Bristowe. Tayshia Adams visits the men and lets them know that each one will have an intimate one-on-one date with her and lets them know that there is an option for her to give them a Fantasy Suite card. Tayshia reminds them that this is when they need to let go and talk with her. She explains that this night was impactful for her and her decisions. Up first is Brandon. He looks as excited as we know that he would be. He’s excited that she wants to see him first. The guys also note that this is the first time that they feel that they’re not friends, they are competitors and how it’s so weird because of the positive vibes that they have had leading up to this moment. Joe sums it up by saying, “we went from bro’s to foes.”

On Michelle’s date with Brandon, they ride horses in the forest and on the beach. Once again, it seems like they have a good vibe with one another. As they continue to the evening portion of the date, we know that Michelle is going to ask more questions so that she can get to know more about Brandon. Brandon lets her know that he is in love with her and he will always put her first. She reiterates that she is falling in love with him and that she still feels that way - just like she did after meeting his family. We know that he has never wavered in his feelings with her. She gives him the Fantasy Suite card and he reads the note that Kaitlyn and Tayshia wrote and he says that he wants to stay with her, to hold her and to wake up with her. While they’re in their private hot tub, fireworks begin in the background. We see Nayte and Joe looking outside realizing that the date is still going on and that she is dating all of them and figuring out the relationships.

Brandon comes back from the date and says that it’s awkward to come back realizing he was with her and that they will be with her as well. He tells them that they had a great date, but didn’t go into details - which is respectful. We know that Joe is next up for his date. Ziplining for their intimate date is definitely adventurous. Michelle goes first and seems to be loving it. She picked this date to loosen him up as he is a bit more reserved then her. He actually liked letting loose and screaming! You can tell that both of them are having a great time and seeing how they really mesh with each other. Joe recognizes that he needs to bring all he has to the forefront so that Michelle can really get to know him.

As her date with Joe continues, she lets him know that she didn’t think that he would scream and would just silently zipline! We’re not going to lie, we thought the same thing. They talk about how many kids that they want to have and how they want to be inspirations to other people. She lets him know that she always feels connected to him, but on this date, she felt it even more. She gives him the Fantasy Suite card to read. Michelle says that with how well her date with Joe went, everything is changed now!

We see Brandon and Nayte talk as they talk about whether it’s best to have had the first date or the 3rd and the final date. Both are reconciling that this is the process. The fact that they are still respectful with one another is really amazing.

Joe comes back from his date after spending time in the Fantasy Suites and he’s happy and announces that he was there. Both guys are reminded again that they are not the only ones dating her. Nayte’s date is on a boat as they cruise off the coast of Mexico. Nayte lets her know that he is crazy about her and she tells him the same.

As they get to the next phase of their date, Michelle wants to see more of where Nayte’s head is at. Nayte lets her know that he has feelings for her. Michelle wants to know where his head is at because she explains that this process ends in an engagement - which is what she’s looking for. Nayte then says he is falling in love with her, however, we can’t help thinking about the fact that his parents didn’t think that he was ready, they had never heard him being excited about any girl nor had they met one. So this is something that she be considered. Back on their date, he also gets the Fantasy Suites room as well with her. Without a doubt, they have chemistry, but is it the kind that paves the way for a longterm relationship?

Michelle lets Nayte know that she is in love with him. We know that she has a lot of feelings for him because she has constantly said that he is her soulmate. All the dates have completed and each guy had a special experience and as Nayte called it, “we vibed up.”

At this point, it’s all about the rose ceremony to see where they all stand. Michelle states that she is in love with all of them. At the ceremony, she lets them know that she values them and that they have changed her life. She lets them know that her stomach is in knots. Before she gives out the roses, Brandon asks to speak to her briefly and lets her know that he will always be there for her, whether he’s there or not.

Michelle gives the first rose to Nayte and the last one to Brandon. She sends Joe home!

Each night during this season, we tweet about The Bachelorette and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!

THE BACHELORETTE S18. E8. | MEN TELL ALL

December 6, 2021

Tonight’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelorette is the Men Tell All. Tonight’s episode will be hosted by Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe. As always, this episode ties up various loose ends and airs grievances that have taken place over the season. The episode kicks off with some seriously cringey moments calling out Chris, Martin, Jamie, Peter and Ryan - reminds us all why they are were kicked off. They delve into each of the men’s inappropriate behaviors on the show. Jamie was not on the set with the men, but was brought on individually as he was a lightening rod for everyone else.

