PATTAYA, A BEACH CLOSE TO BANGKOK!

December 26, 2019

Pattaya is a beach that is a 2-hour drive from troubled Bangkok. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy a beautiful beach without having to take a plane, this is the place!

From Bangkok you can take a bus or a van (faster) towards Pattaya. You can use the same way from Pattaya to Bangkok. This trip costs about 90 baht! Both modes of transport leave from Mo Chit Bus Station, Bangkok's bus terminal.

Before I talk about Pattaya, I want to talk about one very important thing: travel insurance! Anyone who accompanies me knows that in international travel, I never stop using insurance because unforeseen events happen and it is always good to have a backup in any emergency that happens, whether in health or safety.

What to do in Pattaya

Pattaya is not a beach very well-liked by Thai people, as it is a region famous for prostitution and lady boy shows. But despite this fame, Pattaya also has other types of youth clubs, good beachside restaurants and other quieter options for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle. The city beach itself is very beautiful, full of coconut palms and little shops and is a place full of beach houses of the richest people in Bangkok. The large buildings and chic hotels are part of the landscape and somewhat resemble some American beaches, such as Miami's.

How to get around Pattaya?

Just like any Thai city, there are several modes of transportation: mototaxis, buses, vans, taxis and the famous Songthaew or Baht Bus (tailored pickup trucks). This last option is the cheapest and most efficient. You will spend around 30 baht per person, depending of course on the goodwill of the driver. As I said in the post: Transportation in Bangkok, what is the best way to get around?

Night in Pattaya

Along with the beaches, nightlife is one of the factors of greatest interest in the Thai city. Pattaya is full of bars, nightclubs and restaurants, but the county is internationally renowned for its strong sex tourism. Known as the Disneyland Adult, the city has in its DNA a strong inclination to prostitution, which can be seen through middle-aged foreigners who negotiate pleasure and company on the streets. In these cases, prostitution is not just for women, but for men and ladyboys as well (the transgender people who are so present in the country). Even if the government has been trying to change Pattaya's stereotype, this is still a determining factor for the location.

Much of where the fun happens (whether or not related to sex tourism) is Pattaya Walking Street, a mile-long street full of bars, breweries, nightclubs and restaurants. This is where the city buzzes, especially as night falls. The place is also open in the mornings, but many establishments are not yet open at this time. If the idea is to start drinking in the afternoon, just walk around the town. The concentration of bars is so great that you will have no difficulty "accomplishing the task".

Another local classic is the Tiffany`s Show, a cabaret-style attraction performed by ladyboys only. The show is quite traditional in the city (including, it has been playing for over 40 years!). It's a good choice for those who want to do something very characteristic with Pattaya's face!

The Thai city is also known for its Go-Go and Ping Pong Shows. In the first case, women and ladyboys dance on a stage wearing bikinis or costumes with an ID number. At each pass of time, the dancers change and customers can give their favorites with cash. Ping Pong Show is an attraction where women do seemingly impossible things with their vaginas like throwing ping pong balls, cutting bananas, blowing candles, throwing dice, etc.

Koh Larn, a paradise island

Koh Larn is an island which is about a 3-minute boat ride from Pattaya. To get there just go to the city pier, Bali Hai Pier. There you will find several agencies that make the tour, but if you prefer, you can walk to the boats and find out the departure times of each. So, you do the tour on your own. Koh Larn is an island that has 6 beaches. They are not next to each other, so you cannot do the walking route or drip drips. It is best to choose one and enjoy your day there.

The six beaches are:
Tawaen Beach
Samae beach
Tien beach
Nual beach
Tonglang Beach and
Tayaiy Beach.

All are very beautiful, but the first is LOT of Asians and has no space to put your things in the sand and sit, the only option is to pay for the tent and chair (200 baht). It's worth a stop over to enjoy the scenery, but I don't recommend staying at this beach, you will definitely have no peace.

The beach of choice was Tien. Super calm, incredible waters, few tourists and several restaurants. And from there you can walk to Samae, which is a bit crowded and has a beautiful view point.

Here's the tip!

To get around the island you have 3 options, almost the same as Pattaya: the famous scooters, which you can rent for 250 to 300 baht with gasoline included; motorcycle taxi or Songthaew, which is the most affordable.

Note that the last boat back to town is at 18h. You must be back at the pier no later than 5:30 pm.

Don't worry, the ticket can be bought on the boat as well as the one-way ticket.

This tour of Pattaya and Koh Larn Island can be done on a weekend! It beats back and forth from Bangkok full of hectic options but at the same time with tranquil and calm paradisiacal beaches. All this 2 hours from the big capital! So, what do you think? Interested? Enjoy your trip and get an amazing experience in Pattaya! Thank you for reading!

When it comes to staying in midtown, Hudson Yards is a great place to be in the middle of the action. The Crowne Plaza HY36 is near the Jacob K Javits Convention Center and Hudson Yards. This hotel has a 24-hour commons space that is great for business travel as well as being able to work. In addition, the workout center has a number of state of the art fitness machines that allow you to work out from the Peloton bikes and virtually guided exercise equipment such as the MIRROR (currently only at this location as well as EVEN Eugene and Seattle as a test pilot until the end of the year) which allows you to select an array of modalities from cardio, yoga, pilates etc.

