Although they launched in 1984, the origin of spa culture traces back to the healing properties of water. They embrace this tradition by offering a range of spa amenities designed to promote healing and wellness through water immersion. Their facilities boast an array of options, including showers, saunas, steam rooms, and jacuzzis, each meticulously crafted to enhance your journey to rejuvenation. Treatments focus on 3 distinct intentions: Rest, Awaken, and Heal and you can choose the desired treatment that focuses on these categories.

For those seeking Rest, the Tranquility Massage incorporates sound bowls and can be followed by a Nourishing Facial and Luxe Pedicure. These treatments include extended massages and essential elements to help you escape the stresses of everyday life.

For those looking to Awaken their bodies, we suggest their Regenerate Facial which has cutting-edge technology in anti-aging treatment to awaken collagen production and promote skin renewal. Their Vitality Massage offers a transdermal delivery of Vitamin B12.

To Heal, their Deep Tissue Massage targets muscle recovery and repair, while the Rescue Facial addresses breakouts and blemishes, delivering powerful results for pain relief, skin damage, and other concerns.

ATHLEISURE LIST | SAVTA

May 18, 2024

A longtime Los Angeles resident, Vincent Benoliel is bringing his West Coast flair in the kitchen to New York with Savta, his California-inspired restaurant located in Greenwich Village. It is his second project in NYC following the opening of Pasta Corner (shared in the SEP ISSUE #93 2023 of Athleisure List) in the summer of 2023 with friend French pop star Matt Pokora. Vincent owns another branch of Pasta Corner in LA, along with his bakery there, Michelina. The inspiration behind Savta (meaning grandmother in Hebrew) is Vincent’s grandmother Lisou Dahan, who ran two restaurants in the south of France and first taught Vincent about cooking.

The decor and ambiance at Savta is very Greenwich Village and cozy with exposed brick and inviting wood line the intimate space that features a welcoming outdoor back garden that is heated during cooler months. There is a long bar that leads to the dining room and garden filled with plants.

Savta is offering lunch from 12-5pm Wednesdays - Fridays. We suggest these 3 dishes for your next meal here: The sandwiches on pizza dough have been a smash hit for lunch at Savta. Don't miss the Parma Affair with grilled chicken, prosciutto, burrata, pesto and basil; Skirt Steak with chimichurri and a spinach salad with shaved parmesan cheese; and the Mushroom Toast with creme fraiche and thyme.

Dinner is from 5pm Wednesday through Sunday, with pizza and drinks served until late on Fridays (1am) and Saturdays (2am). The dinner menu is already packed with favorites like the Sauteed Corn with feta cheese, cilantro and a yogurt sauce; Spianata Pizza with piccante calabrese salumi, grilled peppers and fior di latte cheese; and the Dry-aged Ribeye with hand cut fries. Vincent also recommends trying a new dish, the Sea Bass with mint tzatziki and roasted pumpkin seeds.

Brunch is on the weekend from 11am-4pm. It's been a favorite on Bleecker Street since its opening weekend. We suggest the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon on a homemade croissant; the Japanese Eggplant with agrodolce, tahini, sumac and cherry tomatoes; and new to the menu is the Bleecker Street Hot Dog — two beef sausages on pizza dough bread served with onions, mustard, ketchup and sweet relish.

They offer wines from California, Italy and France, including prosecco on tap, plus beer. Some low ABV cocktails Vincent recommends include the Bleecker Mule (the house take on a Moscow Mule), Espresso Martini and Passion Margarita with passion fruit puree and a black-salt rim.

If you're swinging by for Happy Hour, it takes place from 5pm - 7pm Wednesday through Friday. You can enjoy a glass of Pinot Grigio or Malbec for $9, a glass of Prosecco for $11, and a Bleecker Mule for $14.

ATHLEISURE LIST | MUSIC FOR A WHILE

April 14, 2024

Located at the Selina Chelsea Hotel, Music For A While: Listening Bar & Lounge recently opened! Full Life Hospitality is behind the city's sought after venues which includes Virgo, Make Believe, Creatures at Selina Rooftop, and MFAW. They're looking to push the boundaries with their concepts for people to have incredible experiences.