We even see guys who had an issue with one another talk about what took place over the season. Olu asks Chris to tell him to his face that he was uneducated, Will and Peter continue to argue with one another and the pizza entrepreneur “serves” him with paperwork - it’s not clear if this man was in fact actually serving him a defamation suit. Jamie continues the confusion game by going in circles about the rumor and never saying that he did it and that he was sorry.

Coming back from the break, we got to hear about Rick’s journey and it was nice to see how their relationship progressed until it didn’t. They gifted him his very own cake head on a platter - which he took a bite out of it. In between watching Rick and then talking to Rodney, Kaitlyn asked about Tayshia’s relationship. We know that she is no longer with Zac. Although she didn’t go into details, she did say that they are no longer engaged and that she doesn’t know what the future holds. She’s visibly shaken and as they bring Rodney on to talk with him, she gets up and leaves the segment. We see his relationship and his Hometowns. Kaitlyn let us know that he will be going to Bachelor in Paradise as she alludes to him being able to find his person on the beaches of Mexico.

They shared some bloopers and a sneak peek of The Bachelor with Clayton. We can’t wait to see this on Jan 3rd, next month and it looks like there are a lot of twists and turns. This season will be hosted by Jessie Palmer.

When we get back from break, Michelle Young is on the stage. Rodney is shouted out by her first as she says that she liked his genuine nature. She also sends love to Rick as well and likes that he was always all in for everything that process entailed. Jamie tells her how much he liked her and felt that she was authentic, Michelle asks him why did he not do the things that he claims he respected her for. She lets him know that he didn’t act like a coach and she didn’t appreciate the way he dealt with the people in the house. The guys get the chance to compliment as well as to ask her things that have been on their minds. Michelle admits that she sent Olu home to early! Peter and Will bury the hatchet after giving everyone a slice of the pizza.

Each night during this season, we tweet about The Bachelorette and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!

THE BACHELORETTE S18. E7. | IT'S HOMETOWNS!

November 30, 2021

Tonight’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelorette continues in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Michelle Young’s for the week that we all look forward to, Hometowns! Tayshia Adams and Michelle talk about what it will be like and the kinds of things that she should ask and look for. Kaitlyn Bristowe lets the guys know that their families are there and it’s time to get ready for everyone to meet.

Brandon is up first. He takes her to his hometown in “Portland” and they’re skateboarding! Although we were expecting some insane tricks, we can see that he’s trying to get the rust off. We also see Michelle get on the board too - shakily. But, it’s a cute date and we can see their connection. She meets his mom, dad and brother. Noah’s brother is the kind of brother that you would want to have. He’s honest and digs in asking Michelle about why she likes him. Seeing Michelle connecting with Brandon’s dad was sweet to see. She won her family over as his mom felt that they were so similar and his dad stated outright that he liked Michelle! Michelle lets him know that she also has strong feelings that she is falling for him as well.

Rodney is up next! Even she says that she didn’t expect that the man dressed like an apple would be here! Their date includes going to the place where an apple known as the First Kiss, only grows in her home state! Their apple date including picking them, throwing them into buckets and just having an easy time with one another. When she meets his family, they are nice to her, but they are hesitant as it’s a tough situation to be in.

Michelle brought Joe to her high school in an earlier episode. On this episode, Michelle is taken to his high school where he can show her his experience through his eyes. The date continues on to Prom! He didn’t go to his and he knows that she was picked last at hers. So it was nice to see them do all the Prom things and to make that memory. Seeing Joe’s family, we see that he gets his quiet nature from his dad, but it’s clear that his family likes her and they draw her in.

The final date for Hometowns is with Nayte. He shows her his love for walking in the park when he is in Austin - so that’s part of her date. But, he lets her know that 3-4 days a week, he likes to kayak. It’s a competitive and fun part of the date. He reminds us that he got the first impression date and he’s still here and they will continue to build on their chemistry.

It’s interesting that Michelle will be the first woman that Nayte has ever brought home to his family! That would make any woman nervous about what that experience will look like. Nayte seems excited, but he doesn’t really know what that means. Michelle feels that it’s a bit of red flag that no one has evermet his parents. She is meeting his mom and step father - who they recently divorced and both are skeptical as this is new territory for everyone. Even his step father says that he will call things out if he does or doesn’t see a fit. Even Nayte talks about how he and his parents never talked about feelings and relationships. His step father was very clear in saying that he doesn’t know the difference between being in love, being married and being engaged and that he questions whether he is ready to take those steps because it is so new. We see Nayte and his step dad connect and say that they love one another for the first time!