In addition to a number of amenities offered at the hotel, guests can grab a meal at TGA, their original restaurant concept which unveiled their grafiti clad backyard beer garden which gives a nice ambient feel on the ground floor of the property.

Guest rooms have in-room dining, in-room coffee stations, and free wifi that can be enjoyed throughout the hotel whether in the room or in communal areas.

47TH HONOLULU MARATHON

December 9, 2019

On Dec 8th, 26,000 runners and walkers lined up on Ala Moana Boulevard for the 47th Honolulu Marathon, sponsored by Japan Airlines. Nearly 20,000 of those were there for the full 26.2mile event, and the rest for a shorter 10km race, both finishing in Kapiolani Park. This is the 5th largest marathon in the US and provides $150M in revenue for the local economy. Yesterday’s temperatures were warm and humid and this course is known to be difficult due to several challenging hills.

This race has unique elements that include: not having a time limit, allowing participants to run or walk at their own pace. Everyone is greeted at the finish line with a finishers medal and finishers shirt.

HOW TO SAVE MONEY ON A HONEYMOON IN COLOMBIA

December 5, 2019

A honeymoon can be the best travel experience for anyone as it entails a new beginning with a partner who you love and cherish above all else. It can be a trip to any part of the world, but the places that have a rich history can make your trip even more memorable. Such a destination is the romantic country of Colombia. It encompasses deserts, beautiful and exotic hotels, restaurants and paths telling a story about the past, including colorful streets to take the most remarkable pictures.

It’s a great thing that you’ve funds ready to have a good time but have you thought about how you can save money when you get there? Probably not. Don’t worry as we’ve compiled a few tips below for you to save money while you’re on a honeymoon in the gorgeous country of Colombia.

Go By a Budget

When you reach your destination, it can be all about resting on beaches or visiting historical places and dining at the best restaurants. However, if you sit down with your partner and plan a tiny budget that can have you spend under your limit, it’ll only be best for both of you. A honeymoon budget doesn’t have to be a strict one that has too many restrictions for you to have fun. You and your partner can jot down a roof on every future cost including food, shopping, activities and hotel expense. Make sure that these limits will be easy to follow without ruining the mood.

Try For Deals and Discounts

Provided that you’ve already booked a weekend stay at a hotel, which is cheaper than the crowded weekdays, you can do many more things to save during your trip. For starters, most accommodations provide special discounts for newly-wed couples, so be sure to announce that you’re one. You can try to do things that are both fun and money-saving for your honeymoon. You can visit beaches, travel and relish various scenic places, take a bus than pitching an expensive ride, go to restaurants that provide season’s deals or special offers to newly-weds.

It’s not compulsory that can only have a good time when you go on expensive ventures. You can search the internet or ask around to find exotic activities that are both cheap and adventurous. The country of Colombia has a lot in store for you, including its beautiful islands, San Andres and Rosario Islands. Not to mention the ancient and charming towns that are too picture-perfect, Cartagena and Barichara are one of the most romantic places in the world. These sites are not only mesmerizing, but they won’t have you laying out over expensive restaurants and are an excellent way to have fun without spending extra money.

Don’t Bring All Your Cash

If you want to save money, a good tactic is to leave some of your cash in your home country. Honeymoons are exciting ventures that even the slightest party event would have you spending loads on drinks, food and expensive fees with your significant other.  When you have less money in your hands, you will likely spend less. However. If you become short on cash you can always ask your family back home to send some you more. You can tell them how to send money to Colombia so it is easy for them and convenient for you to receive as a cash pickup or a direct deposit to your bank account.

ATHLEISURE LIST | PLAZA ATHÉNÉE NEW YORK: BAR SEINE

November 10, 2019

When the fall hits the city, you know there will be days where you take in sunny days that reflect vibrant leaf foliage as well as rainy days. It was on a rainy day this month when we enjoyed High Tea Service at Plaza Athénée New York at Bar Seine which has a warm aesthetic from plush chairs, wingtipped chairs and more. Our High Tea Service included a 3 course meal of: warm scones, croissants, and muffins, complete with clotted cream, honey, butter, and preserves. We also enjoyed an array of sandwiches including savory smoked salmon and ultra-fresh cucumber & lobster salad. The third course included a number of sweets from chocolate covered strawberries, dark and white chocolates and more!

In terms of the tea selection, there were 10 to choose from. To enhance this tea, you can also add a glass of champagne which is what one would expect at this five star hotel.

For those that are tea enthusiasts, Afternoon Tea refers to a selection of finger foods to enjoy with your tea; however, HIgh Tea is more substantial in terms of the offerings and a bit more filling. Plaza Athénée New York's service is available from 2-5pm and has a knowledgeable staff that can walk you through the tea service and answer any questions that you have regarding milk in your tea, putting cream on your scones and more.