This lounge is an escape for every music lover, a place where time stands still and memories are made. The venue not only offers music but stories, cultures, and connections.

When James Pfautz conceptualized the lighting design and consulted on the interior design, he wanted to compliment the concrete and wood tones as the negative space. This created an opportunity to highlight textured wood grains, industrial curved concrete, and warm-toned plush fabrics. The inspiration is the balance between blending analog movement with modern tech inputs.

The Vinyl Room redefines the way music is experienced. Billed as the venue's listening bar, featuring high-quality audio equipment set in an acoustically optimized environment, partons will experience high-fidelity sounds in an intimate setting. An ideal scene for audiophiles and casual listeners alike. The space pays homage to the art of listening, providing a meticulously crafted audio environment where every note, beat, and harmony is felt deeply.

The Lounge is ideal for those who like to pair movement and music and features the energy of live performances, DJ sets, and more. The Lounge invites guests to dance and mingle.

We suggest 3 cocktails to enjoy: HI-FI Collins - Mezcal, cocchi americano, lemon, muddled cucumbers; Martinez Martini - Angostura bitters, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur, gin, orange peer; and One Hit Wonder - Cocolopez, giffard abricot, plantation dark, diplomatico rum.

They are currently working on a light bites menu with Chef Neil Strauber. Guests can enjoy a special family-style dinner with the added benefit of guaranteed entry into our MFAW or a reserved table downstairs, along with a complimentary bottle of liquor.

Packages include: Tier 1: At $75 per person, this package offers dinner and drink pitchers, with guaranteed entry to our MFAW experience and Tier 2: For $125 per person, guests get dinner with bottle service, including drink pitchers at dinner and a bottle post-dinner, available for groups of 6+.

Guests can come on Fridays and Saturdays from 9pm-2am. 9-11pm they will offer a happy hour menu. $10 Martinis, $12 Cocktails, $6 Beers. They will have lineups featuring a dynamic range of genres including Afrobeats, House, Techno, and nostalgic 80s/Disco tunes.

ATHLEISURE LIST | YAO

March 16, 2024

YAO opened on Jan. 29th of 2024. Executive Chef-Owner, Kenny Leung, immersed himself in a government culinary program in Canton, China. After graduating, Chef Kenny flourished at Canton’s prestigious White Swan Hotel and Restaurant; it was the only restaurant to earn a Michelin Star. In 1988, he moved to NYC to join the culinary landscape. In 2015, he co-founded August Gatherings with Thomas Tang.

Thomas is an Owner-Operator, who grew up as the son of one of China’s top chefs who catered for regal events. As an adult, he moved to New York City. He met Chef Kenny while working together in the original location of August Gatherings. They decided to purchase the Canal Street location and have been partners since.

Every detail of YAO’s interior reflects the harmonious blend of Chef Kenny’s culinary art and meticulous eye for design.

YAO is a modern Cantonese cuisine located in the Financial District. Center to the YAO’s ethos are the crown jewels of Cantonese cuisine, abalone, sea cucumber, and fish maw.

The six-course tasting menu, named “Jia Yan”, a Chinese word loosely translating to “a celebratory family gathering” or “banquet begins with an amuse bouche followed by Shikoku Bamboo Shrimp Dumpling. The banquet continues with Gold Leaf wrapped Fried Abalone, sustainably sourced grade-6 wild abalone from South Africa that is deep-fried, sitting atop a house made sauce on a crispy wonton skin, wrapped in edible gold leaf. This creates several layers of texture, notable in Cantonese cuisine.

One of the main stars of the progression is the Alaskan King Crab Wensi Tofu Soup. The broth is a two-day production, made from the shell of the crab with ham and chicken, not boiled, then placed in a water bath. Grilled Angus Short Rib is tenderized with kiwi, drizzled tableside in a pear and oyster sauce. Longevity Noodles with Fish Maw is a jewel in Cantonese cuisine as it's rich in collagen. The final course of the progression is their seasonal signature dessert, a warm Deep Fried Mochi Sesame Ball filled with Red Bean Paste served on top of a homemade seasonal fuji apple sorbet.