As Michelle debates what she should do, Serena and Brie who were on Matt James’ season with her pop by.

The men are at the rose ceremony. Michelle gives roses to Brandon, Nayte and Joe. Rodney is not given a rose and it’s heartbreaking to see him standing there without one. She wants him to know that he is enough and not an underdog, even though she sent him home because her feelings weren’t there in the same way that they were with others. He lets her know that he is still in love with her. The next dew days are going to be interesting. Next week, the Men’s Tell all takes place for The Bachelorette, Clayton will be the next The Bachelor and his season starts in Jan.

Each night during this season, we tweet about The Bachelorette and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!

THE BACHELORETTE S18. E6. | MICHELLE CONTINUE TO LOOK FOR LOVE

November 23, 2021

Tonight’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelorette continues in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Michelle Young’s hometown. The remaining men talk amongst themselves as there are 8 left and whoever received a rose will be going to Hometowns!

We also see Michelle’s students. 4 of them will get to meet the prospective men. They share insights that they have on her as they see her through the lens of Ms. Young. Michelle feels that a child’s opinion says a lot.

The kids let the men know that they are taking over the week and planning all of the dates. They kick off with questions asking if they have been grounded, whether they have bad breath and if they can do handstands - essential skills. We have to admit that the kids feedback is pretty spot on. They like Olu and see that he’s sweet, but they feel Martin just shows off and they don’t think that he is a good fit. Clayton suggests that they should build a fort and he is hoping that by doing it, he may be able to get a 1-on-1 date.

The date card arrives and the 1-on-1 date goes to Clayton. Michelle’s students are in charge of who is on the group and 1-on-1 dates and they are also planning all the activities. They start off with a limo and they have pizza and candy waiting for them in the car. It’s pretty cute - but then again, they’re in 5th grade so we can imagine that that would be a great idea to them. They make their way to the museum and Michelle knows that she has been there with her students before. A night date at a museum is a pretty cool idea. They run through the museum with their socks on, they catch butterflies with scrolls to get to know more about one another and they go to the planetarium where the students put an audio-visual presentation together which includes facts on the solar system while encouraging the two to be together.

The next date card arrives Rick, Rodney, Nayte, Joe, Martin and Olu are on a group date. That means that Brandon will have a 1-on-1 date. Back on Clayton’s date, they’re not sitting down to dinner and it’s time for them to get to know more about one another. Although they have a great conversation, it seems like Michelle is a bit unsure although she feels that she’s getting to know him more. She lets him know that he checks the box on all of the qualities that she is looking for. But, she feels that something is holding her back and that she can’t give him the rose and take that step to get to know his family. She doesn’t give him a rose. She does tell him that he is enough and that although she feels connected to him, it’s not the right connection for a relationship and he feelings won’t be able to get there. She knows that he is not her person and that there will be an amazing person for him. Clayton meets 2 of the kids and each of them give him a note. Both notes are sweet and they have positive things to say to him as well as saying that they wish he had been a fit for Michelle. Could this mean that he will be The Bachelor?

The kids plan a farm date for the group date. The guys milk cows (Rick is a natural and Rodney looks overwhelmed). Joe and Nayte turn milking a cow into a compeition. They also hang out with the baby cows and feed them. Churning butter is another activity on this date - Joe is an excellent butter churner apparently. Cleaning up the poop from the cows is yet another activity. They also have a nighttime hayride to end the last group date. To end this portion of the evening, everyone gets dressed up and has the afterparty from the group date. Michelle encourages them to have the conversations that need to be said.

Nayte decides that he wants to talk about family. He lets her know that he has never brought a girl home to his family because his dad didn’t want to meet anyone - we’re assuming that he only wants to see the one. Nayte lets her know that he is strongly falling for Michelle and that he has never felt that way before. She tells him that she feels very stronlgy about him as well. She says that she is tumbling down a hill so fast for him.

Michelle compliments Joe on his nurturing behaviour and he tells her that his grandparents ran a dairy farm - thus why he was so good at all of the chores and at home doing them!