6 OF THE BEST INTERNATIONAL HANDICAP VACATIONS TO TAKE IN 2019

October 4, 2019

Approximately 25.5 million Americans over the age of 5 have some kind of travel-limiting disability.

Are you part of this group? Do you have a loved one or family member who is?

Certain disabilities can make traveling more difficult. It's not impossible to find a vacation location that's more accessible and inclusive, though.

Read on to learn about some great handicap vacations you can take with your friends or family this year.

1. Disneyland and Disneyworld

When most people think of Disneyland and Disneyworld, they think of endless walking and standing in lines. The truth, though, is that all the Disney parks work hard to make the park accessible to those who need wheelchairs or other accommodations.

All you have to do is let a park official know what you need and they'll do their best to ensure you're taken care of.

2. New York City Tours

Some New York City tours are designed specifically for those who require wheelchairs to get around.

These tours take you through all of the greatest attractions in the Big Apple, and, while you're on them, you never have to worry about navigating your way through a location that isn't ideal for those with mobility limitations.

3. Hanauma Bay

You can even take a beach vacation when you're dealing with limited mobility or a disability.

Hanauma Bay in Honolulu, Hawaii makes it easy by offering beach-friendly wheelchairs. These chairs are free, too, so you don't have to worry about fitting one into your travel budget.

4. The National Ability Center

If you want to visit a location that has lots of activities available for people with disabilities, the National Ability Center in Park City, Utah is a great option to consider. Here, you'll find fun and engaging activities for people of all abilities, including tons of different sports and recreation programs.

5. Washington, D.C.

There are plenty of wheelchair-friendly and accessible attractions available in the nation's capital.

You or your loved one can participate in all kinds of tours here, including a free tour of the White House. You do need to secure tickets in advance, but they're free of charge.

6. Las Vegas

Las Vegas is another place that's surprisingly wheelchair-friendly. Almost all of the attractions are wheelchair-accessible, including the SlotZilla zip line on Fremont Street.

If you're not sure about whether a particular attraction will work for you or your loved one, just check out the brochure template ahead of time (most of them are available online for free).

Start Planning Your Handicap Vacations Today

As you can see, there are tons of great locations for handicap vacations that you might want to consider.

It doesn't matter if you're traveling alone, with your friends, or with your family. Either way, there are tons of options for everyone, regardless of their abilities.

Do you need more help planning your dream trip? Are you ready to book your stay?

If so, take advantage of our free online booking tool today. We'll help you get your trip schedules and plan all of your accommodations in no time.

AM AUG LEAVING HER MARK WITH BOBBI BROWN-1.jpg

LEAVING HER MARK WITH BOBBI BROWN

September 23, 2019

In the beauty industry, Bobbi Brown reigns as a woman that took her passion as a makeup artist to building a celebrity brand of cosmetics that would eventually be acquired by Estée Lauder. At the time, her appearances on TV shows illustrating her work as well as being a fixture in the backstages of NYFW paved the way for Celebrity Makeup Artists and other talents in the beauty industry. We took a moment with Bobbi to talk about her career, the moves she made in the industry and how she continues to be a trailblazer.

ATHLEISURE MAG: What was the moment when you realized that you wanted to work in the beauty industry?

BOBBI BROWN: I had just left my second college, and was feeling very confused because I didn’t really like school and I wasn’t happy where I had been. I was speaking with my mother and she said to me, “If it was your birthday and you could do anything in the world, what would you do?” and I told her “I’d go to Marshall Field’s and I’d play with makeup.” So my mom said to me “Then go to school to be a makeup artist.” I found Emerson College and they allowed me to create my own major, which was theatrical makeup, and I fell in love.

AM: You started as a makeup artist, what projects did you work on during that time prior to creating Bobbi Brown Cosmetics?

BB: After graduating college, I moved to NYC and went through the yellow pages calling every photographer, makeup artist, and hair stylist I could find, offering my assistance for free. I would travel wherever I was needed offering my services and learning as much as I could. Some of my favorite projects that I did during that time were my first Vogue cover shoot with Naomi Campbell (it was Naomi’s first Vogue cover as well,) working with designers like Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger, and doing makeup for Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones.

AM: What inspired you to create Bobbi Brown Cosmetics?

BB: After being on all of these sets, I found I could not do the makeup that was in style correctly. I didn’t want to cover and hide women’s features and there was no skin tone correct makeup available at the time. I would mix together what colors I could to try to create a formula that accentuated rather than disguised how the women looked. It was at that time that I met a chemist in an elevator and was telling her what I wanted to do, and she said, “I’ll make the colors for you.” That relationship started the creation of my original 10 lipstick shades.

AM: You were known for a natural aesthetic with an array of amazing pink shades of lipsticks, why was that look important to you and the brand?

BB: They weren’t pink shades as much as they were pink, brown, orange, red – those colors that naturally exist within a woman’s lip. All of them natural looking because I believe that makeup should make a woman look and feel her best. That was my intention when I created Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and still is today.

AM: How did you incorporate being a Beauty Expert on the Today Show as another portion of your brand as a MUA and a founder of a cosmetic line?