The six-course tasting menu is available for both lunch and dinner, Monday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.

In addition, you can order from the a la carte menu as well. For appetizers, we suggest Brown Sugar Duck Thigh, Shumai Abalone and Pork as well as Fried Crab Meat with Shrimp dim sum. For entrees, we suggest Oven Roasted Black Angus Short Rib, Wensi Tofu Soup and Assorted Organic Mushrooms in Hot Stone Pot.

ATHLEISURE LIST | PASTA

February 15, 2024

Pasta is co-founded by the talented husband-wife duo Juan Manuel Umbert and Janice Buraschi in 2019 and embodies a love story interwoven with culinary passion. Their love for open kitchen concepts is inspired their need to create simple, fresh ingredients, and passion for the culinary arts. Juan Manuel and Janice’s dream of creating a pasta dining experience came to life first in a 25-seat eatery in Lima. Now, they are thrilled to bring this authentic pasta journey to Miami's vibrant food scene.

The restaurant is not Italian-Peruvian cuisine, but is focused on traditional pastas by Peruvian chefs. Guests will not find Peruvian Italian pasta, but they can expect to see the synergy between the two cuisines and a respect for it!

The chefs are passionate about pasta and it was also something that was missing in Lima when they opened their first location. It also is what blew their minds the first time they visited Italy. There is something so rewarding about making something that appears to be so simple yet so complex with your hands and making people happy with it.

They opened their restaurant in Italy with much success, but with the pandemic and the political crisis in Peru, they wanted to go abroad. Miami is an amazing city that has been increasing their restaurant openings. The chefs also have relatives and friends there as well.

The Miami location has an open kitchen and a rustic, modern, and minimalistic vibe. The menu is the same as what is in Lima with ingredients that are found in the US. They are also excited to have ingredients from Italy brought to Miami.

We suggest for appetizers: the housemade Stracciatella with their housemade sourdough bread, the razor clams with nduja salsa verde, and the bruschetta with housemade nduja, honey, and 24-month Parmigiano Reggiano.

For their signature dishes, we have our eye on: the pici cacio e pepe, pappardelle with 15-hour braised beef cheek ragù, and the mushroom agnolotti.

To conclude your meal, these desserts are a great way to enjoy something sweet: Pistachio tart, tiramisu (made with their housemade mascarpone) and their tarta de quesos.

Cocktails that are perfect to pair with your meal include: Milano Torino or a spritz as an aperitif, and great Italian wines will pair with everything.

Bijoux Lounge opened in November 2023 and is all about the cozy vibes when it comes to winding down your day for an epic night. KyKy Conille, nightlife owner of PM, Provocateur, Merkato, Lily Pond and has been known for his celebrity hotspots for over 20 year. After a hiatus, he is back with his Nolita hotspot with plans for more to follow.

This hotspot feels like your in a luxurious living room which sets the mood for a great night. It has lush velvet, red lighting, gold sconces, tables, and stained glass lamps. Each table has its own speaker systems so that you can turn it down if you're in deep conversation.

Tables that spend over a certain amount will receive free caviar in addition to bottle service. It's recommended that you pair the caviar with Belvedere Vodka or Clase Azul Ultra Anejo Tequila.

Whether it's a last minute holiday outing with friends and family or you simply want to have a date night or Girls Night Out, the cocktail sets the mood. We suggest that you have these in mind on your next visit: Bijoux Spritz -- Veuve Cliquot Yellow Label, St Germain, Belle de Brillet, Kind of a big Dill -- Jalapeno Infused Volcan Tequila, pineapple juice, lime juice, and Three Beans -- Belvedere Pure 10 Vodka, coffee liquor, and espresso.

As they have only been open for a little over a month, we know that they are still finalizing their food menu. Without a doubt, there are defintiely great bites to enjoy while you're having fun with your group. You'll find Wagyu Sliders and Lobster Rolls as great options for a decadent night.