Rick wants to make sure that he has left everything on the table and lets her know that if she has questions, she lets him know.

Rodney makes his pitch about why he wants her to see his Hometown and to know why he is the way that he is.

Once again, Martin is talking smack about Michelle and saying that they had a miscommunication because she didn’t get where he was coming from. Olu hears this and you can tell that he’s not having it. When Martin chats with Michelle, he says he wants her to see his friends and family so that she can know more about him. He continues to say that she misunderstands him and they have miscommunications.

Olu comes in hot and tells her about Martin and the red flags that he sees. He references that Michelle’s story and what she went through is perceived by Martin as her not dealing with her issues and being immature. Michelle feels that Olu is trustworthy and she can’t believe that Martin would weigh in on how she felt unseen.

She sees the guys and before giving the group date rose, she asks him to come chat with her. She lets him know that he is two-faced and that his thoughts on her poem, opening up and being vulnerable is immature to him that she hasn’t resolved that. Martin says he didn’t say it, but would like to tell her what he actually did say. He says that there is a difference between being insecure and having insecurities. He talks over her and cuts her off - which we know is a pet peeve of hers. She tells him that he hasn’t been honest and that he doesn’t listen to why she has been hurt. She feels that he is not to be trusted and that she is walking him out. She is hurt by the fact that she has opened up and been vulnerable with him and he has taken that information as a character flaw. He’s not mad that he’s going home, he doesn’t like the way that she handled it and he feels sorry for her and feels she doesn’t deserve his time. Nayte receives the group date rose. Hearing Olu’s take that he was happy to share the information and that he wasn’t upset that he didn’t get the rose.

Brandon is on his 1-on-1 date with Michelle. He’s excited that they’re getting ice cream. It’s one of Michelle’s favorite spots and it’s only open during the summers. They’re having a great date and she takes him to the place where she has the most memories - her home! Brandon is so excited and nervous. But there’s no need because her parents aren’t home, but he can see her childhood home. I think that that’s a special moment for him and one that he cherishes as well. They take a dip in the pool and she gives him her dad’s trunks. Although she didn’t think they were coming, her parents arrive! After the initial awkwardness, they put their clothes back on and they chat together. They have a nice interaction and Brandon has time alone with her parents and asks that should it get to that point as he loves her, that he would want to marry her and wanted their blessing. They said yes before they continue onto their date. They talk and he gives her a bracelet that his mom made for him. His mom said that if she felt that Michelle was the one, that he should give it to her so that they know to give her the same love that they have for him. He received the rose and is going to Hometowns.

Now the remaining 4 Rodney, Rick, Olu and Joe need to optimize their time for the cocktail party. Olu is the only person who has yet to receive a 1-on-1 date. Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams let them know that the cocktail party has been cancelled as she knows what she wants and they will go straight to the rose ceremony. Only 2 roses will be given out tonight. This last group of guys that appeared at the rose ceremony as well as Clayton were a great group of guys and it’s sad to see that Rick and Olu didn’t make it; however, we can see how those with roses are a great fit for her.

Michelle gives a rose to Nayte, Brandon, Joe and Rodney

Michelle sends home Clayton, Martin, Olu and Rick.

Each night during this season, we tweet about The Bachelorette and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!

THEY’RE GOING TO HOMETOWNS

SEASON 18 | EPISODE 6

Last week, we felt that Joe, Martin, Nayte and Olu would go to hometowns.

This week, we weren’t surprised that Martin was sent home and we were sad to see that Clayton, Rick and Olu were eliminated. Joe and Nayte have always been in our mix for those would be at Hometowns. But we have also liked Brandon and Rodney so it’s nice to see that they will get to have their families meet with Michelle.

THE BACHELORETTE S18. E5. | WELCOME TO MINNEAPOLIS

November 16, 2021

We pick up tonight’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelorette in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Michelle Young’s hometown. We meet her parents which are pretty cute and we know that she will get more clarity now that she will be able to connect with them. You can tell that they have a very close bond with one another.

Hopefully the guys remember what she has told them about putting her first and making her feel seen AND wanted. They all assemble and find out that there will be a 1-on-1 date which will start now with Joe. As both are from Minneapolis, this will be something for them to experience the city. There are 2 more dates - another 1-on-1 and a group date that is available for tonight’s episode.

