THE GENTLEMEN: A GUY RITCHIE SERIES

Netflix Originals

Netflix

We enjoy watching films or series from Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Sherlock Holmes franchise, The Gentlemen) as they're always action filled, have locations that draw you in, and the characters have interesting arcs that showcase the dualities that they navigate!

His latest series The Gentlemen follows this formula as we enter an an aristocratic world where a second born son inherits the family estate! This estate also comes with an enterprise that has no interest in leaving and that his brother, who feels that his birthright has been taken from him has his own issues that leaves him dealing with the underworld.

APPLES NEVER FALL

Peacock Original

Peacock

We had been waiting for Apples Never Fall which is a bestselling novel of the same name. If you are not familiar with Liane Moriarty's work, you need to read her novel Nine Perfect Strangers which is also a series on Hulu as well as Big Little Lies which is also an amazing series on HBO that we can't wait for an additional season as it appears to be in the works!

The books turned series are known for having incredible casts of notable actors. In this series, we get an intimate look at a family who is known for producing and facilitating elite tennis stars through their brand of excellence. They are adored by their community; however, their tennis excellence and social standing has cracks as we see how the family finds their place, we are privy tomurderous undertones, the importance of family, and what happens when we are forced to see our true selves when we are no longer playing the roles that we want others to see us as! This series is a perfect weekend binge whether it's all at one time or you opt to split it over a couple of days!

SHŌGUN: THE OFFICIAL PODCAST

FX

Spotify

If we have said it once, we'll continue to keep saying it! We love a companion podcast! We have been enjoying Shōgun which is set in Japan in 1600 where Lord Roshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) is fighting for his life while his enemies on the Council of Regents come together to ensure that he is no longer a threat to them.

But it is the arrival of a European ship that is found in a fishing village that upsets the balance of their plans which has war, passion, and power.

Shōgun The Official Podcast is hosted by Emily Yoshida who is also the show's staff writer. She talks with the creators, cast, and crew that bring the Sengoku Period to life in feudal Japan in a century-defining cival war. This podcast takes us behind that scenes as well as aligning it with historical references.

At the end of last year, we were excited for the New Year to see what all the buzz about Kaleidoscope was all about! A move focuses on a series of colors that allows you to choose in which order you watch it in or you can see what was randomly selected for you. You're able to see how a major heist came together and depending on where you start you will either be many years prior to the heist, starting the the heist itself or the aftermath!

This cast includes Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Mandalorian) the mastermind, Tati Gabrielle (The 100, Uncharted, You) and Hemky Madera (Brockmire, Weeds, Queen of the South) to name a few from this ensemble.

THE LAST OF US PODCAST

HBO Original

Spotify

Whether you are a fan of the video game or came to this show without prior knowledge, The Last Of Us has definitely become our Sunday show to watch! We learn how fungi can turn deadly in a new look at a dystopian society where humans navigate a world with those that are infected by a global pandemic.

Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Appeal, The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones, His Dark Materials, Becoming Elizabeth) navigate this world as he focuses on delivering her as man's last hope as she is immune to the virus that has taken people across the world, devastated cities and has created the need to merely survive as opposed to living the lives that they had hoped for!

We see this world through 2 lenses, how the world was prior to this occurrence and being able to find a new way to cope with the way that things are. We also see what it's like to grow up in a pandemic where one has no idea the way the world worked before mandates that have been put in place.

This podcast by the HBO team fills in the gaps for those of us that have not played the game, it also shares how the series differs from the game and we get first-hand knowledge from the creators as well as the man who voices the man character! We love a companion podcast!

PAUL T. GOLDMAN

Peacock Original

Peacock

We've all watched a true crime story that is being retold and played by actors, but Paul T. Goldman replays the events that took place with Paul playing himself and actors playing th other parts! In this retelling, we realize that although the swindle on some level took place, Paul's belief in what happened may not be as accurate as he thinks it is and we're left to wonder what really did happen - but it makes for a great binge on a lazy afternoon!

DR. DEATH

Peacock Original

Peacock

We enjoyed the first season of Wondery's Dr. Death podcast which talked about the destructive and murderous Dr. Christopher Duntsch who terrorized unsuspecting patients in Dallas, Texas with surgeries that left them more uncomfortbale then when they started, paralyzed and in some cases dead. This successful podcast has been turned into a series that's perfectly bingeable on Peacock.

In this series, we find out about how Duntch's past ultimately created an individual who would take his narcissistic behavior, risky surgeries and the ability to use his charm to advance in his career.

We also get insight into how he was ultimately taken down by the efforts of two doctors and a legal system that had to navigate how they approached doctors who work in such a negligent way as well as how they created checks and balances to better monitor the medical community as a means to advocate for patients rights.

For those who enjoyed the podcast, this series is a great way to learn more about portions of the story that were not covered.