As we're in the final days of the holiday season, they are currently building out their programming for DJs, residencies and musicians which will only enhance the enjoyment of your night!

ATHLEISURE LIST | CUCINA 8 ½

January 18, 2024

We love a classic NYC experience and you'll find it when you head to Midtown at Cucina 8 ½ opened in 2021 and was formerly the home of Brasserie 8 ½ where you will descend into the restaurant for your next meal. In changing the space over, it was redesigned by fashion designer Cesar Galindo who was inspired by the high fashion crowd of 5th Ave as well as the timeless elegance of Old New York with the sweeping staircase. The interiors combine jewel tones and nature hues that can be seen from open seating as well as tufted booths with curtains that can close for privacy.

The team is excited to have Chef Sam Hazen who has worked at a number of restaurants, and is most known as the Executive Chef for 11 years at TAO where he crafted its menu that highlights the combination of different Asian cuisines. He will revamp Cucina 8 ½’s menu items and add to its extensive offering.

For lunch with family and friends, we suggest 3 appetizers that you should try: Insalata Verde – Gem lettuce, aged ricotta, marcona almonds, Meatballs – whipped ricotta, tomato, basil, constini, and Tonno – tuna tartare, sicilian oil, spicy aioli, fett’unta.

For your entrees for this midday meal, we suggest: Sterling Caviar Omelette – lemon mascarpone, baby greens, caviar, Chicken Milanese – Tuscan potato, arugula, and Grilled Salmone – Olivada, charred trevisano.

For dinner, we suggest their Caesar Salad (prepared table-side), Polpo Alla Griglia – Grilled octopus, celery hearts, sicilian oregano, and Raviolo Al’ Uovo – Farm egg, ricotta, black truffle as options for appetizers.

For your main meal, you should have your eye on the Branzino – Shaved fennel salad, citrus mint, Prime Ribeye for 2 36 OZ – Puttanesca vinaigrette, grilled filone bread, and Chicken Parmesan (served tableside) – bianco di Napoli tomato, basil, fior di latte mozzarella.

To end your meal, think about sharing Orange Olive Oil Cake – Crema Chantilly, Seasonal Selection of Gelato & Sorbet, and Tiramisu – Espresso-soaked lady fingers, mascarpone cream.

These classic cocktails are perfect to pair with your meal whether it's a Negroni, Limoncello Spritz, or a Cosmopolitan.

If you're still thinking about your NYE plans, Cucina 8 ½ will be open for dinner on New Years Eve and will have specials for the night and live music. They will be closed on New Years day.

December 19, 2023

On Oct 25th of this year, 87 Ludlow opened with a menu that showcases Filipino-Spanish tapas by Chef/Owner Aris Tuazon and travels to Spain and his Filipino heritage.

On our next visit, 3 tapas that we should try on our next visit: Oyster Sisig is a unique take on the popular sizzling Filipino chopped pork sisig, instead made with the prized Filipino Aklan oysters that are coated in tempura batter, fried, chopped and served in a hot mini skillet with Japanese mayonnaise, scallions, onion and quail egg. Also Callos Beef Tripe with housemade chorizo de Cebu (longannisa sausage), and garbanzo beans, as well as Pulpo grilled octopus with pineapple chimichurri and romesco that’s a best seller and a dish that’s inspired by Spanish cuisine.

In terms of entrées, 3 that we should try include: a take on the Filipino Braised Pork, the Pork Belly Humba is made with tender pork belly (cooked 4 to 6 hours), which comes in an aromatic sauce accented by dry lily blossoms. The Sizzling Crispy Pata, which is deep-fried boneless pork hock with tamarind that’s served in a skillet - an ode to the popular Filipino crispy pork leg dish. And Bone Marrow Steak, served in a skillet – an ode to the popular Filipino crispy pork leg dish, and ribeye with fried jasmine rice cooked with Japanese soy sauce and wagyu beef tallow.

3 sides that we should have to accomany meal include the Longganisa Fried Rice with Housemade Longganisa Sausage and Toasted Focaccia Bread - it is great for dipping in olive oil and mopping up the sauces on other dishes.