BB: At a public appearance I was at, I took a question from a woman in the audience. She later told me that she was the grandmother of Jeff Zucker, the Executive Producer of The Today Show at the time. It had been my dream to be on The Today Show, and when she introduced me to Jeff, he and I created monthly segments that allowed me to teach women the correct products to use and the right way to apply them, allowing each woman to essentially become her own makeup artist. It was an amazing time in my life and I truly believe it catapulted the business of the brand to where it is now.

AM: Estée Lauder acquired Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and you stayed on with the brand, what was the transition like for you and as many of our readers own their own brands, can you share the process you went through in terms of coming to the decision that this was right for your brand and yourself?

BB: In 1995, I met with Leonard Lauder and he quickly became one of the greatest mentors in my life. He promised me that the integrity of the brand and its purpose would never be lost with me at the helm. I remained in complete creative control, while being lucky enough to benefit from the resources that the Estée Lauder companies provided. I stayed on as Chief Creative Officer until 2016, where I made the tough decision to leave the company to start another.

Bobbi portrait shot - Morgane Lay .jpg

AM: Being a multifaceted person, we have enjoyed seeing you wear a number of hats such as being the Editor in Chief of Yahoo Beauty from 2014-2016, how have you been able to maintain your hat in various spaces while continuing to expand your platform in the beauty industry?

BB: I have an insatiable curiosity and love to learn and discover new things. Ultimately, I am a creative at heart and love to develop content across a multitude of platforms in order to share what I know. I make it a priority to hire really great people who can help me translate my vision across these platforms to the best of my ability.

AM: We loved when you partnered with Safilo to release a line of eyewear, what initiated this venture and do you foresee doing something like this again?

BB: I am a glasses person. I wear prescription glasses and sunglasses on a daily basis. I find that eyewear is an extension of makeup to a degree, in that the style and color you choose says a lot about yourself and what look you are trying to convey. It was a natural fit for me. I’d love to explore doing this again in the future.

AM: You have written 9 books on makeup and beauty, what was it like writing your first book and what is the process like in general from concept to release?

BB: My first book was very cathartic for me. It was taking all of the knowledge that I had learned and perfected over the years, and articulating that as best I could for everyone to read. Even though I have written 9 books, I still don’t know how to type. My process varies but consists of lots of handwritten notes in the back of cars, and swatches of color done on paper. I work very closely with my writers and my publisher from start to finish. I have been very fortunate to work with the best of the best in that regard.

AM: Will there be another book that we can expect to see from you?

BB: Never say never. I don’t know if it will be a traditional book or one that has a digital component to it. We’ll see what’s in store.

AM: We’re fans of JustBobbi.com as well as EVOLUTION_18 as we love your approach to beauty from the inside out. Why did you launch the site as well as the beauty brand and what can we expect to see from them as we continue throughout the remainder of the year?

BB: My lifelong philosophy has always been that beauty, and confidence, starts with what you put inside your body. The launch of my lifestyle inspired wellness line, EVOLUTION_18, is a natural extension of beauty from inside out. After spending 25+ years talking to women about their health and wellness challenges, I became a certified health coach and learned what it is women need to know in order to look and feel our best. EVOLUTION_18 is a collection of highly effective simple formulas that target a wide range of beauty concerns. They are made with clean, high quality ingredients that give you everything you need for a beauty boost from within. Justbobbi.com is a modern lifestyle platform for all things wellness, beauty, and everything in between. It’s a platform that aims to educate and inspire how you live your life through never-ending exploration and storytelling.

AM: With so many successes in the beauty world, you launched another amazing venture in a new vertical – hospitality. Tell us about The George and why did you want to do this?

BB: The day I left Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, my husband called me and asked if I wanted to be a part of a new project – The George Hotel. It is a historic property that he completely restored into a 32-room boutique hotel. I became the Creative Director of the hotel, and it was my mission to create a design-minded boutique hotel in the heart of Montclair where we live, that offered guests a unique and one of a kind experience.

AM: In addition to Athleisure Mag, we have a podcast network – Athleisure Studio which has 4 shows and we know that you have a podcast show, Long Story Short with Bobbi Brown – what can we expect on this show and who have been 3 of your favorite guests on this show?

BB: Long Story Short allows me to talk to some of the most accomplished people in the world who are true masters of their craft. The podcast offers a glimpse into their journeys, discussing both their highs and lows in order to get the essential takeaways of a life well lived. Everyone has a story and I love finding out what that story is. Three of my favorites are Mickey Drexler, my mentor, Elvis Duran, one of my best friends, and Jen Atkin.

AM: What philanthropic efforts are you involved in that you would like for us to know about?

BB: I am on the board of Reaching Out Montclair, in my hometown, which provides essential needs for underserved children and their families in our community.

AM: What are 3 beauty musts that you think that we should have with us when we travel?

BB: First, a good moisturizer – preferably one that contains an SPF. Protecting your skin from the sun is of the utmost importance. And when you’re traveling, especially on a plane, your skin can dry out easily, so make sure to keep skin moisturized in order to keep it looking hydrated and plump. Second, a probiotic beauty starts in your gut. Taking a probiotic daily will help with your digestion which in turn helps keep your microbiome balanced and your skin clear. Third, a cream blush – I like to travel with multipurpose products. A cream blush is perfect to give you a nice healthy glow and can be used on your lips as well.