They make their way to the Minnesota Twins game and Michelle throws the pitch and since it was a strike, she gets a kiss. They go to her high school and she shows him her locker. She also shows him her trophies and accomplishments, her year books and other memories that will give him more insight. Of course, they make their way to the basketball gym and begin playing 1-on-1. She reminds us that he was Mr. Basketball as well as she was Mrs. Basketball. She tells him that he reminds her of her dad and brother as they are reserved people. She doesn’t think that that is a bad thing, but she notices it. He lets her know that he is really trying to be more open as it’s not natural for him, but he wants to be this way with her.

The remainder of the guys are at the hotel when a group date is delivered. The group date will include Casey, Rodney, Martin, Leroy, Rick, Clayton, Olu, Chris and Brandon. They’ll meet her at the stadium for their dates with her. Chris is made because he feels that Nayte doesn’t deserve a solo date and that he went out on a limb to talk with Michelle and it fell on deaf ears. We guess he also feels the burn because he hinted that he felt that he would get a 1-on-1 with her.

Back on the date with Joe, they have went from a Twins game, her high school to dinner and potentially a Ferris Wheel? They have a deep conversation about medical and career traumas that he had. Ultimately, he gets the rose for the date.

Michelle is excited for the Minnesota group date. The guys (although excited to be at the football stadium) all stay focused on her. Although the Vikings play at the stadium, Vikings from the 1600’s showed up to teach them fighting skills. She is pleased that they are making small moments with her. Each guy sees this as a part of their redemption with her. They change into their viking costumes and they eat traditional foods. They finish with a bit of arm wrestling. Clayton wins the challenges of the group date. The group moves on to Semple Mansion to have some cocktails and more conversation at the after party. Clayton is always an interesting one to watch. We can tell that Michelle has an interest - is there a vibe between them, no but if rumors are to be believed - this will be the next Bachelor. Poor Brandon ate a number of foods that he really had to push through. As they chat, she tells him to close his eyes and fed him Swedish fish. Everyone seems to be taking what she said to heart, although the guys feel that Chris has not stepped up to the plate. Chris wants to tell Michelle that he should have received the 1-on-1 because of the info that he shared. The guys feel that he’s acting off, but they continue to remain focused and enjoy having personal time.

Nayte’s date card arrives and Joe lets him know that she is, “looking for a man that’s not afraid to test the waters.”

Back at the after-party, Michelle returns, Chris isn’t even there to greet her. She asks if anyone is missing and then Chris, with a drink in hand pops up. She gives Clayton the date rose.

Nayte and Michelle have a date on a pontoon boat where they also meet up with her 2 best friends. They ask the tough questions as they have seen her hurt before. They ask whether he has issues with any of the guys and he lets them know that there was an issue with Chris, but it’s not up to him to weed them out as he’s sure that Michelle will be able to do that herself. Although her besties didn’t stay for the entire date, they did seem to give them their approval. They sit down to dinner to continue to chat and to get to know one another more.

But then Chris decides that he needs to have a conversation with Michelle now while she is on her date with Nayte. He walks in on them and says that they have to talk and it’s important. Chris says he’s disappointed because he didn’t get to talk to her the night before and he feels that he was played because he shared his thoughts with her and what he said, fell on deaf ears. He lets her know that she has been warned and that he doesn’t want her making the wrong decisions. Although Michelle can appreciate that he wanted to speak up for her, she doesn’t need him to do that and he needs to support her. She tells him that they are not on the same page and she offers to walk him out. She feels that he is coming from a genuine place, but she doesn’t need him in that role. She gives Nayte the rose.

The guys prep for the cocktail party and rose ceremony. They know that there are only 10 of them now that Chris is gone. Rick and Michelle take a glam walk around the city. They dance on the sidewalk and he says that he would move to the city. Michelle brings Brandon a birthday cake which is pretty sweet. We see Olu and her connect. Leroy and Clayton grab some time with her as well. Rodney and Michelle head to the rooftop to see the city. It’s nice to see that this night has no drama and everyone is just focused on keeping the peace and getting to know The Bachelorette more.

Of course, those moments of zen are short-lived when Martin chats with her and questions whether the compliments that she has given him are authentic as he implies that she has said them to others. He also talks about how men can’t be high maintenance, but women could. Michelle has a few mantras that she has said throughout this show - one of them that she doesn’t like her integrity being questioned, she wants to be seen, etc. This conversation definitely can’t be good in the long run. There are only 5 roses left and Michelle reminds them that she has to continue to follow her heart. We also see Kaitlyn Bristowe and Tayshia Adams who hasn’t been around very much this episode.