Cocktails are always a great part of the meal and we should have these 3 cocktails in mind: The Espresso Martini, Yuzu Cava, and Ginger Soju.

Yuki Minakawa is a certified sake sommelier and former Beverage Director of the then 2 Michelin star Sushi Ginza Onodera in NYC. She has worked in some of the city’s top Japanese restaurants including Masa, EN Japanese Brasserie and Kajitsu, starting in front of house positions before becoming a sake sommelier and diving into the world of cocktails as well. She created sake and shochu cocktails for 87 Ludlow.

Diners enter the bar room first, walking right by the small vinyl collection and a long wooden bar leading to the back dining room. The dining room is parallel to the bar, separated by a wall from the bar. The space is intimate and cozy, filled with green plants and colorful paintings from New York artist Sean Maze. There is a large table in the back that’s great for groups, plus a DJ setup in the front for when the night goes late and weekends. Downstairs, there is a lounge with its own bar that’s available for private events.

ATHLEISURE LIST | PASTA CORNER

October 17, 2023

Pasta Corner is a modern and cozy eatery that's fun with details like pink neon signs, vintage black and white photos, pasta themed prints, mirrors, even a swing! Guests can see fresh pasta being made in the window before they enter. The front area has fresh pasta, pastries and other gourmet items offered to stay or to go. The dining area has exposed brick walls, comfy black banquettes and tabletops, and leads to the open kitchen counter.

The idea for Pasta Corner came during the pandemic when LA bakery owner Vincent Benoliel and his longtime friend, the French popstar Matt Pokora (married to Christina Milian) were sharing a house and cooking during the lockdown. They cooked a lot of pasta based on Vincent’s family recipes. His grandmother owned two restaurants including a Mediterranean one in Antibes in the south of France where Vincent worked and learned before coming to NY. Paris born, Vincent has French pastries in his blood. His LA bakery Michelina, an artisanal boulangerie and patisserie at The Original LA Farmers Market, is a favorite of Padma Lakshmi, who loves their croissants. They combined the two by opening Pasta Corner's first location in LA and now here in NY.

For breakfast, we suggest their signature Hazelnut Praline Croissant, and the Classic Butter Croissant - all made with butter from Normandy, France.

For lunch, we're getting appetizers that include the Cheese and Charcuterie Platter, Eggplant Parmigiana, and the Garlic Bread.

For pasta, Vincent's personal favorite is the bestselling (at every Pasta Corner location, including LA, Paris and NY) Lumache Pink Vodka, a snail-shaped pasta with vodka sauce, red pepper flakes, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and fresh parsley. Matt Pokora’s favorite is the Black Truffle Tagliatelle with truffle sauce and fresh truffles shaved on top, as well as the hearty Beef Ragu Pappardelle.

Complete your meal with their housemade desserts - the Tiramisu, New York Cheesecake, and gluten-free Chocolate Mousse Praline are not to be missed.

For Sunday brunch, there is a large buffet with selections of pastries, charcuterie and cheeses, lots of vegetables, deviled eggs, pasta salad, and for dessert tiramisu, bread pudding, and more. There is an egg station for hot egg dishes and guests can add truffles (for an additional cost) to them.

Pasta Corner is a hybrid restaurant and grocery, guests can purchase high quality fresh pastas by the pound made with Italian Caputo flour, pastries, antipasti, charcuterie, and house made pasta sauces, along with gourmet products like olive oils, balsamic vinegar, spices, chocolates, caviar and fresh truffles.

ATHLEISURE LIST | NOMAD GIRL

October 16, 2023

This summer, Nomad Girl was opened by hospitality veterans Alex Cesaria and Rich Simeone. Alex opened his first restaurant, Il Piccolo Ristoro in Chelsea in 2017. Rich Simeone has been in the restaurant industry for over 25 years with a portfolio of more than 30 casual and upscale restaurants in Florida, California, Colorado, and New York.