AM: When it comes to your legacy, what do you want people to take away in terms of your impact on the beauty industry and just embracing life’s opportunities?

BB: Be a sponge, be kind, and work hard.

PLANNING THE ULTIMATE SUMMER HOLIDAY IN AUSTRALIA

September 20, 2019

The Australian tourism industry is one of the fastest-growing in the world, with an annual growth rate of 5.2 percent, according to Tourism Australia. The country has become one of the hottest holiday destinations, particularly during the Australian summer, which falls between December and February. The great weather is perfect for exploring the country's beautiful beaches, experiencing their culture, visiting national landmarks, and touring Sydney, Melbourne and other wonderful cities in Australia. Whether you're visiting Australia for a few days or relocating there for the summer, there are a few things you should take into consideration when prepping for your holiday.

Why Australia is the ultimate summer destination

With endless stretches of fantastic beaches, a variety of water sports and activities, marine life encounters, and fresh seafood, it won't take you long to understand why Australians love the water so much. One thing that draws visitors to Australia during the summer is the weather. The sunny days with hot temperatures, coupled with the cool sea breezes in the coastal regions, create the perfect conditions for a relaxing day on the beach, fun in the ocean, and exploring Australia's most iconic tourist attractions, such as the Sydney Opera House and Uluru.

Health and safety precautions for your Australian holiday

While Australia is a secure tourist destination where you can enjoy travel experiences safely throughout the year, you still need to take some precautions to ensure your stay is hassle-free. First of all, you need to be ready for the Australian summer sun. Even on cloudy days, the sun is very strong, and will burn your skin in minutes. You should apply a high-level sunscreen regularly throughout the day to protect your skin. You'll also need health insurance cover. If you fall sick or get injured during your holiday, your health insurance cover will pay for your medical costs. If you plan to bring any prescription medicine into Australia, make sure you bring the prescription or a letter from a doctor outlining your medical condition. If you will be hiking or bushwalking, you'll need to wear protective clothing to avoid snake or spider bites.

How to get the most out of your Australian summer holiday

Australia is a great summer destination, but not every part of it. If you visit the North, the weather will be wet, and there is a good chance of getting caught in a tropical storm. For the ideal Australian summer holiday, plan your trip in the southern parts of the country, where you will find hot, sunny days to explore the incredible experiences on offer. Bring lightweight clothing, such as t-shirts, shorts, swimwear and sunglasses, especially if you will be spending a lot of time outdoors. Remember to book your accommodation and excursions well in advance to avoid any disappointments.

Australia is an amazing country with lots to do and see, and many amazing people to meet and interact with. To enjoy your summer holiday in Australia, make sure you get everything right during the planning stage, and get ready to have an unforgettable experience.

6 LUXURY VILLAS IN THE BAHAMAS THAT CELEBRITIES LOVE

September 6, 2019

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve wanted to know what it was like to live like a celebrity; fancy clothes, fancy friends, fancy houses! It all seems so glamorous and fun! But as I got older, I realized there is a dark side to fame; no privacy, public secrets, fake friends.  Being famous doesn’t mean you get everything you want; it only means you get whatever money can buy.  I’ve always thought, there must be a happy medium; the best of both worlds.

I’ve finally been able to find it, and it was in the Bahamas the whole time! There’s an island in the Bahamas that gets visited regularly by celebrities like Tyra Banks, Jennifer Anniston, and Cameron Diaz and so many more.  The island, called Harbour Island, resides six different luxury villas that offer privacy, style, and pink sand beaches for days! More than worth the expense, below are 6 Bahamas luxury villas that celebrities love:

  1. King’s View

This gorgeous villa is more than you’ll ever need with 8 bedrooms, 9.5 bathrooms, a private pool, and its very own beach.  You can live like a star, feeling safe and secure, knowing no one will be able to disrupt your luscious vacation.  It holds up to 18 guests, has its own games room, barbeque, outdoor kitchen, and even an exercise room so you can keep up with that beautiful beach bod.   This is the perfect place for a couple’s retreat, family gathering, or just an amazing party with friends and loved ones!

  1. Frangipani

This villa is a little bit more intimate but just as beautiful.  Surrounded by beautiful gardens, private pools, and gorgeous views; you can’t get more romantic than this.  Each bedroom has private bathrooms and king-sized beds and of course, elegant and relaxing atmospheres.  This would be the perfect spot for a honeymoon or have a romantic getaway with your partner.  No doubt this is where you’d find celebrities sneaking off with their lovers for a private, romantic vacation.

  1. Banyan Tree

This amazing villa is a personal favorite of mine! With its rustic décor, private pool, and stone showers (the size of a full bedroom), it has a main house & guest house on site.  The main house offers three bedrooms, while the guest has one, and are connected by a gorgeous courthouse to make you feel connected.  These cozy get-aways feel like home but aren’t small. The landscaping, alone, will make you feel like royalty!