Michelle gives a rose to Joe, Clayton, Nayte, Rick, Olu, Brandon, Martin,

Michelle sends home Chris, Leroy and Casey.

SEASON 18 | EPISODE 5

Last week, we felt that Joe, Martin, Nayte and Olu would go to hometowns.

This week, Chris really put his foot in his mouth and was eliminated before the rose ceremony. We think the 4 below will be at Hometowns just like last week. We’re not the biggest fans of Martin, but Michelle or the producers will continue to include him in the mix.

THE BACHELORETTE S18. E4. | MICHELLE CONTINUES ON HER JOURNEY OF LOVE

November 9, 2021

Tonight’s episode of ABC’s The Bachelorette begins with some of the guys debriefing about Jamie and how he brought drama into the house. We also see kick off the episode with Michelle Young talking with Kaitlyn Bristowe about how she is looking forward to the week and how she will continue to remain open!

Tayshia Adams swings by the guys to let them know that this week there are 2 1-on-1 dates and 1 group date. The first date card goes to Martin. Olu feels that Martin and Jamie were close and he doesn’t trust him! He feels that he is not deserving of her and definitely has his eye on him. Apparently, Michelle is also aware that he was close with Jamie as well and she’s looking to get her answers! Initially, we weren’t the biggest fan of Martin - but it was nice that he caught up with Michelle when the drama was going on to make sure she was ok. So, it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Although they have fun racing on the track, there is a conversation that they have where he says that Jamie was a good guy. This leaves Michelle feeling like her decision and position is being questioned. When they are in the dinner portion of the date, Michelle brings it up and Martin explains that he is not a great communicator but it was not his intent to make her feel that way. She gives him the date night rose.

During their date, we find that Leroy, Olu, Clayton, Nayte, Joe, Will, Chris S, Brandon, Casey, Romeo Clayton and Chris G will go on a group date and that Rick will get the 1-on-1 date.

The group date is a slumber party which includes Twister, cotton candy, snacks and even a spa session! Michelle notices that the guys are so in slumber zone, they’re not paying attention to her. When the Bella Twins show up, they let them know that they will do a Teddy Bear Takedown where they will have to fight in teams. She feels that this activity will continue to take attention away from her, but decides that she will focus on the activity. After being split into 2 teams, the winning team gets to have additional time with Michelle. Michelle pulls Kaitlyn aside and tells her that she doesn’t feel seen and that her poem from the previous week talked about how this was an issue with her. At the group date cocktail party, she lets the guys know her concerns and we see Olu have a visceral reaction and he’s upset that his actions missed the mark. Ultimately, Olu receives a group date rose.

Rick and Michelle go on their 1-on-1 date where they become one with nature. They connected even more and she evens calls him their little lettuce wrap. She also gives him a rose.

At the cocktail party, what could possibly go wrong? Apparently Chris S. He tells Michelle that Nayte felt that he “had it in the bag” when it came to getting a 1-on-1 date. Michelle lets everyone know that no one has it “in the bag.” Nayte pulls Chris S aside asking why he threw him under the boss and he puts him on notice that he sees him for what he is.

At the rose ceremony, Will, Romeo and Chris G were sent home.

Michelle gives roses to: Martin, Olu, Rick, Brandon, Leroy, Chris S, Joe, Rodney, Clayton, Casey and Nayte.

Michelle sent home: Will, Romeo and Chris G.

She informs the remaining men that they will be leaving Indian Wells/Palm Springs and making their way to Minnesota so that they can see where she is from and understand her background. We’ll see what’s in store for next week.

Each night during this season, we tweet about The Bachelorette and you can chat along with us (@AthleisureMag + with our Co-Founder/Creative + Style Director, Kimmie Smith @ShesKimmie) to see what’s taking place!

HOMETOWN NOTES

SEASON 18 | EPISODE 4

Last week, we felt that Martin, Nayte, Jamie and Peter would go to hometowns.

This week, we had another series of dramatic events! But thankfully, some of the distractions have been removed - Peter and Jamie. There still seems to be someone in the mix - we’re looking at you Chris S, that may still want to shake things up. But we’re staying with last week’s picks as those that we can see coming to hometowns. We think that Joe, Martin, Nayte and Olu have a great chance.