Chef Fernando Baez collaborated on the menu which is Milanese style cuisine that is modern Italian dishes that use authentic Italian ingredients. It's set in a modern and stylishly designed space. The ambulance has a casual, chic vibe where young professionals can enjoy an all-day café menu. Then, Nomad Girl transitions into an elegant full-dining restaurant.

For breakfast, we suggest their Good Morning Little Piggy, fried eggs, Prosciutto di Parma and toast; their French Toast, with maple syrup, and fruit, as well as Oh My Pancakes, which is made with fresh lemon zest.

Pair your breakfast with Dell'Aria Coffee, the first Italian Coffee Roaster in NYC, pulled through an Astoria Tempesta—the official espresso machine of the World Barista Championship.

For brunch, we suggest their Steak & Eggs, prime organic skirt steak, fried eggs and home fries. We also suggest a variety of egg dishes, paninis, pastas and salad. There is a boozy brunch option and other alternatives.

When it comes to lunch, start off with a salad to begin your meal. The Bufala, which comes with tomato, mozzarella di bufala and basil is great to share. For an entrée, they have a selection of Piadinas, a rustic Italian sandwich made on flatbread flown directly from Italy. The Romagnola Piadina, Prosciutto di Parma, stracchino-cheese, arugula and salsa Nomad is loved by many diners. Diners should order the Tiramisu as it is a light end to the meal.

For dinner, start your meal with the Wagyu Carpaccico, arugula salad, shaved parmesan and mustard sauce, which is perfect for sharing. For pasta lovers, the Trofie Pesto e Burrata, basil pesto and cherry tomato as well as the Tagliatelle Bolognese, fresh Tagliatelle with freshly made veal Bolognese sauce. We also suggest dishes like USDA Prime Organic-certified Skirt Steak, served with arugula salad and shaved Parmigiano and Sesame-Crusted Tuna served with a mixed green salad with onions, avocado and cherry tomatoes. Finish your meal with their Nutella Piadina.

Nomad Girl serve classics including the Negroni made with Gin, Sweet Vermouth and Campari, which will make you feel like you are dining in Milan, along with specialties such as El Paraiso, Mezcal, passionfruit syrup, triple sec, lime juice, and muddled jalapeno. A unique dessert cocktail on the menu is Express Yourself, Nutella and pistachio espresso martini, made using Dell’Aria espresso.

ATHLEISURE LIST | RUA THAI BAR

September 17, 2023

Rua Thai opened in July 2023 in Brooklyn. Thailand is known for its floating markets, where vendors offer food, handicrafts and souvenirs from traditional wooden boats afloat on khlongs (canals). Chef and co-owner Kornpon Theeraumpornkul grew up in the province of Ratchaburi in central Thailand, home to Damnoen Saduak, one of the largest and most famous floating markets in the country. Rua (rowboat in Thai) pays homage to the markets and his family, who sold food at the market.

Chef Kornpon's grandmother taught him most of the family recipes. He enjoyed modifying the recipes to create something new and to have his family try them for feedback. When he came to the US, he worked in the kitchen alongside many skillful chefs at Prem-On, one of the most famous Thai restaurants in New York at that time. Later he became the head chef at one of the most popular Thai restaurants in New York called Yum Yum. He worked for about 20 years in New York restaurant industry before opening Rua Thai.

Ingredients and spices that are indicative of Thai cuisine are Thai chili, white pepper, and lemongrass.

3 Appetizers we suggest to try are the Shrimp Donuts served stacked on a sugarcane stick, RUA Fresh Summer Rolls with beautiful edible flowers, and Crispy Calamari with their signature egg yolk seafood mayonnaise dipping sauce.

3 Entrees that we suggest are: Mama Tom Yum Grilled River Prawns served over sauteed tom yum flavored ramen noodles; Fish Curry Custard with butterfly pea rice, and Pla Tod Numpla crispy whole branzino with mango salad.

We added Kanom Jeen Rice Vermicelli a perfect rice for summer with curries and other dishes. Thai Fried Rice and Basil Fried Rice also go well with many dishes.