  1. Providence House

This two-bedroom (four guests) house is the classic throwback to the “Old Bahamas”. It has simple décor with an elegant feel.  Each bedroom has direct access to the private pool, so you don’t even need to leave your bedroom before getting that morning swim in.  Although it’s on the smaller side, this place offers a simpler and more modest feel for those that aren’t interested in the luxurious lifestyle.  You can feel right at home while enjoying all the benefits of the Bahama's dream!

  1. Rosalita Bahamas

It’s almost hard to describe the beauty of this villa without seeing them jaw-dropping pictures.  It is located on a very private strip of beach with pink sands and clear seas.  This stunning vacation spot offers 6 bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and an indoor and outdoor dining area.  The private pool is surrounded by lounge areas and even has its own bar set up.  You cannot go wrong living like a celebrity in this spot! No one will ever even know you’re there; cars are forbidden, and the privacy is strict.  Check this place out for the ultimate getaway and luxurious vacation.

  1. Sea Siren

Private beaches, pools, and cottages; this villa is everything you need and is worth checking out.  It ranges in the mid-price point of all the listed vacation spots but offers almost everything of the most expensive.  The privacy and elegance are top-notch and will allow for an intimate group gathering that feels like an upgraded home away from home.  It sits on a raised hill, offering incredible ocean views and a quick trip down the romantic stairway to jump into the ocean water.

6a.jpg

These luxury villas are incredible and provide just the right amount of privacy for you and your loved ones.  Did I mention that they all come with their own housekeeper and gardener? Because no one wants to clean while they’re living their celebrity fantasy. If you’re craving that “kick-back”, relaxed vibe, this is where you need to look.  You’ll be feeling like a king or queen with these private beaches, warm sun, and romantic atmospheres, all while doing whatever you want when you want; because that’s exactly what you’ll be doing at any one of these amazing Bahamas luxury villas.

HOW TO THROW OUT YOUR PHONE ON A SUMMER ROAD TRIP

August 26, 2019

When you go on your summer vacation, can you also take a vacation from your smartphone?

Can you give Facebook and Instagram a rest and enjoy conversing with the people around you rather than constantly scrolling, posting, and checking for comments from your legion of followers?

Critics of chronic users of smartphones and social media doubt people can go without them for long. In today’s digitally consumed world, taking a “digital detox” is difficult for many to do.

But Johnny Welsh, author of Paper Maps, No Apps: An Unplugged Travel Adventure, says vacation is the perfect time to disconnect  — and that it may change your perspective, and your life, if you do.

“With this addiction to our smartphones, this obsession to be connected with the world, we fail to connect with the people sitting right in front of us,” says Welsh, whose book chronicles a 16-day road trip in the western U.S. that he and his girlfriend, Kristy, took while detaching from smartphones and social media.

“The disconnect in face-to-face interactions keeps growing; I see it happening more as smartphones get ‘smarter.’ I imagine what would happen if aliens landed on earth and observed us. They might think a smartphone is something we need to live, like an external nervous system.”

On his road trip, Welsh endeavored to experience “how different life could be without the constant seduction of the flat screen” — while also examining his own social media habits with a sense of humor. Likewise, he thinks others who ditch their phones on a getaway can better live in the moment while not being digitally distracted.

“Be present,” Welsh says. “Turn off your device and really live. Vacations should be a real break from our technology-soaked lives.”

Welsh gives five tips on how to disconnect from your smartphone and enjoy vacation without it:

Use paper maps. Welsh says this is the first big step to looking at what’s around you rather than looking at your phone. “Using the old-school way, you won’t have to go to Google Maps for navigation and have an excuse to keep using your phone,” Welsh says. “Plus, using your brain, your imagination fires up like when you were a kid, looking at the back roads on an old map and wondering where they all lead.”

Delete tempting apps. “Addicted to Twitter or other sites? Delete the app from your phone before you leave on vacation,” Welsh says, “and don’t reinstall it until you get back.”

Buy a disposable camera or a real one. “Rather than take selfies on your phone, and constantly posting pictures and agonizing over the perfect hashtags, you can capture memories the old-fashioned way,” Welsh says. “And this way you actually enjoy your surroundings without having your face in a screen most of the day.”

Check hotels with digital-detox discounts. “Yes, they’re out there,” Welsh says. “Some places offer room discounts for giving up your phone upon check-in. A reawakening starts with forced human interaction. We did that for thousands of years before.”

Read. “Remember that?” Welsh asks. “Rather than being entranced on your phone, bring a good book. The act of reading a physical book quiets and calms us, incorporates the sense of touch and smell, and allows us to become part of the story in a way that no pop-up headline can.”

“We’re relying too much on instant technology,” Welsh says. “There can be life — a higher quality of life — without these devices.”

ATHLEISURE LIST | A ROOM AT THE BEACH

August 19, 2019

A Room at the Beach opened in 2018 in Bridgehampton, NY. Founded by Lucy Swift Weber and Charles Lemonides, two passionate entrepreneurs and travel-enthusiasts, were interested in creating a boutique hotel as an expression of their love for The Hamptons.

With only 10 rooms at the hotel, they were designed via the founder's inspired travels of their favorite places around the world, including Marrakesh, Harbour Island, Tulum, and Ireland. Unfussy, barefoot luxury is what defines this Hamptons destination.

The classic structure was rebuilt in a soft cedar exterior and up-to-date interiors. To create a sense of it being all about the outdoors they built an expansive, well defined deck in the front and put doors in each shower to the back. The star of the property is the parallen rows of redwoods that pull you out into the center of the property.

Each room is meticulously decorated with its own look and feel to bring to life the best of the locale's treasures.

When staying at A Room at the Beach, there are a number of in-room amenities that include: Frette linens and robes, full-sized Malin & Goetz toiletries, and personal Nespresso machines. Gourmet minibars are stocked with Casa Dragones tequila and treats from L&W Market, the latest offshoot of the Almond group, co-owned by Charles’s brother Eric.

The hotel is a short walk away from the charming hamlet of Bridgehampton and is just two and a half miles from some of the Hampton's most beautiful beaches. It is also a mile away from the popular Wolffer Estate Vineyard and three miles from Sag Harbor.

Guests are welcomed to enjoy the sauna, outdoor pool, and expansive garden. Serena & Lily bicycles are available for a quick excursion to the beach, the nearest park, or the best fishing spot. Beach passes are available to all guests and Weber grills are also available throughout the property. Yoga is additionally offered to guests every weekend.

There is always the ability to book the hotel for a private event as well.

PLASTIC SURGEON WARNS: "SUNBURN TATTOOS" COULD BE THE WORST VIRAL CHALLENGE EVER

July 28, 2019

Instagram is full of all kinds of viral challenges. Some of them are charitable such as “The Ice Bucket Challenge,” some are silly like the Kylie Jenner 'Lip Challenge,' others are fitness-oriented such as planking in obscure places. The sunburn tattoo challenge which has its own hashtag on Instagram is downright dangerous. Dr. Manish Shah is a board-certified Denver, Colorado plastic surgeon. As a father of three teenagers, he is all too aware of this alarming summer trend.

What it is: Young people are putting stencils or stickers on their skin, then they lay in the sun without sunscreen. After they burn and take the stencil off – what’s behind is an outline known as the “sunburn tattoo.”  Other sunbathers do the inverse and use a stencil to hide some skin from the sun while burning the surrounding area.

The dangers: Dr. Shah says, “At first glance, it may look like harmless fun in the sun. The bottom line is that sunburn tattoos are extremely dangerous and can put you at serious risk of skin cancer.” What makes this more dangerous than a ‘standard burn’ explains Dr. Shah is that for the stencil, or tattoo, to be visible, you would have to damage the surrounding tissue enough that it either tans heavily or burns. By intentionally keeping the area sunscreen-free will do harm to the DNA in the skin cells.  Dr. Shah warns that “sitting out in the sun without the appropriate protection could not only cause life-long damage, but could also double the risk of skin cancer.”

Is there a safe way to get a sunburn tattoo? Dr. Shah has three kids, and he would rather see them get an actual tattoo than use this method. “There is no safe way to get a sunburn tattoo. That is a major misconception. There is no such thing as a safe tan. Kids are doing a lot of these sunburn tattoos. When you have young skin like that, it is especially vulnerable to ultraviolet rays. You are more likely to see signs of aging.”

A Safe Way: You can order all kinds of temporary designs online, ask for an airbrush design from a tattoo shop, and if you want the tan tattoo look, just put a sticker on your arm before rubbing on self-tanner.

FROM COASTLINES TO CASTLES: BIKING GREAT BRITAIN

July 17, 2019

From Coastlines to Castles: Biking Great Britain

If you’re looking for an ideal place to explore on two wheels, the Great British countryside has everything you need.  With the rate of exchange firmly in your favor, it’s a good time to seize a bargain and explore miles of rugged coastlines, lush green valleys and charming lakes at your own pace.  Biking is always a great way to move freely among local people, experiencing gems that are off the tourist trail, so whether you want a wee dram of whisky in the Scottish Highlands, or a traditional Cornish afternoon tea with freshly baked scones, there’s a route for everyone.

A Royal welcome

Of course, England is home to world-famous Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, but given that some 15 million tourists a year are drawn to the Palace alone, you’ll need to set course away from the crowds and hit the open road.  Head South West, passing Glastonbury - scene of the iconic music festival - and across the top of Exmoor National Park for one of the most uninterrupted coastal runs in the country.  Sip tea in quaint Devonshire villages, continue down the coast through Cornwall for King Arthur’s Castle at Tintagel, surfers’ paradise in Newquay and celebrate your arrival at Lands End.  Although the terrain is all pretty smooth, this is around 200 miles of riding, so a comfortable bike designed for longer journeys would be wise choice.