Cocktails are created by one of the co-owners Dolporn Thongneam and a bartender. We suggest trying Chom Bueng is made with whiskey with a touch of lemongrass and homemade honey syrup, it is smoked and served covered to be unveiled at the table - it brings the experience to the next level.

Pak Tho, a watermelon mojito, is a thirst-quenching cocktail that’s great for the summer, the watermelon makes it very refreshing.

Suan Pueng is a cocktail created to pair with Thai food, it has a gin base and a hint of basil which goes very well with gin.

To complete your meal and to end with something sweet, we suggest Mango Sticky Rice, Coconut Pudding, and Chocolate Lava Cake.

ATHLEISURE LIST | ICHIBANTEI

August 18, 2023

Ichibantei first opened in 2010 in a small East Village space. As the restaurant became known for its Japanese home cooked food, reggae and vinyl cover décor, it outgrew the space so when a large space became available just two blocks away, the owners jumped at the opportunity. Opened in June, the new, multi-level space with 90 seats and soaring ceilings. The dark space features black walls, gold accents, a long white marble-top bar and infinity mirrors.

Owners Ruth and Shin Araki opened the original location of Ichibantei on East 13th Street in 2010 serving classic Japanese dishes, as well as teishoku Japanese set meals just like their mothers made when they were growing up in Japan. Ruth, who learned to cook from her mother as a child in Kumamoto, makes almost everything from scratch just as she was taught.

The décor pays homage to their Japanese roots and Japanese pop culture, as well as the building’s history, combining sleek design and comfort food. In the past, it was home to a movie theater (as well as a music hall and before that a restaurant in the 1880s) so the owners have taken inspiration from Japanese film history with oversized posters from Yakuza and film noir classics adorning the main dining room. The more intimate mezzanine dining area, which overlooks the dining room, recalls the original restaurant with walls covered in vinyl record covers and wooden booths. The vibrant lip murals by Japanese artist Cazul are fun surprises that can be found in different bathrooms in the restaurant.

When eating here, the food is great for sharing and goes well with drinks, including Agenasu to start, which is a Japanese eggplant served in a savory dashi broth; Ichibantei Steak grass-fed Angus beef topped with garlic chips and accompanied by a housemade steak sauce; and the Chicken Nanban juicy, battered chicken marinated in a sake, ginger and garlic, served with a tangy sauce. All entrees are served with fluffy white rice, miso soup, and a salad in the traditional teishoku “set meal” style.

We recommend enjoying their Toki Highball, a classic Japanese whisky soda with Suntory Toki whisky, traditional Japanese spirit shochu (they have options that are distilled from sweet potato, rice and barley) served with fresh frozen fruit like mixed berries, pineapple or peach, as well as refreshing frozen sake cocktails they’re debuting for the summer with flavors like mango and peach.

This month, we're going to Ritz Carlton, The Bacara in Santa Barbara and their Senior Marketing Manager, Julia Solomon gave us the scoop on this Spanish Style resort that opened in 2000 on a 78-acre beachfront. It joined the Ritz Carlton portfolio in 2017 and is known as a destination that has hosted celebrity weddings as well as A-list guests with its spa, pools, and fine dining. The resort features 358 guest rooms and suites, two natural beaches, lush gardens, and a collection of amenities including a 42,000 square-foot spa and wellness center; three salt-water infinity pools; six culinary venues including the signature Angel Oak, housing the resort’s 12,000-bottle wine collection.

When visiting, you get Mediterranean vibes as it is nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains minutes from historic Santa Barbara. When it comes to enjoying a great meal on property, there are a number of options including Angel Oak, San Setto, The Bistro, 'O' Bar & Kitchen, Bacare Wine Tasting Room, Caffe Haskell's Pool Bar, and Haskell's Food Truck!

On Nov 11, 2023 at 5pm, their will host the Oceans Future Gala to celebrate Jean-Michel Cousteau's 78 Years of Diving & Discovery Gala and weekend festivities. Jean Michel Cousteau will mingle with guests to share the magic of whales, the quintessential ambassadors of the sea, and raise awareness of the threats that they face.

The benefits of the events will support the mission of Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society, a marine conservation organization based in Santa Barbara. A longtime partner of The Ritz-Carlton brand, Jean-Michel Cousteau is an explorer, diplomat, environmentalist, educator, author and film producer.

During that weekend, there will be a Welcome Reception with Jean-Michel Cousteau and Celebration of Whales Art Exhibit, A Morning with Jean-Michel Cousteau Eco Hike & Breakfast, the gala will premiere and present a unique original multimedia presentation with never before seen footage, and there is also a Whale Watching excursion with Jean-Michel Cousteau and the Ocean Futures Society Team.

For locals that are dining at this property, there is a 10% discount off all food and beverage when they're at the Resort. Also, The Ritz-Carlton Bacara Spa offers Spa Day passes to the local community, where locals can indulge in the spa amenities such as the steam room, sauna, and tranquility lounge.

ATHLEISURE LIST | HAKKASAN LAS VEGAS

July 22, 2023

When we're out in Las Vegas, we know that when it comes to have an epic, over the top night out, you have to head over to the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and do it up at Tao Group Hospitality's Hakkasan Nightclub! This premier venue is a world-class destination for top DJs and artists for an experience that you won't want to miss!

When the Denver Nuggets won their hard fought NBA Championship, we found them here for their victory celebration! NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter, Bruce Brown, Aaron Gordon, DeAndre Jordan, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the rest of the team started their night with dinner at Hakkasan enjoying signature dishes before they continued their night at the nightclub which was packed with a massive crowd who also joined in on the celebration!

The team kept the party going by sitting at their VIP tables that was on the stage. DJ Pauly D and Justin Credible were in the booth and their win was toasted with a 3-liter bottle of Perrier Jouet Brut Champagne.

Obviously, this was a great place to enjoy their massive win, but even when you're not rubbing elbows with your favorite athletes who are world champions, you can enjoy the nights that Hakkasan has to offer by organizing your night with dinner at their restaurant and then coming in to enjoy your favorite DJ who happens to be there for their set from a number of genres that you have on your playlist.

For those navigating how to get to the nightclub you walk from the front of the hotel through the casino and take a left toward Whiskey Down. Walk past it, The David Copperfield Theatre and TAP and Hakkasan will be on your left.

If you're on The Strip, Hakkasan is located near the entrance of the Las Vegas Strip. Once you walk into MGM Grand, take a right and you'll be at Hakkasan for an epic night ahead!

ATHLEISURE LIST | MIMI CHENG'S

May 14, 2023

Mimi Cheng's is founded by Hannah and Marian Cheng. The two sisters were inspired by the hundreds of homemade dumplings and jars of secret sauce their mother, Mimi, made for them throughout their lives, and in 2014, they took the leap into the hospitality industry to introduce their family recipes and culinary heritage to New York City and opened their first location. Since then, it has expanded to 3 locations on the Upper West Side, East Village and Brooklyn.

We suggest that when you swing by for dumplings, you should try their Signature Dumpling (organic chicken, farm zucchini, scallions, grated ginger), Pork & Chive Dumplings (pasture-raised heritage pork + garlicky chives) and any of their upcoming Limited Edition Brooklyn Series Dumplings. Mimi Cheng’s will be collaborating with other beloved iconic BK restaurants to create a special dumpling every month. Keep an eye on their social feed to see the next collaboration that they will do for other restaurants in the area! For April, they partnered with Hometown BBQ, which will be an interesting twist on these savory classics. If you visit their IG, you'll see that they mentioned a Pepper-Caramelized Beef Brisket Dumplings with Swiss cheese, housemade Russian dressing, and slaw which seems like something that we would want to try for sure!

3 main dishes that we should try are Spicy Dan Dan Noodles, 12-Hour Organic Chicken Bone Broth Noodle Soup and Chicken + Rice. When it comes to sides, you should have their Crushed Garlic Cucumber Salad, Scallion Pancakes and Scallion Ginger Rice.

Regardless of which location you go to, you'll find that all the menus are the same for each one.