Whisky and whale watching

For those who prefer a rugged, slightly colder landscape, Scotland has plenty of roguish charm.  Take the North Coast route; a 500 mile round trip from Inverness. The road over the Pass of the Cattle into Applecross is famed among UK bikers, but the NC500 also takes in the famous Glenmorangie distillery, a chance to spot the infamous Loch Ness monster (or, more likely, whales and dolphins in the sea), and plenty of castles and battle-fields along the way.

Wales

If you’re hoping for something a little quieter, Wales has stunning views and idyllic roads to enjoy on two wheels.  The A4069, also known as the Black Mountain Pass, is popular and can get busy over the summer, but is worth doing if you can. For natural beauty, it doesn’t get much better than the Brecon Beacons mountain range and on to the beautiful Devil's Bridge Falls.

While the dollar is strong against the British pound sterling, it’s the ideal time to hit the open road and explore all that the island of Britain has to offer.  Each area offers different types of stunning natural beauty, friendly locals and hearty food. If you’re still thirsty for more adventure, why not take your bike over on the ferry to Northern Ireland and keep on riding? A warm welcome awaits.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS WHEN OWNING A BOAT

July 17, 2019

Having a boat comes with many struggles, and for some, it can be another fulfilled fantasy on their list of fantasies. Although this can turn your life around, it also comes with many necessities. Having a boat gives you the chance to sail the lake with family members and friends during free weekends or holidays. You'll also get to become acquainted with others who fancy boating; luck is on your side if you get to select the right boat because it can prove to be an investment that can last for years.

New or Used Boat?

The first thing you'll want to think about is if you should purchase a new or second-hand boat. It is advisable to purchase a new boat if, you have been saving up for it or money isn't one of your many problems. If you’re not sure where to begin your boat search journey, this boat lovers’ favorite from marineservices.co.nz/haines-hunter might be a good place to start. The decision to purchase a new boat can come in handy, as it will give you a relaxed mind plus a back-up plan should your boat begin to malfunction or become faulty in the future. New boats usually come with a warranty.

What Model Do You Opt For?

Also, the boats which are considered in trend and current in terms model should be put as a priority. These models could include prowler, k-series, off-shore, enclosed, limited range, cruise, and many more. If you happen to be the type who love details, there are expert dealers available to help you through your choosing process, to ensure that you select the model that you desire, all you need to do is to speak to them. It would be best if you bear what you can afford in mind when choosing your dream boat as it’s not only the purchase costs that would prove a huge expense but also the upkeep of the boat, gas, moorage, dry docking, cleaning, and storage

To Sail or Motor?

This is left to your taste. However, it should be noted that motor-powered boats are more effortless to drive than the sailing boats which are propelled by the wind. Selecting a boat depends on what you plan to do with it. If you are a fisherman or you want to enjoy a slow cruise, a sailing boat should be the best option. However, if you have other plans, like skiing on the waters with your adventurous kids then the motorboat is preferable, to achieve this you'll have to get a motor engine installed internally or externally on your boat.

Setting a Budget

Boats are great investments that come with extra costs such as fuel, maintenance, storage, and insurance. When purchasing a boat put into consideration what can suit your budget at that moment and over the years.

Insurance is an important thing when it comes to selecting a boat, despite the means you plan to use in purchasing it, be it finance or cash. Finding an agent who has underwrites that deal mainly in marine boat insurance would be of great benefit to you. It is okay to do all the shopping yourself, but it is better if this is done with the aid of an agent versed in the procedure of acquiring a boat. Agents usually have dealings with particular insurance companies plus they are vital in the comparison of rates and insurance policies, to ensure you get the best out of your purchase.

Financing Option for Your Boat

In conclusion, how old your boat is, the price of purchase and how big or small it is, will act as a major factor in your coverage and premiums. If you decide to purchase a second-hand boat, you’ll need to run a test on it to ascertain the condition. There are insurance companies who give out discounts based on the type of boat and if you are purchasing a boat for the first time. The storage space for your boat should also be an important thing to consider when purchasing a boat. Some prefer pulling their boat on a trailer to give them the chance to taste diverse waterways, while others will prefer parking it at a home port marina.

Inspecting Prior Purchasing

Ensure to test drive your boat or do a sea trial. When doing this, you should not limit your thoughts— take a test drive with a considerate number of people on board, as a test drive you undertake with two people might prove too inefficient when it comes to holding a full load of family and friends. Also, that speed that appears to be in an average velocity during your test trial might prove otherwise later on.

It's okay to not be apt in the technical knowledge about the boat you want to purchase, that's why there are marine surveyors. You should seek the aid of an independent marine surveyor to help in all the technical knowledge and workings of your boat. This surveyor has a similarity to a home inspector; they are apt at discovering any inadequacies the boat might have, by carefully surveying it inside out, to ensure you get to know the exact condition of the boat before purchase.

During your survey of the boat, be careful to make sure that all lights, gauges, and electronics are working properly. You should power the engine at full throttle to ensure it's within the maximum rpm specified by the manufacturer; this can be gotten from the net or from brochures that show such. You will know that the prop installed is the wrong one when there is an under- or over-revving, a wrong installation can cause too much wear to the engine. Be sure to flip open lockers and hatches and also give the canvas a slightly hard pat.
